Individual Contribution
- When filming, I took many of the shots and directed scenes that I featured in as well as others. I worked with different shot types and was creative in shot selection. I also filmed scenes multiple times to get the best shots.
- For the trailer, I acted as the villain. This allowed me to direct peers and provide feedback to improve shots and scenes. It kept me busy either acting or filming. It also avoided delays finding another actor due to schedules.
- During editing, I assembled shots and added effects like brightness, color, and glitches. I ensured shots flowed together smoothly like the transition of a character walking into another scene.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conv...khalfyard
The document discusses the creation of a short film and how it adheres to conventions of the genre. It was created by the author and a production group for an A-Level media studies project. In writing the script and storyboarding, the author researched conventions of short films and tried to follow typical structures. The short film has a limited number of characters, a run-time under 30 minutes, and follows Tzvetan Todorov's narrative structure model. It also uses techniques like stereotyping characters and had a limited budget, reflecting common constraints of student short films.
Here are a few key differences I noticed between your mental health podcast and the existing BBC Radio 1 "Life Hacks" podcast on anxiety:
Style:
- Yours has a more serious, formal tone while the BBC one has a lighter, more casual style.
Structure:
- The BBC one flows smoothly with music fading in/out between segments. Yours has a more straightforward question/answer format.
Production quality:
- The BBC one sounds very polished and professional with clear audio quality. Yours could benefit from improved recording equipment.
Content:
- The BBC one interviews experts and people with lived experience. Yours focuses more on answering questions directly.
Overall, the BBC podcast
1) The document analyzes how the film trailer uses conventions of real film trailers and whether it challenges any conventions.
2) Key conventions used include showing the title at a dramatic point with music, using realistic settings, appropriate costumes and props to portray characters, and varying camera angles to keep viewers interested.
3) The trailer also follows conventions through its three-part musical structure, steady editing pace matched to the voiceover, and mostly straight cuts between clips.
4) One way the trailer challenges conventions is through its use of both black and white and color imaging to represent two different eras, a less common technique than typically using one or the other.
The document discusses the actors, costumes, and props needed for the music video. It will feature two dancers, Fraser and Zoe, performing a contemporary dance routine. The narrative will focus on a couple, Josh and Franny. Costumes for all actors will be minimalist and neutral colors. Props are not needed as the focus is on the dancers and actors. Examples of successful indie pop music videos with both high and minimal production values are referenced.
The document provides an evaluation of how the film trailer uses conventions of real film trailers and whether it challenges any conventions. It summarizes key elements of the trailer including the title introduction, settings, costumes, props, camerawork, editing, special effects, narrative, voiceover, and intertitles. The evaluation finds that most elements follow conventions but some aspects like the dual timeline with black and white and color footage challenge conventions.
The document discusses conventions for opening sequences in children's films. It summarizes the conventions, which include introducing characters, establishing the location, using theme music/soundtracks, title/credit sequences, and introducing the film genre and storyline. It then analyzes the opening sequence of the author's own children's film based on these conventions. The summary analyzes how it introduces characters and location, uses music to set tone and genre, and introduces the fantasy/adventure genre and storyline through visuals and music. It also discusses areas for improvement, like clearer character introductions and more engaging credits for children.
This document provides a summary of secondary research conducted for a media coursework project, including summaries and analysis of the short films Vincent, Frankenweenie, and Mater and the Ghostlight. Key points taken from the research include using changes in music to represent different personalities in the project film, incorporating the title into the story, and employing different color schemes and lighting to contrast two worlds or personalities. Dialogue is found to often be more visual than spoken in the referenced films.
The student produced a film opening for a horror genre film. They used techniques like an establishing shot of the main character, spooky music to set mood, and titles to introduce information. Testing with the target teenage audience showed the opening effectively set up the scary genre. Through the process, the student learned skills like planning, camera angles, editing, and how technologies can be used to create high quality film openings.
This document provides context for Hope Smith's final major project (FMP) in which she will create a short horror film. She is interested in horror due to being influenced by horror in various artistic mediums from a young age. For her FMP, she hopes to create a psychological horror film that makes audiences feel uncomfortable and anxious. While she has strengths in video editing and problem-solving during filming, Hope acknowledges weaknesses in audio editing and writing that she wants to improve upon. She plans to expand her skills in areas like foley sound effects and using new equipment like a stabilizer.
The document discusses how the media producer's music video challenges and develops conventions of the genre.
It begins with an establishing shot of the main character to identify her as the focus. Locations include a forest to create mystery and a house to provide context. Costumes are casual rather than revealing atypical of the genre. Cinematography uses varied angles rather than a clear storyline, as drum and bass videos often do. Special effects add conceptual elements representing the character's feelings to make the video unique. Overall it reimagines typical conventions to match the emotional song.

The document summarizes a student's title sequence evaluation project for a film noir thriller. It discusses how the student used conventions from real media products like Sin City in their sequence. They incorporated elements like black and white visuals, ominous music, and crime/love tropes. Camera angles, lighting, costumes, and editing were tailored to fit thriller conventions. An audience survey found the 15+ aged viewers largely enjoyed the sequence and thought it succeeded as a thriller. The student learned new technical skills and how planning and research are vital for a cohesive media product.
The document discusses how the filmmaker used and challenged conventions of short films and romantic comedies in developing their short film "Fluent in Love".
Some conventions that were used include a cyclical narrative structure, conventional camera shots like two shots and close-ups, diagetic sound, and a film poster featuring a two shot of the characters in red font.
Some conventions that were challenged include using plain credits without an ident, more inventive shots like extreme close-ups of objects, manipulated editing techniques, and non-diagetic music at the end. Overall the filmmaker aimed to have an independent and lighthearted style while still following some traditional conventions.
What have you learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the fina...sapna begum
Sapna reflects on what she has learned from her preliminary task to her final film production. For her preliminary task, she demonstrated basic understanding of continuity editing but felt it lacked effort. However, she enjoyed learning the rules. For her final production, she placed more emphasis on mise-en-scene, sound, cinematography, editing and location. She incorporated props and costumes to convey themes and chose locations to establish the film's setting. Through this process, Sapna gained a deeper understanding of techniques like rule of thirds, foley sounds, precise editing and using establishing shots to provide regional identity.
