The document provides installation instructions for Longboard siding and soffit. It recommends using precision and having an experienced professional install Longboard due to its precise nature. It describes required tools like compound miter saws and blades for cutting non-ferrous metals. Longboard must be fastened with self-drilling screws to allow for removal if needed. Instructions are provided for parallel and perpendicular soffit and siding installation, including starter strips, venting strips, and expansion joints. Care must be taken during cutting and installation to avoid damage and ensure proper expansion/contraction gaps are left.
How to formalize a ubiquitous language into a domain-specific language.pdfJuha-Pekka Tolvanen
Language defines the boundary to our world: it sets what we can describe and what we can’t. This talk describes and demonstrates how to formalize a ubiquitous language into a domain-specific language. If we do this move the language is not used only for communication and collaboration as well as used as a basis for generating code, tests, configs, etc. It means that domain experts/subject matter experts use the language. The talk is based on industry cases from various domains, such as banking and insurance, industry automation and automotive, and been demonstrated during the talk.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
You could be a professional graphic designer and still make mistakes. There is always the possibility of human error. On the other hand if you’re not a designer, the chances of making some common graphic design mistakes are even higher. Because you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s where this blog comes in. To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.

1. Note: These instructions are prepared for persons experienced in the general field of soffit and siding installation and assume
a foundational working knowledge of the tools and application process. From a system and process perspective, Longboard
is very similar to vinyl siding and soffit installation with the exception of the cutting and flexibility. Longboard requires more
precision and is not as fast to install. It is highly recommended that Longboard be installed by an experienced professional.
Important! Before starting the install;
• Check the delivery is complete and everything has arrived in good condition
• Inspect product prior to application. Longboard is not responsible for the installation of blemished or damaged
product.
• Use appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment). Cutting metal on a compound miter saw increases risk of eye
injury. USE EYE PROTECTION.
• Plan your install for best yield/finish appearance.
• On wood finishes understand the repeating pattern to ensure a satisfactory install.
• Do not install over pressure treated material without adequate barrier protection
How is Longboard cut/fastened and what tools will I need:
A compound miter saw and small table saw with a blade for non-ferrous materials must be used, for example:
• Dewalt DW 3217-10
”
80T non-ferrous metal cutting blade
• Dewalt DW 3229-12” 80T non-ferrous metal cutting blade
• Holes for pot lights up to 4” use appropriate hole saw, larger holes will require a jig saw. Protect surface prior to
cutting holes
Longboard must be fastened with a DT2000 (Leland Industries) or equivalent #8 self-drilling screw of appropriate length. This
will allow product to be removed if required without damage. Screws also allow installer to back off the screw and shim to
address framing discrepancies or deflection caused by rain screening or exterior insulation.
Cutting Tips
• Longboard Soffit is a finished material, complete upon install. A reasonable amount of care is essential to obtain the
desired results; we recommend taping the face of the trim saw surface as well as table saw surface to prevent
marring and scratches.
• Cut face up whenever possible.
• All Longboard Siding and Soffit profiles are produced a minimum of 1” longer than the spec’d length, specifically
allowing the trimming of ends on woodgrain colour installations
• Always cut off taped ends as corner trims and “J’s” will not cover this.
A proper amount of care, as with any prefinished product, will result in a premium quality installation and a lifetime of
maintenance free enjoyment.
Expansion/Contraction
The expansion coefficient for aluminum will create movement in length of 5.6mm (1/4”) on a 7.3m (24’) piece of Longboard
when exposed to a temperature change of 30 degrees C (86 F). This means that if a full length (7.3m) or 24’ piece of
Longboard is installed at 8 degrees C (46 F) and the temperature rises to 38 degrees C (100 F) each end will have moved
1/8” or just under 3mm. If the temperature drops 30 degrees C (86 F) the piece will “shrink” by this same amount therefore it
is imperative that Longboard is fit to the midpoint of coverage in the trim pieces as this will allow for both expansion and
contraction to take place without pushing the trim pieces. Do not fasten Longboard cladding profile and the trim profiles
together as this will not allow the required movement to take place. If Longboard is confined at each end the
expansion will cause waving.

2. Installation Instructions
Parallel to house
Soffit Installation
• Press starter strip against fascia, using a corrosion resistant 1” #8 self-drilling screw fasten through flange.
Longboard is a complete “hidden fastener” system
• Insert soffit female profile onto male starter strip, fasten through flange
• Insert integrated venting strip female profile onto male soffit profile, fasten through flange Note: some applications
benefit from applying black building paper to the framing material above the vent area to reduce the visibility
of framing lumber through the vent.
• Continue with soffit until completed
• Final soffit piece may need to be ripped and two piece closer profiles used
• The Longboard perforated vent provides 84 inches of NVA per 12’ stock length. Ensure adequate venting as per
code requirements 21 lineal ft. = 1 sqft of Net Vent Area
Perpendicular
to house
Soffit Installation
• Center 2 start strips between fascia’s and fasten through flange
• Insert soffit female profile onto male starter strip, fasten through flange
• Work out towards fascia corners
• Install enough integrated venting strips to meet local building codes
• Note: some applications benefit from applying black building paper to the framing material above the
vent area to reduce the visibility of framing lumber through the vent.
• Final soffit piece may need to be ripped and two piece closer profiles used
• The Longboard perforated vent provides 84 inches of NVA per 12’ stock length
Siding installation
Follow the same principles as outlined for soffit, install all starter strips, J trims, and corner pieces before installing
Longboard cladding profiles. On very short runs using a closer profile may be necessary as the siding profile will not be
able to be flexed into the area between two trim pieces.
Installation Tips
• Longboard Soffit and Siding is essentially a tongue and groove installation. The ability to shim or spread each board
by up to 1/16” allows you to compensate for framing discrepancies.
• If mitering the corners, it is recommended to use paint pens to trace over the exposed cut during install, eliminating
any possible metal glint.
• The use of Longboard components like the “Single J”, “Double J”, 2 piece expansion joint and 2 piece closer
assemblies create a much quicker installation, resulting in labor cost savings, and no need to fuss with that perfect
miter.
• On runs of siding or soffit which exceed 24 linear feet, an expansion joint using a “Double J” or 2 piece “snap cap and
U channel” is recommended to allow for material expansion.
• Longboard products with the wood grain have a repeat pattern every 2’ – 4’ depending on the particular species.
Some species have distinctive features which on a large wall format may display a noticeable pattern if not installed
properly. Longboard arrives in boxes of 12 pcs with two pieces taped together at each end for a total of 6 sets. Each
set has a “piece 1” and a “piece 2” (from a wood pattern perspective) these pieces are created from a different area
of the pattern and therefore are distinct from each other however each will have the same repeat distance. To
eliminate grain mirroring it is recommended to install a “piece 1” then a “piece 2” then an offset “piece 1” and then an
offset “piece 2” and continue mixing the pieces up the wall.
