LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State and West Texas A&M are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 14-4 in league games.
League play continues this week with one game Tuesday, five Thursday and five Saturday as teams compete for
championship seeding.
The LSC champion will be the regular season winner determined by league games, while the postseason tournament
winner is designated as LSC Tournament Champion and earns the conference’s automatic qualification. The top eight
teams in the final conference standings qualify for the postseason tournament set for March 1-4, 2018, at Dr Pepper
Arena in Frisco, Texas.
The LSC women are 139-140 overall. The women’s squads are currently 19-17 combined against the Heartland, and
10-12 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Tiara Tatum, Tarleton State University, SR, Guard, Fairfield, Texas, Fairfield HS
Tatum led the way offensively for the TexAnns last week in games against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's.
The senior from Fairfield led the team with 14.5 points per game on .588 shooting from the floor. In Saturday's game
against Texas Woman's with the TexAnns trailing by two with no timeouts left and 8.67 seconds remaining in regulation,
Tatum took the ball the length of the court and converted a physical layup to force overtime at 59-59. In addition to
averaging 14.5 points per game, Tatum had five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
DEFENSIVE
Tyesha Taylor, West Texas A&M University, JR, Center, Temple, Texas, Temple
Taylor had a standout weekend for the Lady Buffs as the Temple, Texas product led WT to a pair of home wins over
Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State. She helped limited opponents to 60 points per game and 36.7 percent shooting.
The New Mexico State transfer went 11-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the free throw line to average 13.5 points
per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds per contest with four blocks. Taylor was unstoppable on Saturday afternoon as
the junior went 8-of-10 from the floor including 5-of-8 from the free throw line with a career high 21 points to go along
with 12 rebounds and four blocks for a double-double in a big win over Angelo State.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Marquita Daniels, Angelo State University, led the Belles to a road win at UTPB tying her career high of 29 points.
The senior averaged 21.5 points per game with three assists. She averaged 4.5 steals and hit 48.5 percent from the field.
The Atlanta native also made four 3-pointers and was 87.5 percent from the charity stripe.
Sierra LaGrande, UT Permian Basin, led the Falcons with 17 ppg as UTPB split this past week, losing 83-61 to Angelo
State before defeating Texas A&M - Kingsville 83-64. All of LaGrande's field goals came beyond the arc for the week,
where she was 11-20 from 3-point range. She ranks second in the league, averaging 2.7 3-pointers per game, and is
hitting her threes at a 38 percent clip on the year.
Ciara Fields, Western New Mexico, continued to pace the Lady Mustangs this week as she tallied 30 points, along
with seven rebounds, an assist, a block and five steals. She poured in 20 points and five rebounds against Cameron and
then turned around and added 10 points and three steals versus Midwestern State.
Princess Davis, Texas A&M University-Commerce, led the Lions in scoring average again last week, averaging 13.5
points per game. She also led the team in assists. She scored nine points in the Lions loss to Tarleton State. She then had
18 points and four assists in the team's win over Texas Woman's. Davis is 10th in the LSC in scoring and fourth in assists.
Mikaehla Connor, Eastern New Mexico University, averaged 10.5 points per game last week in wins over
Midwestern State and Cameron. Her ability to drive through the defense opened up both games and allowed the

