1. Macbeth Fair Is Foul And Foul Is Fair Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme "Macbeth: Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair" can be both challenging
and rewarding. This iconic phrase from Shakespeare's Macbeth encapsulates a central theme in
the play, exploring the ambiguity between good and evil, appearances and reality. Delving into
this intricate topic requires a deep understanding of the play, its characters, and the broader
literary context.
To start, one must dissect the meaning behind the paradoxical statement "Fair is foul and foul is
fair" and explore its manifestations throughout the play. Analyzing the characters, such as
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, and their moral transformations adds another layer of complexity.
The essay should navigate the intricate web of ambition, power, and morality that shapes the
characters' actions and the overall narrative.
Moreover, addressing the play's historical and cultural context, as well as its influence on
literature and drama, requires meticulous research. Balancing the analysis of specific scenes,
character motivations, and overarching themes demands a keen eye for detail and a
comprehensive grasp of Shakespearean language and style.
Crafting a well-structured essay involves weaving together these elements seamlessly, presenting
a coherent and insightful interpretation of the theme. Effective communication of ideas, backed
by textual evidence and critical analysis, is essential. The challenge lies in articulating a unique
perspective while acknowledging existing scholarly discourse on Macbeth.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Macbeth: Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair" demands intellectual
rigor, creativity, and a profound appreciation for the complexities of Shakespearean literature.
The journey of exploration and interpretation is intellectually stimulating, but it requires
dedication and a commitment to unraveling the nuances embedded in the text.

To each story the narrator plays a very important and necessary role, they are the
ones who begin telling a story and help to develop the plot, guiding us towards the
end. Narrators are set to guide but sometimes we find out that unconsciously we are
getting deceived by them; they are what we know as unreliable narrators.
Unreliable narrators can distort our own perspective about the story or characters,
they usually make questions or make comments that denote the narrator s
acknowledge of what is happening and leave them floating with no answer, just like
it happened in Philomel Cottage when the narrator says It was possible that Gerald ...

The author uses kids because they tend to be naГЇve and genuine about their feelings

excuse that he had a grasshopper. Fujio liked her but at the end of the story we
discovered that the grasshopper is actually a bell cricket and she loses interest in
the bug, that s why we talk about disappointment as a theme because it feels like
Fujio was expecting some other reaction from Kiyoko. Kawabata is trying to make
an analogy between the fact that sometimes you think you have found something
very special but later on you realize it was not what people thought it would be, and
the fact that he uses kids is because he wants to leave the statement that not even if
you are pure of intention sometimes you re deceived by superficiality and by not

Loneliness is not so obvious as in The pomegranate but in this story there exists in

3. Tim Burton Film Techniques Essay
Tim Burton s films are strange and wonderful with his medium shots, eye level
angles, and front or back lighting. His films have great depth of meaning and he
always seems to get the audience s attention with his techniques. In some of his
movies like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice he used many different
techniques to demonstrate sinister moods and tones. The tones of his movies are
usually always dark because of his childhood experiences and past. Tim Burton
creates something so odd and turns it into a work of art. The purpose of medium
shots is for capturing the medium distance between the camera and the objects or
characters being filmed, it s used to express the main story of what s occurring. For
example, in his movie Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton filmed a medium shot of
when Edward watched the water bed slush around before he put a hole in the
mattress. The medium shot makes the scene funny and odd to watch; considering the
scene is Edward moving along, watching the bed, then him poking a hole on accident
in the water mattress, plus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The technique allows the audience to become apart of the movie, in a way the angle
gives the audience the characters eyes, letting the audience see what the character
might be seeing from their view point. For example, in Charlie in The Chocolate
Factory , Tim Burton caught the audience s attention when some of the characters
were just beginning to meet Willy Wonka, before they were invited inside his
factory. The scene was shot from the character s eye level looking up at Willy Wonka
and listening to him speak about welcoming them to his factory, although he was
reading off of note cards and just showed them singing, dancing, mechanical puppets
that quit working due to catching on fire. The scene was in particularly odd and

Cecilia Nguyen Evaluate two models of one cognitive process This essay will be
discussing one particular cognitive process: the memory by evaluating two models,
which are the Multi store model introduced by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and
the Working memory model by Baddeley and Hitch in 1974. The first model is the
multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and is a
typical example of the information processing approach. According to this model,
memory consists of three types of memory stores: sensory stores, short term store and
long term store. Sensory stores consist of the eyes, nose, fingers, tongue, etc and the
corresponding area of the brain. The sensory stores... Show more content on

