- 2. Protagonist Actor – Rory Giddings I cast Rory Giddings in the role of my protagonist, the role consists of the character walking around various locations in New York and eventually coming into danger. I chose Rory for this role for a number of reasons. He has a mature look to him which is required, especially during close up shots of him. Rory has experience with a successful tenure as a GCSE Drama student thus allowing a degree of acting ability to my film opening. He is also a close friend of mine which enables me to work well with him and helps me to direct him well without any possible hostility. I have worked with him for many similar projects and as such I am confident with my decision to cast Rory as the principle character for my music video.
- 3. Gunman Actor – Ross Cogdell I cast Ross in this role because he is a media student and therefore will be able to assist me in the filming process as he has an understanding of how things are shot etc. He is also a good friend of mine which will allow us to work together well as well as with Rory. His expression in the picture used is the type of look I want for this character as well as I envision the character to be emotionless and cold. As a result of this, I believe Ross will be a great addition to my music video.
- 4. Gun Victim actor – Andrew Goldman • I decided to cast myself in this role because it is only a small role which is one barely seen, therefore there is no need to use somebody else for such a minimal role as it will save time and stress. Also, due to the nature of the characters harsh death, I will be able to do the small stunt myself and not put anybody else at risk.
- 5. Costumes – Protagonist This grey hoodie will be used throughout. I want this colour because I believe it reflects the protagonists initial grey outlook on life and misery. Another reason is because of the fact that I feel that a grey hoodie would look particularly good alongside the bright lights of New York and would give brighter looks to the shots. The black trousers too are helpful in making the character seem unspectacular as they are generic and work well with the hoodie.
- 6. Costumes – Gunman and victim I am picking a relatively standard suit for the gunman character as I want him to seem inconspicuous when we first seem him. The coat he will wear will add extra mystique to the character and make him feel dangerous, as the gun he will use will be pulled quickly from underneath his coat. For my character, I feel it necessary to have him in a suit too, so that the two are seen on a level playing field when they first come into the music video. During the argument they have over the briefcase in the story, being in a suit seems to heighten this idea as being legitimate as briefcases are most often associated with men in suits.
- 7. Props – Printed signs There are 3 printed signs that I will use in my music video during the first scene in the Ringwood underpass. These are of lyrics and read “Downtown”, “Traffic in the city” and “Neon signs are pretty”. These are used to entice the protagonist to keep moving forward due to the lucrative soundings things like “city” and “neon signs” which differ greatly from the dimly lit, graffiti filled underpass he is in.
- 8. Props – Movie poster Similar poster genre/style The movie poster will be set in a noir film style, and is seen in passing. It will feature a poster for a mafia like film and will foreshadow the events which lead my protagonist to getting shot. It is a subtle feature that I’m excited to create and gives the video the starting point of a darker overtone about downtown life. It will be seen during the lyrics “There are movie shows, downtown.”
- 9. Props – Briefcase and gun These props are used during the shooting scene in the music video. The briefcase is used as a mysterious item which is desperately wanted by the gunman and the victim. I like the idea of it being in black as it would blend in with the black night look of the scene and add to its mystery. The gun is of course used as the weapon which the gunman used to get the briefcase and cover his tracks by eliminating the protagonist as the witness. It doesn’t need to be a big powerful gun as it would distract from the cold blooded and serious nature of the scene, also its being used as pistols are a realistic and instantly identifiable weapon.
