A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Introduction
For my pre-production Media Studies Foundation Portfolio Task I
developed research into how existing magazines present their
information through: front covers, content pages and double page
spreads. I analyzed some font styles, photo types and celebrity
styling that combine in order to create a successful magazine. I
have worked towards creating and developing my magazine in
order to appeal to the specific target audience.
5. WHY BAZAAR IS MY INSPIRATION
I like how in this picture
the model is doing kind
of a funny face with the
flower accessory, I think
the use of objects on
covers are interesting.
And the overall light
makeup and outfit suits
the cover.
Bazaar’s masthead is
basically the same
every time, which I
find pretty but maybe
sometimes the similar
font is overused a bit
much. Although the
color is a cool shade
and matches with
everything else.
I think that all of these
are pretty well sectioned
and fit the aesthetic of
the cover, it blends in
with all pretty well, the
colors and fonts used are
nice, especially the main
cover line, but then again
I think a different change
in font could be used
once in a while.
This layout is
presented quite nicely,
it’s the type that I
would want to
incorporate on my
front cover, not too
little and not too
much.
6. The whole idea of this
image is ok, but
personally the set,
makeup and outfit isn’t a
combination that I would
use on my own.
WHY Teen Vogue IS MY INSPIRATION
I actually like how cute it
looks, the soft colors fit
well with the
background of the
image, and the colors
used aren’t popping out
too much. As for the
fonts, same opinion,
they use the same every
time and I think it’s their
original style with the
skinny letters, and the
fat ones for “teen”.
All of them combined
with all the different
colors and fonts is a bit
much for me. But I do
understand that it’s for
“teens”, so it does have
to have a certain level of
color to attract them. I
would use less flashy
colors. On the other
hand, using the black for
the little text under the
cover lines, to neutralize,
was a smart choice.
The layout is done
pretty nicely, maybe a
bit too many stories at
a time for me but still
pretty neatly done.
8. The image used I think is used quite perfectly the way it’s
arranged and how it fits with the rest of the page, it has a
nice natural look to it, instead of a model posing directly in
front of the camera. And the background also makes it all
come together.
CONTENT PAGE INSPIRATION
The way everything is
nicely displayed on this
content page is very
well done and it seems
to be very clear of how
it’s organized.
The colors used seem
to coincide pretty well
with the picture and
the overall other
colors, everything
matches and fits well
together, so it’s
definitely a way that I
would use in my
content page.
The mast head of this
content page is simple
but well put because it
doesn’t create too much
attention
I like how they put a red
circle for a little extra
thing to advertise so that
it stands out.
9. CONTENT PAGE INSPIRATION
I find it really well put with
the title on the top being
big but also kind of
neutral so that it doesn’t
create that much
attention.
The photos used are
pretty, in my opinion,
they both have colors
that blend with the rest,
and at the same time
they’re just aesthetically
nice-looking pictures. For the layout and the
amount of words they put
for the description of
content, I think is a bit
much and too much/too
small on a page like this.
The letters, I reckon are
too small and don’t look
that amusing to the eye.
I think the red title on the
page could’ve been a bit
more eye-catching,
because I feel as though
they’re fading away with
the amount of little black
text.
10. EXISTING MAGAZINES THAT INSPIRE
ME
Break down of magazines' double page spreads I’m
inspired by
11. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD INSPIRATION
For an article presented in this particular
page, I find interesting how they layed it out,
since it’s not just straight. Although I think it
would’ve been best to make the font a tad
bigger
The use of the
Vogue’s logo on the
page, set up on the
side of the article, I
think is used well
and perhaps would
be something I
would incorporate.
The image is cool, it fits the theme of
this page and I think suits the style of
these kind of double page spread pages.
It’s well arranged.
The subtle twist
of the little text
is a nice touch
put on the page.
Having put a warm tone to the the
text so that it isn't so bland, just
black and white is, I think a nice
touch to the text.
Presenting it with mainly black, grey
and white is commonly used in Vogue
magazines, which is very elegant and
minimalistic so that they have their
own kind of aesthetic to their “look”.

Fashion

names
*Mode*alisation
Flawless
Gen F
NLM
Elite
This word I s a play on words in French where ‘globalisation’ is
globalization and ‘mode’ which is fashion is combined in one
word. And since French fashion is known worldwide and very
popular it’s the right choice to create a word out of it.
This is just a
simple
adjective that
could be used
to describe the
kind of theme
that this
magizine
would have,
simpla and
staight to the
point
An adjective to
describe the style
of this magazine,
basically
summarizing how
it would be
popular and how
also this word is
popular with the
generation it’s
focused on
This is also a play on words with how
instead of ‘gen z’ which is the actual
generation it’s intended to attract, it
has a ‘F’ to stand for ‘fashion’.
NLM is just simp[ly the 2 intitials of my
name ‘NL – Nina Lima’ and the ‘M’ for
‘Magazine’. As a way to describe that’s
a magazine made by me.
14. Magazine Tally Chart
I asked 20 teenage girls, between the ages of 14-19, to choose
which name they liked the most for a fashion magazine.. Here a
the results:
*Mode*alisation IIII II
Flawless III