The visuo spatial sketchpad when planned a spatial task and it saves memory
temporarily. The episodic buffer is the general store, it integrates info from the
central executive, the phonological loop and the visuo spatial sketchpad and forms
long term store. Research evidence for the working model of memory varies. Case
studies of brain damaged patients support this model a lot. The case study of KF a
brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but some aspects of
his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of
memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long
term store. In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a
research on making participants do two tasks using the same or different components.
Task one occupied the central executive, task two either involved the articulatory
loop or both the central executive and the articulatory loop. Speed on task one was
the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra task. This shows that doing
two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also suggested that
when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though
the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some
weaknesses. For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more
research. Also there were problems with
5. Destiny And Self-Determination In Eva Luna, By Isabel
Allende
Question One
Isabel Allende explores the essential theme of destiny and self determination. In doing
so she addresses many additional issues.
Identify three specific themes that Allende raises in Eva Luna. Give specific
examples from the text of how each of these themes are raised by characters and/or
events in the novel. In other words, how does Allende present these themes? What is
the position she takes and the message she intends to communicate?
The themes of destiny and self determination have great company in the Isabel
Allende s novel, Eva Luna. Additional themes of gender imbalance, fortitude, and
power vs. poverty exist. Specific ways in which
Allende raises the theme of gender imbalance or gender inequality, is through Eva
herself. By definition, gender inequality refers to the idea and situation that
women and men are not equal. Eva Luna, narrated from Eva s first person point of
view, goes into vivid detail about her mother s beginnings, and her fate of being
born female, in which case the missionaries who found her just covered her shame
(Allende 2) with a diaper. This is the very first instance of gender inequality. As
Consuelo grew up, the only skills she was taught was how to work as a
housekeeper. She was not even allowed to attend a Carlow Gardel movie until a
more progressive government promised to bring the nation into the 20th century.
After Eva was born, the same way of life continued for her, oppressed for being
female. She was taught

seen as more desirable and are more praised in society than those who do not fit that

He describes it as if it restricts us from trying new cultures and partaking in

culture simply because they have cultural ties to it as that fails to, as well as
understand the struggles that people of color face in America by being undermined
by white people, he fails to address the idea that people who adopt parts of a culture
after finding out that they have that heritage are only trying to figure out themselves,
while cultural appropriation is defined as one adopting aspects of a culture and only
using it as fashion without trying to learn its significance.
Cultural appropriation allows for the identity of the culture to be changed and
diminished, as the constant commodification and misuse of cultural artifacts aids in
changing how the culture is perceived. Through her critique of Sita Sings the Blues,
a film retelling of the ancient Hindu epic poem of Ramayana, Lodhia argues that
when a part of a culture goes through a commodification process, the way that others
view that aspect become skewed, shifting from the original meaning and purpose. As
the film was written and directed by a white woman, as well as the fact that the film
was an exotified version of the story, the film experienced severe backlash from
Hindu Americans. The film itself excessively exotifies and sexualizes the protagonist

Dreams of super beings for the protections and guidance, critics against
unbelievers, or others that against his law. All this drams are believed o be sent by
a high power. Dream interpretation started from Egypt it spread all over the east
to the time of Mohammed. It was believed that dreams are a portion of prophecy (
p132). Mohamed who was a Muslim leader communicated most of the religious
things through his dream. This has contributed a great deal in taking for dream
interpretation the earlier announcement of Muhammad s mission, and the revelation
of the first portion of the Koran which was made known to him were in a dream

dream interpretation in earlier years is used as a source of religion so from this we
can conclude that dreams were important part of the people. During the times

8. Poverty And Its Effect On Poverty
Poverty is an inarguable inevitability that varies in definition and severity from
country to country. Poverty can be caused by many factors economic instability, lack
of education, a natural disaster, or overpopulation. These factors become a normal
situation and then a culture of poverty forms and is passed down from generation to
generation making it nearly impossible for the cycle to end. A culture of poverty is
especially evident in India. It is estimated that twenty one percent of the Indian
population survives on one dollar and ninety cents a day. When assigning a
statistic to the poverty in India, the percentage of people living in poverty is
different with each source, varying from twenty all the way to fifty six percent of
the 1.25 billion people living in India. Women, children and members of the lowest
class (Dalits) may or may not be counted in India s poverty statistic so to assign an
accurate value to the percentage of the poor in India is almost impossible. India is
considered to have the economic potential to be a leading power but this strength
cannot make up for the economic disparities and a huge gap between the rich and
poor. Overpopulation and the government s inability to utilize programs to enable
impoverished individuals to begin to provide for themselves and contribute to the
nation s economy prevents India from fully developing as a country.
Overpopulation could be considered India s fundamental challenge to becoming a
fully developed nation.

When you think of dog attacks what is the first breed you think about? If I were to

It is true that the pit bullis bred to be a very powerful dog, so that makes it easy for the
media to target this dog to add attention to the pit bull. Pit bulls are just a type of

