1. As it says “STACS SIXTH
FORM” this suggest that
not only is it a school
magazine but its main
audience is the sixth
form students as this
magazine is mostly
targeted at them hence
why one the features
say “the new common
room “which also
indicates that it’s a sixth
form magazine.
The laptop also shows that it is
a sixth form student because it
shows independency which
most sixth forms students gain
when attending sixth form.
Subtle colours are
prominent in the
contents page; which is
pale grey, black and
white.
Even though it’s a school magazine a student in a uniform has not
been used, so perhaps this is an A- level student which again targets
the type of audience this magazine wants which is mostly a level
student. Also since the girl is leaning on the side with a casual wear
this shows what type of audience it’s trying to attract which is again A-
level students because if you compare this to a lower school magazine
you’re most likely to see a student which looks smart and ready for
learning whereas in this contents page there is a student looking more
chilled and relaxed which suggest its for a more older crowd which
would be the year twelve’s, thirteen’s and fourteens because some
sixth forms allow sixth form students to wear their own clothes and
there is less pressure to look neat and tidy which is why this student
would be more appropriate for this magazine.
Also the calm neutral
colours actually have an
effect on the school logo
as its bright red; it really
stands out and becomes
bold as the theme colour
is black, grey and white
which are silent colours
whilst the logo is a very
loud red this may
suggest why certain
colours have been used.
There are also the
features which
include what will
be inside the
magazine along
with all the issues.
The School logo indicates
that its target audience is
people within the school
and it shows that it’s a
school magazine as this
must be the symbol that
represents the school.
2. Images of students which
shows that it is targeted to
students within the school
along with sixth form
students as you can see that
is a sixth form pupil wearing
their own clothes.
Also, since there is an article
about GCSE and A level
results this may shows that
this school magazine is
targeted to everyone within
that school and is not trying
to aim at one specific year
group.
Same style of font
used with the text
when showing all the
featured articles.
Features of what
will be inside the
magazine.
Subtle, simple and
bold heading.
Continuous, grey
and white colour
scheme.
Pictures of what the
article will be about
and consist of.
A message from
the head teacher
also shows that
it’s a school
magazine.
3. Date and issue of
magazine
The main theme colour for
the magazine is pink and
white.
Features of what will
be in the magazine
with the contents page
number, suggesting
that this article will be
an interesting one to
read. It’s also in purple
so it stands out from
the main theme colour
which is pink and
white.
The student is smiling
which suggest
happiness and success
I can infer this from
the badges on her
blazer which indicates
success and happiness.
The uniform is neat and
tidy which represents a
well-kept student.Putting numbers, stats
and facts on the magazine
cover makes it more
intriguing to the reader
This school magazine also uses
emotive language as it says “your
child” it makes it more appealing
to you as a parent so you’ll feel
more engaged in the article and
the magazine as it’s related to
your child.
The bold text which says
“Exam Choices” stands out
a lot as it is the main topic
for the school and
students.
It also says parent
meaning that this
magazine is also
meant to target
the students’
parents.
The masthead is bold with
the colour pink which is all
in capital letters which
makes it more appealing
as it would catch your eye.
School slogan
4. This shows the date
and issue of the
magazine.
Quotations of what
people said makes it
more interesting to
read as it makes you
see what people within
the school have to say
and it makes it more
realistic.
Emotive language
is used to make
the parent feel as
if the magazine is
related to their
child.
Also the magazine
is related to the
parents and
students
The masthead is white and bold which
stands out and over powers the other
colours of the magazine.
This shows the School
website and price.
The magazine is also trying to
attract members of the school
by putting “our guide coping
with teenage stress” however
the part which says “our guide
to coping with” seems formal as
If its advice from the teachers
but then there is a bright yellow
handwriting font which states
“teenage stress” which makes it
seem like because it’s to do
with teenagers, it needs to
appeal to them so that they
would be interested in reading
it.
The school girl is dressed in her uniform which
isn’t that tidy however it does give a sense of
realism as the majority of students may not
dress as tidy as others so it appeals to most
students .
5. The picture of the magazine is a school girl doing
work independently in the library, the fact that
she is doing the work independently, shows me
as a student reader, that the school may
promote independent working as the magazine is
called “independent school” also the background
as stated before is a library which suggest
hardworking pupils studying, also I can connote
that she is smiling which then suggests that she is
enjoying her time studying as she is making “the
right choice" which is stated underneath the
masthead.
Features as well as page numbers
to show readers that there are
more interesting additions inside
the magazine.
Date of issue of the magazine
which tells the audience when the
magazine was issued.
The sub heading of the
magazine matches the
masthead as the colour code is
pink and white which are bright
colours that stand out especially
as a school magazine, bold
colours are vital in order to
catch their target audience
which are the students.
Also the sub heading can grab
the reader as the story line may
look intriguing.
Also when adding facts,
statistics or prizes, this can
make a reader more interested
to see what's to offer in the
magazine, for example this
magazine has used said that the
readers can win a prize holiday
its also in all pink which shows
that it’s the most important
subheading which can buy the
readers attention it could also
attract the readers as a holiday
would seem like the ideal place
to go especially as parents read
this magazine too, a break may
be beneficial for the parents.
Also the students dress code is her
school uniform which shows that
she is ready for learning also she
has direct gaze which shows a
confident personality.