NLM II
Elite IIII
16. Chosen Name for My Magazine
Modealisation
This magazine name seems to be the most popular voted amongst the
votes from my target audience. My personal favorite was actually this
one since I kind of created the word, and it basically sums up the
magazine theme of mine. And also how French is like a third language for
me.
Whereas the audience might have seen the word as a nice sophisticated
and fancy word, which would be fitting for their ideal fashion magazine.
Some just didn’t know what the whole word meant, but chose the other
options that they knew instantly what they meant.
This is why I think this word is the most suitable for my magazine cover,
where it pleased both a few people from my target audience and also for
myself.
18. Font Inspiration Teen vogue has a mixture of fonts to reinforce the
meaning of the title. ‘teen’ isn’t capitalized and less
sophisticated than ‘vogue’. With this this we can tell
that with popular brand of vogue they have a
section for teens, which makes the younger target
who are interested in vogue be part of the people
who can enjoy it too
With Elle we can tell that everything is pretty similar to the
Vogue mast head, which basically portrays more elegance
and sophistication with how the font is “skinny” but still in
caps. The use of black also helps with the aesthetic of it.
Compared to the other ones this one is all in
lower case and since it’s like that it makes it look
as though it’s more of a “cute” magazine.
The use of this kind of bold, capitalized and big
font is very attractive to readers and has the font
catch their attention on to it. This shade of pink is
also pretty vibrant and appealing to quite a few
people who are part of the target audience.
20. Potential Fonts
ALISATIO
N
‘mode’ALISATION
modeALISATION
modeALISATION
This is the combination of the fonts; Athelas
regular and Athelas Bold. I thought since it’s a
combination of 2 words each of them should have a different font according to their
meaning. With ‘mode’ having a dark grey tone with a black outline, just so that there’s
the vibe that it’s like high fashion, because of how black is a classy color. And as for the
‘ALISATION’, it’s just black and capitalized to demonstrate how is big and global.
Here there are the same fonts for the same
purpose but now in different colors. Now the
‘mode’ has the ‘’ just so there’s more attention to that word, and also now it’s black, so
more fancy. As for the ‘ALISATION’ it stays the same apart from the color, which is
changed to a dark purple-pink.
Now here I decided to change the font and
the difference in size of the 2 words, just to
accentuate ‘ALISATION’. And with that I also changed the ‘mode’ font to Didot, making it
look more elegant. And the ‘ALISATION’ to Big Calson because of the style that I found to
suit it best.
22. Chosen Masthead Font
I have chosen the combination of Didot (in italics) and Big Calson
as my masthead fonts, because I thought that it would fit best
the theme of my magazine. The way it looks elegant but also eye-
catching really stood out to me. And since there are kind of 2
words in the same title, then choosing 2 different styles of fonts
was a clever idea. Even tough they are different fonts they kind of
accentuate each other, they both look chique and minimalistic,
and they don’t look too opposite. I also just went with black for
“ALISATION”, just to keep it neutral and classy, and went with a
really dark tone of purple for “mode” because that color
personally I think conveys with the fashion world, somehow.

24. Front CoverMain Imageinspiration
Hair – Here the hair
looks like it’s gelled
or wet, which I find
very nice and
fashionable. It’s like
in the air, moving
which shows more
texture and action
which is a great
quality
Outfit – You can’t see
much but the overall
looks pretty and fancy
so it fits the whole
vibe.
Color – From this
we tell that there
isn’t much color,
and for what I
want to present on
my cover, it’s not
something I want
to show, on my
cover colors are
definitely going to
be shown, and a
wide variety of
them
Pose – The she
poses is really
something I like,
most abstact vogue
poses are really
inspiring to me.
Subject – the Russian
model Anna
Selezneva is the
subject of this
picture. With that
adding a fashion
model makes the
audience focus more
on what is written
then who she is and
all that
25. Front Cover Main Image inspiration
Pose – the pose used
here is simple, but
chique which works
with the other things
presented, but it
wouldn’t be the
simple type of pose
that I would want to
use.
Outfit – her outfit is very light and pretty, it
fits the concept of the cover and looks
elegant on her.
Theme – Here we
can tell that theme
was that type of
flower they used
which is presented
quite nicely. Overall
everything is set up
quite well.
Color – The colors
are very
predominant and
that’s something
that I would like to
incorporate on my
cover. Having many
pops of color really
matches everything
nicely. And with all
of them being tones
of each other.
Layout -
Make-up – Very well
done eye shadow,
also an inspo of
what my ideal model
would have on the
cover. The colors
and way it’s done
goes with the
concept overall