needed to do. Even though they are seen as the only dog that attacks people and

dogs you could have for a pet. The American Temperament Testing Association

10. Analysis Of The Poem Darkness At Noon
Since the beginning of human history, many humans have aspired to create the
perfect society, a utopian society. Sir Thomas More coined the word utopia while he
was describing the theoretical characteristics of Atlantis. However, many dystopias
have emerged from utopias. Oppression is another predicament which exists in the
world. Humans have oppressed each other for centuries and it continues to happen to
this day. Xenophobia is another problem which exists in the world. Xenophobia is
the hate towards people from other countries, or foreigners. Many works have been
influenced by oppression, xenophobia and dystopias around the world. In District 9
and Darkness at Noon, oppression, dystopia, and xenophobia are key themes which
appear across these works to show the imperfections of human governing.
Oppression is a complication the human race is not proud of. Nicholas Salmanovitch
Rubashov is the main character in Darkness at Noon. He is an old Bolshevik or
communist, who works for the Communist Party. In the book, the Communist Party
oppresses its members for not complying with its orders. In the book, Rubashov is on
a foreign assignment in Belgium. There, he meets a German communist named Little
Loewy whose party distribution runs an oil dock which gives oil to Italy. At that time,
Rubashov s country (the country is not named, though thought to be the USSR)
imposed an oil embargo on Italy. Rubashov goes there to explain the situation, but the
workers are outraged. They
11. Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Life
Introduction to Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Spaceflight
Getting into space isn t easy. It required the world s largest superpowers and billions
of dollars of research and development to create the first rockets capable of carrying
human beings into space. Approximately 60 years later, we find ourselves still
struggling to reach LEO (low Earth Orbit) without breaking the bank. With the
retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, the United States has lost its only dedicated
vehicle capable sending astronauts and payloads into orbit. Relying on the Russian
Soyuz vehicle for our missions, the price of sending people into space has
continued to be astronomical. America needs a new line of cheaper rockets to fit the
demand of future missions, and what role the government should play in this
expensive development process is a complicated debate which affects many people.
We re paying too much to go to space. NASA typically contracts out launch vehicles
from private companies for their launch needs, and historically they have almost
always gone to the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture between Lockheed and
Boeing). Up until recently, they have been one of the only organizations capable of
sending cargo to both low Earth orbit and geosynchronous orbit (an orbit which
matches the trajectory of the craft with the rotation of the Earth). As a result, a
monopoly has been created, and the price of sending anything into space costs a
ridiculous amount of money.

Colour in film is the way the audience can connect to the actors and how the
audience can feel emotion. Technicolor provided digital dailies and colour
finishing for the film. On Fences Technicolor provided as well as digital dailies but
also both sound and picture finishing of the film designed to match Denzel and
Charlotte vision. Michael Hartzer, colourist for the film Fences had developed a
vintage film for this film. Fences editor, Hughes Winborne, took on a formidable task
when he started work on the screen adaptation of August Wilson s acclaimed play
Fences. The challenges for Winborne were many. He had to execute Washington s
strategy of making the narrative work as cinema without undermining its status as an
American classic. The next element I will be is the cinematography of the movie.
The cinematographer of the movie is a lady called Charlotte Bruus Christensen.
Denzel brought Charlotte on set because he liked the way she managed to shoot her
14. Macbeth Illusion Vs Reality Essay
The line between an illusion and reality is a very slight. The only way to
differentiate between the two is through one s thoughts and perception. One s own
self perception can vary depending on one s circumstances and the way one is
raised. This slight gap between illusion and reality is also affected by one s back
story and how an individual is taught to think. In life, as in literature, one s own self
perceptioncan affect the way one differentiates between what is an illusionand what is
reality. In the play Macbeth, the author, William Shakespeare reveals how one s own
self perception can affect the way an individual differentiates between illusions and
reality. Many characters shift the way they see reality and question the illusions of
other characters nature because of the way they see themself and their past
experiences. Macbeth, the story s tragic hero, is a young man who loses his ability to

15. An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone
An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone
During the Nazi occupation of France, Jean Anouilh produced an adaptation of
Sophocles tragedy, Antigone, as a representation of the struggle between those
collaborating with the occupants and those resisting them. While it is possible to read
Anouilh s Antigone as a texte de la Resistance , it can also be interpreted as an
apologia for the Nazis severe, authoritarian behavior. The two key passages selected
are crucial to the development of the play in that they highlight the clash between
ideologies. While Antigone s speech offers an insight into her idealistic world view,
Creon s dialogue exposes his pragmatic approach to life. This conflict of thought and
action epitomizes the conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The harshness of Antigone s outlook is emphasised by Anouilh yet again when he
has her say that Oedipus only became beautiful when all hope was gone, stamped out
like a beetle [Passage A, line 26]. The violent nature of this simile reinforces Antigone
s strong belief in the value self renunciation. Simultaneously, it emphasizes that the
majority of ordinary citizens blindly follow the dictates of Creon s government and
his pedestrian mode of thought, aiming for nothing more than the contentment of
getting on with their lives. Repellent natural imagery is further utilized to distinguish
Antigone s higher aims from those of Creon and all those who are attached to life at
any cost: You [Creon] are all like dogs that lick everything they smell [Passage A, line
7]. This degrades Creon and his followers or fellow Collaborators to mere animals in
that they live by their animalistic impulses, most of all the will to live, rather than
upon any higher aim. This implies that pragmatism requires minimal thought or
emotional effort, while idealism on the other hand, demands a powerful self control
that can sublimate the animal will to live, and requires an advanced intellectual and
emotional level. It demands the renunciation of the saint, but as an existentialist
16. Playing High Action Video Games Improves Cognition
Video games are typically used as a scapegoat for several reasons, such as causing
violence and obesity. Many parents usually consider them a waste of time and
others classify video games with being lazy and unproductive. Unfortunately, video
game prejudice is nothing new; parents often blame video games for the failing
grades that their child received and/or talking back. Although no strong evidence
exists to prove these theories, numerous studies have pointed to improvement in
cognitive skills, such as vision and hand eye coordination, for those that play high
action video games. Therefore, playing action filled video games may be beneficial
to those with vision problems and people with certain diseases that can cause
cognitive issues such as poor hand eye coordination. However, the previously
mentioned individuals may be unaware of the studies that have shown the benefits
that may be the result of playing high action video games such as Call of Duty or
Battlefield. As a result, one can argue that playing high action video games improve
vision and hand eye coordination.
One way that playing action filled video games expands cognitive skills is through
improvement in vision. According to the article called Video games can improve
eyesight for adults in a study done at University of Rochester, 22 students were split
into two groups. One group played a high action game called Call of Duty 2, while
the other group played The Sims 2, a game that does not involve high

