How’s Life? 2015 describes the essential ingredients that shape people’s well-being in OECD and other major economies. It includes a wide variety of statistics, capturing both material well-being and quality of life. This third edition includes a special focus on child well-being, on volunteering and on inequalities in well-being across different regions within countries.
Market conditions are improving, but unemployment is still declining too slowly and unevenly across countries. It is projected to continue its slow decline, reaching 6.6% in the last quarter of 2016 while remaining above 20% in Greece and Spain. Weak real wage growth remains an issue of concern, particularly in the Euro area. Minimum wages can help underpin the income of low-paid workers, but must be closely coordinated with tax-benefit policies to be effective. Wage inequality has been rising in a large majority of OECD countries. To minimise the wage gap, investing in skills is crucial – particularly where skills are scarce relative to demand. In terms of job quality, emerging economies perform worse than OECD countries. Youth, low-skilled and informal workers typically hold the poorest quality jobs. To make labour markets more inclusive, activation policies have to be designed to improve the employability, expand the opportunities and maintain the motivation of jobseekers.
A global study is a core output of Youth4Job project and was done in close cooperation of all PPs. The study is not intended to analyse the situation or causes of youth unemployment - there is already an extensive literature in this regard, but trends or measures recently applied or initiated in order to fight against this problem which is severely affecting the European economy and social welfare.

The nature of work is changing. People will need to adapt and readapt. The Haitian government must invest in early childhood education and health and build a lifelong learning system that will allow the Haitian youngs and adults to be reskilled and/or upskilled in many cases. Also, it must build a social protection system that will promote a renewed social contract. In order to do so, the government may conduct tax reforms that will allow the leaders to find the financial means they need.

Albania aims to achieve a rapid, balanced and sustainable economic development, which requires the possession of capable human resources to cope with different challenges. In this context, among others, the employment and training of young people remain challenges that the Albanian society is facing from many years. High unemployment rates along with low labor force participation and low employment rates characterize the Albanian youth labor market (ILO, 2014, Youth employment and migration, Country brief Albania, pg.2). Studies and research on this phenomenon are important in order to create effective policies to overcome this problem. In this article, is treated the subject of employment for the age group of 15-29 years old. The main data analyzed in this paper are those of INSTAT, taking into consideration are the reports and studies carried out in this sector. The purpose is to show what are the difficulties of young people to enter the labor market and the main factors that influence it.
JOBLINGE brings together stakeholders from the public and the private sector as well as civil society in order to help these young people to integrate into the labour market.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

4. Institutional arrangements in Poland The role of Public employment services PES provide the following services for all unemployed and job seekers : Work exchange Vocational counselling and information Assistance in active search for a job Organization of training courses

Institutional arrangements in Poland The role of PES as for youth unemployment The Act on employment promotion and labour market institutions defines a category of „persons in special situation on the labour market” to whom specific ALMPs are available: Intervention works Public works Apprenticeship (till 2009 available only to youth unemployed) Adult vocational education This category includes the unemployed under 25 years of age.
6. Additional measures provided by PES for youth unemployed Within 6 months since the registration, the district job centre should present to the youth unemployed a proposal of employment, training course, apprenticeship, adult vocational education, intervention works or public works Apprenticeship lasts up to 12 months (for other types of unemployed up to 6 months)

Conclusions - challenges There is a strong correlation between unemployment rate 15+ and youth unemployment rate During the crisis (economic slowdown in Poland) resources allocated to ALMPs (especially for apprenticeships) were of high importance as for combating youth unemployment. If there had beenno state intervention, the youth unemployment rate surely would be higher
11. Conclusions - challenges Still, efficiency and effectiveness of ALMPs is the problem. Many people under 25 become unemployed again after completing the apprenticeship. Significant cut in the Labour Fund resources allocated to ALMPs in 2011 (about 70% less than in 2010) may result in higher youth unemployment in Poland this year.
