Potential causes and types
Types Causes
Type 1 Due to direct chest wall compression against
lung parenchyma. This accounts for majority of
cases.
Type 2 Due to shearing of lung tissue against vertebral
bodies.
Type 3 Localized lesions due to fractured ribs which
directly injures the underlying lung.
Type 4 Due to underlying pleuro-pulmonary adhesions
due to prior injury tearing the lung parenchyma.