A language shift occurs when the people in a particular culture or sub culture change
the primary language that they use for communication (wiseGEEK, n.d). According
to Ravindranath (2009), language shift is the process by which a speech community
in a contact situation that is consisting of bilingual speakers increasingly stops using
one of its two languages prefers by other. Tsitsipis (n.d.) states that when a language is

for normal language change. From a purely linguistic of view, one has to find out

Bhatia (2013), states that bilingualism and multilingualism is an interdisciplinary and
complex field . As is self evident from the prefixes (bi and multi ), bilingualism and
multilingualism phenomena are devoted to the study of production, processing, and
comprehension of two or more languages, respectively.Bilingualism is a specific case
of multilingualism, which has no ceiling on the number of languages a speaker may
dominate. The timing and sequence in which one learns each of the languages has
led to other distinctions between kinds of multilingualism. Much of the linguistics
literature, for example, identifies native language or mother tongue as a first language
, ignoring the possibility or diminishing the value of having more than one native
language or mother tongue. Such a person is often referred to as a simultaneous
bilingual, while someone who acquires the second language after the first one is
often referred to as a sequential bilingual ( early if between early childhood and
puberty, and late if after puberty). The context of language acquisition leads naturally
to distinguishing between informal bilinguals, who acquire their languages outside of
formal settings like schools, imitating the natural processes of acquiring the mother
tongue, and formal bilinguals, who generally learn the language in schools or similar
settings. When these terms apply to groups, one speaks of bilingual or multilingual
communities or nations. The aggregate enumeration of the speakers in these groups
(also referred to as language diversity or demography) will often profile the number
of monolingual and bilingual speakers of each language. For example, there may be
a multilingual community in which speakers are monolingual in each of three
languages. This would be rare, and the language groups would probably be isolated
from each other. More often than
18. The Technology And Artificial Intelligence
What s the most advanced technology in the 21st century? The technology becomes
more similar like the human is the most advanced in the 21st century. Artificial
intelligence is one part of computer science involved with making computers behave
like humans. (Vangie Beal. 2015). Moreover, the Artificial Intelligence has scope
very widely. Artificial Intelligence covers a broad range of techniques, which can be
applied to a very wide range of application areas. (Russell, Stuart J.; Norvig Peter et
al.,2003). Also, evidence will focus on the knowledge acquisition, data mining,
computer vision and the search. An artificial intelligence system is intelligent not
only of banking and sharing data, but also of acquiring, representing, and
manipulating knowledge. (Buchanan. et al., 1983). Data mining is the process of
extracting non trivial and potentially useful information, or knowledge, from the
enormous data sets available in experimental sciences. (Ancell, R.et alпјЊ2004).
Computer vision is a different field, and its researchers have multifaceted concerns
and ambitions. (Tomasz Malisiewicz, 2011). Search plays a significant role in
solving many Artificial Intelligence (AI) problems. The search is a universal
problem solving mechanism in AI. (Robin et al., 2009). Knowledge Acquisition A
knowledge acquisition is utilized to acquire area information around an application
with the end goal of developing a specialist framework. Knowledge acquisition is the

issue with how to take full advantage of an opportunity in front of them, rather than a
problem that poses a threat to the company. As a company in its early stages, only
putting out its first product, it is critical that it is done in a manner that allows the
budding firm to grow. The main issue here is determining the most effective means
by which they are to manufacture and market their first product, CRP 1. Doing so
requires in depth evaluation of three strategic options, all with their own benefits and
potential risks. The problem statement, therefore, is as follows: Problem Statement:
Nucleon, Inc. needs to determine the best course of action for the manufacturing and
sale of its first product, CRP 1, in order to grow the budding company and gain
sustained competitive advantage against large rivals. [vi] III. Strategy Evaluation

