Three witches tell Macbeth he will become Thane of Cawdor and then King of Scotland. When he is made Thane of Cawdor, he and his wife Lady Macbeth plot to kill King Duncan, who is staying at their castle. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to murder Duncan, which he does. Macbeth then becomes King, but grows paranoid and has Banquo and his family killed. Macbeth continues to commit murders to hold onto his power but is eventually killed in battle by the forces of Malcolm, who becomes the new King.

10. Malcolm and Donalbain
escape to England and
Ireland

11. Macbeth is crowned
King of Scotland

12. Macbeth does not trust
Banquo.
He has him murdered.

13. Macbeth has a feast.
Banquo’s ghost appears to
him.

14. Macbeth revisits the
witches. He sees strange
apparitions.

15. Macduff’s wife and children
are killed by order of
Macbeth.

16. Malcolm, Macduff and
others plot to kill Macbeth.

17. Lady Macbeth becomes mad.
She dies.

18. The castle is attacked and
Macbeth is killed.

19. Malcolm is proclaimed king.