3. Hounds to shoot .423 from the floor and connect on 10 three-point field goals. Against Midwestern State, Connor was a
perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and shot .583 over the two contests. With five assists, she facilitated the offense
throughout the week. Connor also created foul trouble for the opposition and took full advantage by hitting all seven of
her free throw attempts.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, was stellar on the boards for Tarleton last week as the sophomore
forward had double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. Hailey
totaled 24 rebounds for an average of 12.0 per game to go along with 10.5 points per game. Her biggest rebound of the
week came with 8.67 seconds on the clock against Texas Woman's when she pulled down a missed free throw and
found Tiara Tatum with the outlet pass, who went the length of the floor to tie the game and force overtime.
Ekiya Gray, Angelo State University, tied her career high with a 14 rebound game against UTPB and averaged 11.0
rebounds in two games. The senior grabbed 11 offensive and 11 defensive rebounds in two games. She helped limit
opponents to 41 percent from the field. The Houston native recorded five assists, one block and three steals as well.
Daeshi McCants, Eastern New Mexico University, helped limit the opposition to just 61.5 points over two games last
week, which resulted in a pair of Greyhound wins. With seven defensive rebounds against Midwestern State and eight
more against Cameron, she helped limit the opposition from having extra chances to score. McCants also blocked a pair
of shots and recorded a steal. Against Cameron, she registered her seventh double double of the season. McCants also
scored in double figures in both games.
Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had four steals and a block for the Lions on the defensive end as
she asked throughout the week to guard the opposition's best players. She had two steals to go along with 6 points and
five rebounds against Tarleton State. She then had two steals and a block to go with four rebounds and 16 points in the
Lions' win against Texas Woman's. Wise is second in the LSC in scoring and fifth in field goal percentage and is in the top
20 in blocks, steals and rebounds.
Parfitt McNair, Cameron University, was a nightmare for opposing ball-handlers this past week recording eight steals
in CU's split of Western and Eastern New Mexico. Against the Mustangs, the junior matches a season-high with five
steals while also grabbing three rebounds, connecting on five assists, and scoring four points. She followed up that effort
with three more steals against the Greyhounds to go along with her game-high 21 points and three rebounds. McNair
averaged 12.5 points, three rebounds, and four steals over the two game span while helping CU limit their opponents to
shooting just 35 percent from the floor and 22.2 percent from the perimeter.

Angelo State

Cameron
For the seventh straight week, the Aggies went 1-1 in the LSC matchups. They took down Western New Mexico, 67-55,
behind 15 points from Jamie Bonnarens and 10 points from Ava Battese and Amaka Nwakamma. Two days later, CU fell
to Eastern New Mexico, 65-57. Parfitt McNair scored a game high 21 points while Battese chipped in 14. McNair led the
Aggies during the two game stretch with 12.5 points and four steals per contest.
Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds swept a Lone Star Conference home stand with victories over Midwestern State and Cameron last
week. The two wins not only solidified ENMU's hold on fourth place in the league standings, but clinched a winning
record in LSC play for the second straight season. The last time the Hounds had consecutive winning seasons in LSC play
came in the mid to late 1990's. The Greyhounds have won seven of their last eight games and are 12-1 when scoring at
least 60 points. This week, ENMU will close out the regular season at Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

4. Midwestern State
1-1 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton split with Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. The TexAnns will close out the regular season at home
against UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M this week.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions split their games last week. They lost to Tarleton State before rebounding with a win over Texas Woman's.
A&M-Commerce is in third place, just one game behind the two leaders. They finish the regular season hosting West
Texas A&M on Thursday and UT Permian Basin on Saturday.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
0-2 last week.
Texas Woman’s
TWU lost 68-57 at Texas A&M-Commerce Thursday before recording a 77-69 overtime victory at Tarleton State
Saturday.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin finished its home schedule with a split against a pair of conference foes. On Thursday UTPB fell 83-61
to Angelo State. UTPB had the three working early going 5-6 in the first quarter, trailing 21-19. ASU pulled away from
there. Saturday was senior night and UTPB went out with an 83-64 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. UTPB got off to a
hot start knocking down five first quarter threes to jump out to a 27-13 lead. TAMUK kept the deficit there until UTPB
pulled away in the fourth quarter giving the seniors a victory in their final home game. Sierra LaGrande led the way
averaging 17 points while going 11-20 from deep for UTPB. Jasmine Spriggins averaged 11 off the bench for UTPB. As a
team UTPB went 26-55 from three.
West Texas A&M
The No. 25 Lady Buffs ran their win streak to seven games this past week with home wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and
Angelo State to move into a tie atop of the Lone Star Conference standings with two games to go. The Lady Buffs
conclude the regular season this week as they head to Commerce, Texas to take on the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce
on Thursday night followed by a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Tarleton State TexAnns at Wisdom Gym in
Stephenville.
Western New Mexico
WNMU came close to putting together a run late against Cameron, but the Aggies were able to hold on for the win.
Midwestern State pushed away early in the second half and never looked back in taking the win on Saturday. Ciara
Fields continues to pace the offense, as she led the way with 30 points. Takiyah Lopez added 24 points and Jade Botelho
tallied 23 points. Melody McLaughlin led the team in rebounds with nine and assists with 10. Fields continued to pace
the Lady Mustangs this week as she tallied 30 points, along with seven rebounds, an assist, a block and five steals. She
poured in 20 points and five rebounds against Cameron and then turned around and added 10 points and three steals
versus Midwestern State.