21. The Vibration Of Pressure, Vibration, And Stretching Essay
The sensations of pressure, vibration, and stretching are each caused by multiple
different forms of mechanical energy: pressure is caused by direct contact with the
body from an object or substance; vibration is caused by movement of an object
being transferred to the body; and stretching is when two parts of the affected area
are moved apart (Vallbo Johansson, 1984). Similar to the way that temperature is
sensed, there are specific neuro receptors designed to transduce the energy from these
stimuli into electrochemical signals; however, there are also specific types of
receptors designed to sensedifferent levels of stimulus (Vallbo Johansson, 1984). For
example: for pressure, there are different receptors for heavy or harsh contact, for
light or gentle contact, and receptors for sensitive contact. There are even special
pressure receptors attached to every single hair in the dermis (Lumpkin, Marshall,
Nelson, 2010). These receptors delineate another way that the body integrates
different signals. By containing separate receptors for each stimulus and each level
of stimulation, the body does some of the processing before the electrochemical
signal ever reaches the brain.
Pain is a sensation that most people are unfortunately all too well acquainted with.
Just like sensing heat, cold, or pressure there are specific receptors geared towards
detecting pain (Adrian, 1926). The definition of pain is: physical suffering typically
from injury or illness. (Costello, 1992,
22. Ignorance In Oedipus The King
Ignorance is safe in a multitude of ways and is pioneered in everyone, but when one
substitutes ignorance for knowledge, pain and suffering often prevail as the
punishment. This is shown throughout the tragedy of Oedipus the King. Because of
the murder of king Lauis, Thebes is suffering, and Oedipus becomes prideful and
tries to convince the townspeople that he will solve the mystery. So, after a heated
argument with Creon and Tiresias, he decides to seek out the shepherd who witnessed
the event. Not only does Oedipusgain the knowledge of the fact that he murdered
Lauis, he uncovers that he is his wife s son. As a result, he gouges his eyes out. The
knowledge he gains is his ignorance lost, and he ends up suffering in the end.
Therefore, the overarching theme of Oedipus the Kingis that ignorance is safer than
knowledge because it shields people from the pain that comes with knowlege;
however, its is only a temporary solace because obtaining knowledge is often done
at the expense that the safety of ignorance brings. Ignorance shields people from
pain and suffering because it creates a temporary solace. Oedipus at the start of the
tragedy prides himself as the person who solved the SphinxВґs riddle and became
king. But shortly after, a plague descends upon the people of Thebes. Oedipus then
confronts his subjects and willfully curses the person who brought the plague to
Thebes, which also happened to be the person that slayed King Lauis (previous king).
But, Oedipus goes so
23. The Effects Of Torture On Human Rights Violations
Although the use of torture has been around since the first century, most Americans
did not debate on the controversial topic until after the Abu Ghraib incident surfaced
in April 2004. The Baghdad Central Prison, formerly known as Abu Ghraib prison
was a complex west of Baghdad. During the war in Iraq, US armed forces committed
a number of human rightsviolations, including pouring phosphorus liquid on
detainees, pouring cold water on naked detainees, beating detainees (Hersh) and
committing other psychological, physical, and sexual abuses. At the Abu Ghraib
prison, military officials abused detainees for several reasons or without providing a
reason. Enhanced interrogation techniquesare sometimes seen as necessary to extract
information, punish detainees, and instill fear; however, occasionally torture is used
without providing a reason. Proponents of torture insist its legitimacy in special
circumstances, especially when handling international terrorists. Opponents of torture
believe these human rights violations are medieval and inhumane. Torture is illegal in
the United States and no United States agency can legally engage in torture abroad.
No country should engage in enhanced interrogation techniques because the methods
are a violation of ethical principles, a violation of international law, a form of cruel
and unusual punishment, ineffective in combating terrorism, and immoral,
dehumanizing acts related to a lack of moral integrity.
First of all, the definition
24. America s New York City
Donald Trump speaks among a crowd of hundreds: They re bringing drugs. They
re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. This is
how a portion of American citizens perceive immigrants, and as the 2016
Presidential election gets closer the word immigration gets treated more delicately as
if it were a new phenomenon. However, immigration is no new or delicate subject
for New York City. In fact, residents (like in Queens) find it odd if a New Yorker isn
t of hybrid generation (Eichenbaum, Tour). The history of New York City has been
painted by the millions and millions of immigrants that have touched its land. It s a
cycle: one group of immigrants come, stay, and leave while another new group of
immigrants settle down. This continuous sequence is what makes New York City
such an innovative city when it comes to immigrants.
The Statue of Liberty in the early 19th century
Countless individuals connect the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to immigration
in the early history of New York/nation. However, we have records of immigrants
long before 1886, when the Statue of Liberty was placed. The first of these immigrant
settlers were primarily the Dutch, whose control was supplanted by the British in
1664 (Haberstroh, Web). Not until the mid 19th century did New York City see
immigrants settling in great numbers. One of the earliest immigrant populations to
settle on the Lower East Side in masse were the Germans. By the 1850 s the massive
population
25. East Of Eden Transformation
In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, the reader is introduced to a wealth of
unforgettable characters through an extensive period of time and across the United
States. The novel begins in Connecticut and mostly takes place in the Salinas Valley
of California. It spans from the American Civil War to post WWI. Over the several
generations, the characters change and adapt to their situations extensively to create
some of the most lively characters in literature. The Trasks and the Hamiltons are
introduced as the main families of the story and never cease to amaze. The characters
are not contained to these families though as several integral side figures take the
spotlight and work to move the plot. The coming of age tale that last three generations

