The Dark Mood Of Citizen Kane
Personally, I did sense a change in the overall "mood" of the film, (through the progression of scenes and such). I thought that it became lighter but also
(mainly) darker throughout the whole movie. For one, the director Orson Welles, opened the entire movie with a very caliginous, horrendous and
intimidating scene–that follows the death of the main character or "hero" of the film. So, right off the bat a very daunt thing occurred. As the movie
progresses, I felt the dark mood begin to (in a very minuscule way) deplete a little, and grow almost lighter. As the movie continued, it seemed like
it was reversing in Kane's life, showing his affair, his first wife's relationship, his campaign for becoming the governor etc. It continues like this
throughout the entire story. But, as it lightens it also grows darker as well, hitting on the points of Kane's life that were unforgivable (leaving his
family, forcing his new wife to sing, etc). In these moments the mood grew darker. Since the movie was based off of Citizen Kane (and basically his
rude behavior) the mood did grow darker in more aspects but, it had light hearted moments, especially in the end when the researchers and other
people were going through Kane's house and personal items, they seemed to joke and state Kane's life in a blunt way–it was almost as if the somewhat

The majority of the audience is the same as the genre of the film – science fiction. I know this because it shows elements usually found in science
fiction films such as robots. The fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger would be interested by the trailer because it shows him in a lot of the shots, has his

In the movie "Blade runner", Ridley Scott the director, incorporates the filming techniques lighting, sounds, setting and camera angles. The ways Scott

Throughout the movie, Scott uses lighting as a technique to enhance the emotional effects of his audience. One scene in which lighting can be
interpreted is below. When we are shown Deckard's apartment in other scenes, the details of the space are barely distinguishable. The apartment
is incredibly dark and void of visible details. This is a parallel to the character of Deckard himself. Deckard comes across as keeping all emotion
within and not being very expressive. This is in the nature of his profession and he is therefore sometimes seen as cold or emotionless. This
character attribute changes when it comes to his relationship with Rachael. In the scene below the apartment is lit far more than normal. The viewer
is now able to see details about the space. It is later in this scene that the true feelings of Deckard are seen when Rachael tries to leave the apartment
and Deckard proceeds to block the door, throw Rachael against a window, and kiss her. Deckard opens up and shows true emotion, just as the space of

Whilst the fight is going, it gets very hard for the audience to recognise as to who is a Montague or a Capulet. Zeffirelli has not shown the fight as
dangerous and serious as it should be. It gives humour to the audience when people are throwing cabbages at each other during the fight.
The other side of the coin is the Luhrmann's version. It also begins with a prologue, but only this time, it is broadcast in the news. The news
broadcast makes the audience very passionate about the film right in the beginning, which will keep them at the edge of their seats. Luhrmann shows

There is then a tracking shot of the man inter–cut with a close up of a roadside drain, where the creature 'Tooms' is lurking. When focused on the drain,

The director has used this shot to create suspense and tension. By focussing on the sign it gives emphasis and meaning. This immediately gets the
audience thinking and creates deep effect because the audience is getting into the film and makes them think and feel tension. In contrast Lurhmann

In This essay I will discuss the use of camera movements, framing and the editing devices in the crop–duster sequence of North by Northwest (Alfred
Hitchcock, USA, 1959) By focusing on these three techniques I hope to establish what effect they have on us and how that effect is achieved? I will
look closely and analyse certain shots in this sequence, which I feel are significant in creating suspense. By dissecting the layers of each shot, I hope to
reveal the technique and intentions behind them.
The first significant shot I will discuss is just after Eva Marie Saint's face dissolves. This extreme aerial shot established the vast area in which Cary
Grant faces. The camera stays in its fixed high angle as a bus approaches with Grant. The bus drives off and the camera angle and frame do not

Watching Mikhail Kalatozov's film I am Cuba (1967) is a moving cinematic experience. In the beginning, the film portrays a stereotypical Cuba through

moves from a repressed country to an epicenter of revolution through four vignettes in which each builds momentum to the next and an overall narrator

Pulp Fiction by Quinton Tarantino falls into the genre of a Gangster film but has elements of other genres as well like Film Noir and Black Comedy.
Pulp Fiction has a balance of drama and comedy along with hard to watch scenes like rape, violence, gore and heavy drug use. Tarantino's style of
movie making help make Pulp Fiction the classic it is today. The mise–en–scene, cinematography and other elements of movie, including sound effects
and round characters leave us intrigued as well as content with the story structure as well as its ending.
The storyline jumps from one storyline to the next and presented in nonchronological order. Tarantino gives us bits and pieces of one story then jumps
to another. This style of narrative is unusual. Ultimately, the whole story comes full circle. The opening scene ends where the scene began. We see the
conclusion of the robbery and how it connects to the film.
In one of the first scenes with Vincent Vegaand Jules Winnfield, we see the pair going to collect money for their boss Marcellus. When Jules and
Vincent go to the trunk to get their guns, we see them at a low angle. Props and dialog indicates the authority and danger of the two men. We now
know they are gangsters.

