Antonio Lotti was an Italian Baroque composer born in Germany in 1667 who spent most of his career in Venice. He became maestro di cappella at St. Mark's Basilica at age 53 and dedicated his life to teaching music to orphan girls. His compositions included 7 oratorios, 10 masses mostly a cappella, around 30 motets for voices and instruments, and 50 cantatas. His music was influential and widely disseminated during his lifetime, including by J.S. Bach who arranged one of Lotti's masses.