In the Cain and Abel story, where former kills the ladder, Cain is exiled to East of
Eden. From the title of the story, you can already tell the allusion will be heavy.
Not only do Cal and Aron play to the stereotype of the Bible story, their father and
uncle, Adam and Charles, do as well. Adam and Aron play the part of the innocent
Abel, whereas Charles and Cal play the part of the rebellious and wrongful Cain.
All four characters do take large strides away from their associated character from
the Bible, however, all remain true in the end to their respective stereotypes. A key
example of this is how both generations react to their father s picking of favoritism.
The Bible sees God, the father in the case of the book, rejecting Cain s gift and
then the subsequent killing of the brother. In the case of East of Eden Steinbeck
has them reenact this nearly identically. Cyrus Trask chooses the pet Adam found
rather than the knife Charles bought. This leads Charles to beat Adam to near
death before Adam escapes. One generation later, Adam rejects Cal s money
saying that living an honest life like Aron is better. This leads Cal to unravel and
reveal to his brother that his mother is evil. Though it is not the same as killing
him, it sets him on the path to the military which gets him killed. The entire
narrative can be summed up by one quote from Adam. What chance did we have?
We are the children of our father. It means we aren t the first. (page 267). This
could be interpreted as just a call back to how their father was unhonest, however, it
can be better understood as saying Cain and Abel were the first and everyone after
them relived their mistakes and jealousy. All in all, the stereotypes of the novel serve
the purpose of moving the plot along and creating the setting and atmosphere.
Unforgettable characters are created and last in the reader s
26. Brief Summary Of Eliezer Wiesel s Night
For the first time, I felt anger rising within me. Why should I sanctify His name?
The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent.
What was there to thank Him for? (Pg. 61 63) I think this is the most significant
passage in Night because Eliezer s entire life he always praised Godand loved him for
protecting him but the when he was sent to a Concentration Camp all of his love
turned into hate because Eliezer felt like God stopped caring about him; The
Concentration Camp took away Eliezer s means of living.
Night ending summary: Right after Eliezer s father was cremated because he was
very sick the Germans cut off all rations to the prisoners and started evacuating
everyone in groups of in blocks of ten. On April 10th the Germans decided to
evacuate everyone but were ambushed by the American army and all the prisoners
were freed. The book ends with Eliezer talking about how everyone s first act as

As soon as he is sent to the Concentration Camps he losses this part of his life and
starts blaming God for not doing anything. Eliezer also starts caring more about
himself and only about food rather than for his family. Eliezer multiple times thinks
about not sharing his food rations with his very weak old father and he even thought
about a way to leave his father so he does not have to care for him. This shows how
a hellish experience like the Holocaust can completely change a person s means of
living.
I think Roberto Benigni titled his film Life is Beautiful because it is a title that
contradicts to the actual plot of the movie because the Holocaust is the complete
opposite of life being beautiful. The title however also goes well with the movie
because it relates to how Guedo turns the Holocaust into a game to protect his son
and how he makes a major sacrifice for his

28. The History Boys Movie Review
The comedy in The History Boys centres around opposition created by the two
teachers Hector and Irwin. Comedy is created through clear contrasts in personalities,
and teaching methods. Bennett makes use of this opposition in order to display
society s norms, values and views on education. Additionally, comedy is created
because the opposition creates clashes between the two teachers therefore creating
conflict. During the 1980s, educationwas in a state of change. Traditional values of
order and discipline were being challenged by more progressive methods .
Therefore, when corporal punishments were banned in 1987, teachers like Hector
faced difficulties and hardship because old school teachers [were] unable to control
their classes . However, Irwin who is more contemporary and does not have to adapt
to change his teachingmethods to suit the educational reformation taking place. The
contrasts create comedy because Bennett uses it to mocking the conflicting ideas.
Comedy is created though oppositions in personality. Hector has an eccentric and a
rather optimistic personality, which differs to Irwin s intellectual and ambitious
personality. Hector is the long time English master and Irwin is a very young supply
teacher. Both teachers crave the boys attention and approval. The differences in
personalities create comedy because it entertains the audience and makes them
express amusement as the collision of personalities leads to the teachers competing
for the boys
29. Essay about The Cat and his Master
The Cat and his Master
Puss in Boots is a strange little folk tale in which a talking cat performs deeds of
heroism in order to further his master s lot in life. It is saddled with a moral which
implies that through hard work and ingenuity one can rise above his station. This
hardly seems to be the case, however, when we look at the contributions made by the
miller s youngest son and master of the puss himself. Furthermore, the symbolism
peppered throughout the tale would seem to indicate that there is more going on.
The tale begins with the death of a miller, who leaves his sole possessions to his
three sons. The youngest of the sons winds up with nothing but what he believes to
be a lowly cat, which he is convinced will be good ... Show more content on

The cat in turn becomes the son and the main protagonist of our story and the only
character to go through a transformation. When viewed at this angle, the moral
retains its truth.
The deeper story here seems to be a part coming of age, part underdog overcoming
the odds tale. The story begins with a miller. In a pre industrial society, the miller
would have had an important position, akin to a woodcutter. The miller was
responsible for grinding corn into meal, essential in making bread and other
staples. His death represents a lack of a provider in his sons lives. The two elder
sons are granted an inheritance that will allow them to make a living, but not the
youngest, who gets the cat. The cat, a possession of the miller, also finds himself
without a provider, and hatches a plan to prevent the son from eating him. In the
course of the story, the son becomes as reliant on the cat as he was on his father. It
is at this point that the cat replaces the son as a formal story element. In many
respects, the cat and the son are two halves of the same character, their fates
interlocked with one another. This is a deliberate device which reflects the medieval
superstition that cats were somehow linked to their masters, as Robert Darnton
suggests in his article The Great Cat Massacre.
The cat asks for some boots to protect his feet from the thorny undergrowth. Putting
boots on the cat reinforces the superstition and creates an
30. Yeats Sailing To Byzantium Analysis
Not a Country for the Old
(A discussion on three messages from Yeats Sailing to Byzantium.)
William Butler Yeats was a poet of the twentieth century, a time of change with world
wars, revolutions, technology change, and much more. William Yeats is considered
the most important poet of the twentieth century. The Irish poet and dramatist
William Butler Yeats(1865 1939) was perhaps the greatest poet of the 20th century.
He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923 and was the leader of the Irish
Literary Renaissance (Gale). Yeats started his career with plays, and eventually
moved to poetry. Poetry gave him a loud voice to express what he wanted. One of
his most remembered pieces of work is Sailing to Byzantium. In Yeats s Sailing to
Byzantium three messages are displayed.
In Sailing to Byzantium, William Yeats expresses the message of young people
only being interested in the present. When people are young they are
inexperienced and dumb. Yeats acknowledges this idea in his poem and explains
the idea that being young is fun, young people like to be together, or in love. He
realizes young people are only interested in the present and nothing else. Caught in
that sensual music all neglect, monuments of unaging intellect (1). Yeats explains
that the old will try and give wisdom to the young, but it s useless because the
young doesn t wish to listen. The young are too busy living life to the fullest, to sit
down and listen to the words of a wise old man. Yeats

