Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) is defined as abnormal hemorrhage from the bowel distal to the ligament of Treitz, with an overall mortality rate of less than 5%. The incidence of LGIB is 20% to 30% among patients presenting with major gastrointestinal bleeding, and it is more common in older patients and females. Various causes include diverticulosis, angiodysplasia, and inflammatory diseases, while management involves identifying the source of bleeding, treatment, and possible use of diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy.