used to portray numerous important ideas and themes throughout the film. Pai helps me to understand and appreciate that women can also be leaders
that are equal to men if they have the right attributes. The director Niki Caro uses numerous different film techniques to convey this idea, such as; the
camera shots and camera angles when Pai is giving her speech to Koro, the use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if
fixing the motorboat engine, and the use of props when Pai is teaching herself to use the Taiaha. The use of camera shots and camera angles while
she is giving her speech to Koro, helps to show Pai's important attributes which are necessary for a good leader. One of these shots is the low angle
while Pai is giving her speech. Low angles are often used to give the focus object or person a feeling or respect, even if Pai is crying, which shows
that Pai is respected by the community. As she is crying during this scene, and the director still chooses to use a low angle, consequently, this shows
that she is a strong, powerful, and resilient figure, which are especially important attributes of a leader.
Additionally, in this scene is a wide shot down the aisle of the hall, with Pai in the middle, and framed by the audience. Furthermore, this exhibits that
the community supports Pai, even at her weakest and most fragile, while she is in tears on the stage. The support of a community is an important
attribute for a leader to have, due to the importance of leadership is not just being one person, and is also the whole community. The camera shots and

This frustrates the audience because Juliet does not speak to him. Romeo takes the poison, he dies, and the silence after his death is so tense. We then
hear the sound of Juliet crying when she loads the gun on her, and moments later, the sound of the gun shot echoes. The camera shows the two lovers
happy in death and we see a flashback that reminds the audience of the night they met and the happy moments that they shared together. The flashback

The Change in Manliness Through Camera Angle and Zoom By April of 1945, the second World War was drawing to a close. Nazi Germany was
unraveling as the allies were closing in on Berlin. However, the battle for the Pacific was still raging. The movie Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson
encapsulates the vicious fighting between the Americans and Japanese during the battle of Okinawa. The movie depicts the struggle Private Desmond
Doss (played by Andrew Garfield) during boot camp, and battle, faced from his fellow soldiers because of his extreme religious practices. In the
middle of the film, during boot camp, we can see that the platoon bully Doss in the barracks, especially Private Smitty. In this scene, through camera
angle and camera zoom, Mel Gibson encapsulates the discrimination and group mentality of the platoon against Doss. After the initial assault however,
and after Doss single handedly saves seventy or more soldiers, the platoon waits for Doss to finish his prayer before assaulting Hacksaw Ridge the
second time. By showing this scene, Mel Gibson destroys the connotation that a man is only judged by his physicality and toughness. By showing that
Desmond is the most courageous man in the platoon without being violent, it shows that religion and self–belief is what a man is truly judged on. The

It is intriguing to witness the development of technological shift in society. The newest technology has played and enormous role in media and it
has a major effect on the way films and all other forms of media are originated. The style in which images, sound, and text are developed is much
distinct from how it was processed many years ago. Digital Cinematography is a technique used to record and capture motion pictures as digital
video images. Unlike the traditional analog film frames, digital capture provides other ways to capture motion pictures such as video tape, CD, or
flash drive. With the help of digital cinematography filmmaking has become relatively easy allowing filmmakers to produce various types of films.
Southpaw, an action/drama film released in 2015 directed by Antoine Fuqua is about a boxer who is subjected to a real if strenuous transformation
reeling from tragedy. While movie critics found the film to be a bit clichГ© the viewers didn't seem to mind. What set this film apart from most
boxing movies was Fuqua's display of masculine aggression, intense violence but yet emotional and familial drama that keeps the viewer's tuned into

Lighting and all of the various camera angles combine with color and costume and music to create an atmosphere that is compelling to the viewers
and convey the history of a created man. The scenes I selected on YouTube begin as he lies in Kim's bed in town and dissolve as he remembers
how life was in his early past. You see his inventor deciding to build a man, you see him teaching Edward, you see his final gift to Edward before
dying and leaving him alone, and you see Edward with Kim. The time involved is 6.10 minutes. Throughout the film there is use of lighting and mise
en scene to build the audience reaction to what they see.
Tim Burton uses lighting, differing camera angles and music to contrast fantasy with reality and show the strength of the characters. Burton uses
lighting to show fantasy and reality in all of his movies.
In the film high key lighting represents regular humans. The lighting in town such as in Kim's room has vibrant colors and uses high key lighting. The
color is used to show the contrast of humanity and normality of the town, even though true emotion is faked by some. It is also used to convey

Upon entering the parlor, Hitchcock has set the stage for the viewer to use Marion as a vehicle to determine how Norman is like. The POV shot of
Marion studying the room first brings out attention to a stuffed Owl and a stuffed crow, the first indicator to the viewer that something is not right,
making us feel suspicious already. Marion then takes the seat closer to the tiffany lamp while Norman takes the seat at the opposite side of the room