In taste tests, Canadian Club has surpassed competitors like Crown Royal and Jack
Daniels and its price should reflect this. By Marking up its price from $23.40 for a 26
oz bottle to approximately $30.00, consumers will observe Canadian Club to be of
higher quality and value.
It is highly recommended that nothing be changed about the product itself. In order
to maintain its classic status, the bottle, labeling, flavour, and production process
should remain true to its original state. Changing the bottle and labeling of Canadian
Club may also result in being poorly received by current customers and Canadian
Club may lose sales.
As a result of strict Canadian liquor distribution laws, there is very little that can be
done or can be recommended in terms of determining the placement of Canadian
Club. Canadian Club is available in any licensed store and most bars across Canada
(LCBO, 2011).
To establish a future customer base, creating and promoting a unique new cocktail
menu featuring Canadian Club as the cocktail base would be effective. There have
been many Boardwalk Empire inspired cocktails created with Canadian Club Whisky,
that can be made up into a small booklet, sold with a 26 oz bottle of Canadian Club.
Some of these drinks include the Boardwalk Manhattan, the Tea Totaller Teaser, and
the Top Hat (Loughlin, C, 2010).
Teaming up Canadian Club and HBO s Boardwalk Empire with a new contest
promotion would work beneficially for both parties.

Romeo and Juliet are believed to mature throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet , but
in reality, their sophistication did not change at all. At the beginning of the story, they
both threatened to kill themselves because they didn t get what they want but by the
end of the story, they actually took their lives. Being mature consists of being
responsible, and acting a few years over a current age. Romeo and Juliet were not
mature with their relationship. They got married in a matter of hours. These reasons
make Romeo and Juliet not mature, although they were believed to mature somewhat
throughout the play/book. Romeo and Juliet are considered to be royal rich kids who

After elementary school, my mom and dad separated. At the time, I was thirteen
years old and still had a strong notion that my dad would eventually come and join
us in Bel Air, Maryland, where we had moved to during the summer of 2006.
However, towards the end of the summer, I slowly came to terms with the fact that
I would not be living with my father the way I had before. Through interactions
with my new predominantly white middle school friends, I was exposed to a
wider variety of genres such as metal, rock (classic and new age), punk, and pop.
At the time, I believed I just listened to this new genre music because it was new
and what my friends listened to, however, now I realize it was a potential

responsible for the emotional we feel in response to music. In addition, I believe I

