The key events during the client life cycle of a page using Microsoft AJAX include the load event of the Application instance for initial requests and synchronous postbacks. When using UpdatePanel controls, the main events are those of the PageRequestManager class, such as beginRequest and endRequest, which allow handling scenarios like canceling postbacks. These events can be handled by adding event name methods to the Application and PageRequestManager classes.
The presentation deals with ASP.NET page life cycle and gives you a brief introduction of the events that are fired during each phaze of page processing.

OpenWhisk is quickly gaining momentum as a serverless platform, where function developers can deploy their executable code (or even docker containers), without having to manage builds or servers or monitoring or all the things required to host a conventional web application. To date, it has not been possible to leverage the cluster-wide scheduling facilities for running functions via OpenWhisk. We will present a Mesos framework for efficiently leveraging cluster resources for use by OpenWhisk functions, and trace the evolution of this framework from web application, to Mesos framework, and finally to DC/OS package based on dcos-commons.

Service workers and the role they play in modern day web appsMukul Jain
Service workers have greatly improved the experience of web apps by providing offline access to pages, caching data, background sync and other native app-like features. Nowadays, Progressive Web Apps are working together with service workers to provide the users better performance and experience than a typical web app. But service worker’s power doesn’t just stop at giving offline experience and background notifications. They can be used in areas ranging from request deferring to the virtual server.
"Service Worker: Let Your Web App Feel Like a Native "FDConf
Nowadays web apps become inseparable part of our everyday life. But even playing such a big role they still don’t have a lot of advantages the native ones have. Service Worker is designed to break down these barriers. Installing and updating your app, fully controlling the network cache, intercepting network responses, sending push notifications and doing backgrounds updates. All these becomes possible with Service Worker. Is your web app ready to rock?

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

M S Ajax Client Life Cycle Events
1. Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX Client Life-Cycle Events
The two main Microsoft AJAX Library classes that raise events during the client life
cycle of a page are the Application and PageRequestManager classes.
The key event for initial requests (GET requests) and synchronous postbacks is the
load event of the Application instance. When script in a load event handler runs, all
scripts and components have been loaded and are available.
When partial-page rendering with UpdatePanel controls is enabled, the key client
events are the events of the PageRequestManager class. These events enable you to
handle many common scenarios. These include the ability to cancel postbacks, to give
precedence to one postback over another, and to animate UpdatePanel controls when
their content is refreshed.
To add or remove handlers for events raised by the Application and
PageRequestManager classes, use the add_eventname and remove_eventname methods
of those classes.
Note: To handle the load and unload events of the Application object, you can create
functions that use the reserved names pageLoad and pageUnload.
function pageLoad() {
var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance();
if (!prm.get_isInAsyncPostBack())
prm.add_beginRequest (onBeginRequest);
}
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager Events
Raised during initialization of an asynchronous postback.
initializeRequest
Raised before processing of an asynchronous postback starts, and the postback
beginRequest
request is sent to the server. If there is a postback already processing, it is
stopped using the abortPostBack method.
Raised after a response to an asynchronous postback is received from the server,
pageLoading
but before any content on the page is updated.
Raised after all content on the page is refreshed as the result of either a
pageLoaded
synchronous or an asynchronous postback.
Raised after an asynchronous postback is finished and control has been returned
endRequest
to the browser. If an error occurs, the page is not updated. Use this event to
provide customized error notification to users or to log errors.
Sys.Application Events
Raised only once when the page is first rendered after all scripts have been
init
loaded, but before objects are created.
Raised after all scripts have been loaded and objects in the application have
load
been created and initialized. Raised also for all postbacks to the server, which
includes asynchronous postbacks.
Raised before all objects in the client application are disposed. During this event
unload
you should free any resources that your code is holding.