37. The Impact Of Rastafari On The Late 1920s And Early
1930s...
Rastafari Rastafari is a young religion that was established in Jamaica in the 1930s,
which originated from Marcus Garvey s movement in the late 1920s against the
oppression of the African Race. Rastafari advanced into a religion right after the
crowning of Halie Selassie I as the emperor of Ethiopia in 1930. There are
approximately 1 million followers all around the world today. There are multiple
branches inside of Rastafari, each of them carrying similar customs, beliefs, and
views.
Rastafarianism commenced in the Jamaican Slums in the late 1920s and early
1930s. Rastafari started out as a movement in the 1920s led by Marcus Garvey, a
Jamaican publisher, journalist, and entrepreneur. Garvey led the organization known
as the Universal Negro Improvement Association, whose intentions were to unify
blacks with their land of origin. Garvey preached Look to Africa where a black king
shall be crowned, he shall be your Redeemer. (BBC) This statement later became the
basis of the Rastafari movement. When Emperor Halie Selassie I crowned himself
emperor of Ethiopia in 1930, Rastafarians saw the crowning as the fulfillment of
Garvey s prophecy. In fact, Rastafari takes its name from the Emperor s original
name, Tafari. (Biography). Rastafari followers believed that Emperor Halie Selassie
was the Black Messiah, Jah Rastafari, who is a figure of salvation. Jah Rastafari was
thought to redeem blacks from white suppressors, reunifying them with Africa, their
native homeland.
38. The Gender Wage Gap In The Workplace
As a progressive society political, social, and economic structures change
continually. Despite these changes there are several areas in which change is not as
extensive, take the workplace for example. According to Statistics Canada as of
2016, women represented slightly more than 50% of the Canadian workforce and on
average women earn 73.5 cent for every dollar men earn. (Canada, G. O. 2017)
Although effort has been made to close the genderwage gap currently women continue
to earn less than their malecounterparts do. The gender wage gap can be defined as
the difference in wages earned by men and women in the workplace. The gender
wage gap can be calculated in one of three methods including comparing annual
earning by gender for full time and part time employment, comparing the annual
earnings of full time employment, and comparing hourly compensation by gender
for part time employment. (Rodas, S. n.d.) Depending on the method used to
calculate the wage gap a women in Ontario would have to work and additional 14
years to earn the same amount of money as a man earns by 65. Contrary to popular
belief the gender wage gap has no boundaries and varies greatly, Slovenia having
the smallest gap at 3.2% and Bosnia having the largest gap at 46%. (Stahl, A. 2017)
Even though the wage gap is targeted towards women it does not affect women
equally, those who are part of a visible minority, are significantly younger, or older,
all experience a greater gap in compensation.
39. Negative Effects Of Eating Meat
While copious amounts of vegans live full lives without eating any substance
derived from animals, the human easily digests and absorbs meat, therefore their
health may improve if they eat meat. The physical and social evolution of the
human species shows a need for meat in the diet as the overall intelligence of the
species has increased as a whole. There is a plethora positive effect of eating meatthat
masses of vegans ignore, to their eventual downfall. The amount of negative effects of
avoiding meat is higher in number, including deficiencies and disorders. The human
digestive system is built to be able to ingest meat and vegetables. There is an
abundant amount of arguments proving that the human body is built to digest meat,
the physical evolution is major.
An important point of argument between vegans and meat eater is physical
evolution. The physical evolution of humans show the experts that people have
evolved to have the systems needed to easily and efficiently digest food. As humans
adapted their enzymes evolved to digest meat (Smil) this digestive change aided
higher encephalization and better physical growth. (Smil). The human body easily
breaks down meat as a result of these enzymes, making it easier for the body and
brain to grow. Without meat in the early human races diet, they wouldn t even have
become human (Kluger). The proteins found in meat made the human race more
human than the previous species of early people. Meat provides more calorie rich

In 1862 Dr. Richard Gatling invented and patented the original six barrel, .58
caliber Gatling gun that fired up to 300 rounds per minute (McNab). The Gatling
Gun became just the beginning, however, as it would lead to world renowned
inventions in the military and change war forever. Dr. Richard Gatling grew up on
a small farm in South Carolina, working with his dad on their small farm, making
ends meet. In his earlier years, he caught a bad case of smallpox and almost died in
1846 (Silvia). His encounter with the disease sparked his interest in medicine and

caliber gun, that shot around three hundred rounds per minute. Later in the war,
however, after being suped up , it had ten barrel, .58 caliber gun, that shot four
hundred rounds per minute (History.com Staff). However, as the war progressed
and rifles as well as fighting tactics changed, generals started to see there are many
ways to avoid the Gatling Gun, and ways to make it even more inaccurate for the
enemy shooting at them. Although this caused the gun to lose its popularity and use,
the way that it forever changed war is incredible. It forced generals for both the
Union and the Confederates to use, and to create new styles of

experience, and build a portfolio through being an assistant to a professional.
Someone who wants to become a fashion photographer should build up a portfolio of
their work showing that they know how to take pictures that look good enough. A
fashion photographer should also know how to edit their images with something such
as Photoshop. Something else an aspirating fashion photographer can do is get an

Hurricane Katrina is often times referred to as the worst natural disaster in United
States history. Thousands of people lost everything they had and were stranded for
days. There is an ongoing debate whether the government did enough for the people
affected, or if they were too slow to take action? Hurricane Katrina was not only a
natural disaster, but a political one as well. Yes, houses, cars, and families were
destroyed but due to a failure of communication and cooperation in our government,
unnecessary damage was done. After watching the video, The Storm, it seems that
one specific agency was responsible for the lack of support
43. The Book Smarter s Is Pointed Out By Robert Stam
КЅThe book was betterКј is pointed out by Robert Stam as one of the most common
made statements comparing a novel and itКјs cinematic adaptation. Therefore, a clear
focus on the loss rather than a gain can be detected.1 The notion of fidelity between a
novel and the adaptation seems to generally have a high importance to the masses;
one can be disappointed if the adaptation does not meet personal expectations such as
narrative, thematic and aesthetic features.2 Fidelity between a literary and a
cinematic work might, according to Stam, be impossible due to automatic differences
in change of medium.3 Many misunderstandings about the relation between the two
art forms exist. Therefore, Stam suggests a film and novel can never be equal as the
corresponding adaptation is not merely a summary of the novel. Additionally, a film
as a pure summary would result in a neither understandable, nor enjoyable immense
amount of text. This essay focuses on StamКјs argument exploring the novel as a
collection of sources and ideas.4 The resulting adaptation is supposed to be inspired
by the text and further use cinema specific techniques to expand the possibilities.
More concretely, Martin ScorseseКјs 1993 film adaptation of Edith WhartonКјs 1920
novel The Age of Innocencewill be used to explore the relationship and possible
inequality between the two forms of art. The novel uses words and the film uses
cinematic effects but both can create a similar feeling for the audience.
