Pablo Picasso s Accomplishments
Through the years art has been regarded as a form of communication, emotion, a feeling or
expression of ideas, by which we mean a person or convey something. This demonstration can be
captured in a painting, sculpture or even through writing, which through their expressions disclose
the most characteristic form of a culture. In our society many people show great interest in the art
of their countries and the actual value of all these forms of expression, which contribute in some
way to the promotion of cultural identification. By century to century there has been many creative

Examples Of Alliteration In Beowulf
Beowulf is an Anglo Saxon epic about a young Swedish warrior and the three great monsters he
faces. Although oral for a long time, Beowulf was recorded in Old English sometime between
700 and 1000 CE. Through the use of alliteration and symbolism, the legend of Beowulf
characterizes Anglo Saxon principles of loyalty, bravery, and good lordship. In it s Old English
form it used caesuras and alliterations in the same way modern English poetry uses meter and
rhyme to make the poem flow. Beowulfwas originally in dactylic hexameter like most epic poetry,
including Homer and The Iliad. Dactylic hexameter has 6 meters (often syllables) where the third
meter alliterates with the first or second meter but never the fourth. This complicated formula...

The warrior s spirit enwound in flesh
Here, Wyrd is seen as the inevitable or fate. But often Wyrd is treated as a sort of God, as in
chapter 33, one fight shall end our war by the wall // as Wyrd allots, all mankind s master. What
may seem like to conflicting ideas of Wyrd was probably one all encompassing entity to the Anglo
Saxons. Their idea of divinity and destiny were very entangled a reflection of Anglo Saxon culture
itself which was a combination of Catholic missionizing, Celtic tradition, and Roman past.
Beowulf was an oral legend in Britain in the Middle Ages told in mead halls and before kings.
By looking at the moral of the story, we can understand that loyalty and generosity were important
themes of this war ridden time period. The character Beowulf was used to personify these ideals
and his story became both an example of the rewards of these ideals and the consequences of
shirking them. Beowulf is not just a story, it exemplifies a way of

The Ph Of A Solution
The pH of a solution is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration in the solution. It can be
defined as the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH = log [H+]
When the pH of a solution is below 7, it is an acidic solution. This means that there is a higher
concentration of free H+ ions in the solution. When the pH of a solution is above 7, it is a basic
solution and it means that there is a higher concentration of OH ions in the solution. This is
because the bases tend to lose their electrons and bond with protons. So When the pH = 7, the
solution is neutral. In other words, the acidity of the solution decreases with higher pH values. The

The salts can be derived from strong acids and bases making the solution neutral, from strong
acids and weak bases making the solution acidic, from weak acids and strong bases making the
solution basic and from weak acids and weak bases making the solution neutral. Buffers are
solutions that resist changes in pH. They contain a Bronsted Lowry conjugate acid base pair where
either the acid or the base is a weak electrolyte. They play an important role in our life processes.
The chemical reactions take place at a specific pH in our body and it is very vital to maintain
that pH. When there arise some changes in the pH, this is where buffers come into play. For
example, the carbonic acid base buffer helps to achieve the acid base balance in the blood. Buffers
also help to maintain the homeostasis of the cells. Antacids help people with their heartburns, which
are caused due to excess acid that tries to escape through the pyloric sphincter into the esophagus.
This therefore causes heartburn. Antacids behave as buffers by neutralizing the excess acid present
in the stomach. Examples of antacids are Alka Selzer, Tums, Briochi, Pepto Bismol, Bromo Selzer,
Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta etc. Antacids have a certain neutralizing capacity and the greater it is,

Dietary Guidelines For Healthy Eating Patterns Essay
The 2015 2020 Dietary Guidelines was published last January 2016 and contains key
recommendation in having healthy eating patterns. These guidelines encourage healthy eating
practices in which individuals have to change their current eating habits, in order to make better
choices when it comes to food and drink intake. They also help individuals understand that as a part
of a society, they all play an important role in promoting healthy choices. However, this does not
restrict their eating behavior. In fact, they can still enjoy their food and beverage choices, while
they are encouraged to make better, healthier choices. Although there are different dietary
guidelines recommended by physicians and all affirms that shifting to healthier eating pattern
improves health, the 2015 Dietary Guideline provides eating pattern recommendations that are easy
to follow and accessible to all, regardless of culture and economic status. Through constant
research, a question was raised to see how these guidelines align with another nutritional diet, more
specifically the Paleo Diet. This diet is focused on bettering the well being of individuals, while
allowing them to live healthier and stronger lives. It is important to understand the positive
suggestions that the US Dietary Guidelines lays out, but to also see how the Paleo Nutritional Diet
matches up with these guidelines, in order to determine which is more influential to follow for an
individual s health. Based on the previous dietary

How Parachutes Were Used During WWI
How Parachutes were used during the war? Parachutes proved capable for more than entertainment
when they began to apply them during the First World War. During the First World War parachutes
were a valuable utility that was used to save balloonists observing during the war that had serious
problems with the balloon. Parachutes were mostly just used for balloonists since Americans
decided that if they gave parachutes to pilots, that they would jump out when unnecessary, and
leave the aircraft to be destroyed. But, only after realizing that pilots were difficult to train and far
more valuable than aircraft did they start to allow their pilots to begin wearing the guardian angels
that saved them from horrendous deaths. Parachutes obtained another

Education In Public Education
Education has undergone many rhetorical and definitional changes since its creation; the explicit
purpose of teaching the masses, particularly in the framework of public schooling, has varied from
culture to culture. At its core, though, the aim is simple: to efficiently construct productive
members of a society. This effort has to encompass so much of the values of said societies that it
becomes impossible for educational institutions to avoid the influence of larger institutions. Within
these constraints comes the effect of social reproduction. This institutional byproduct of education
rooted in societal values guarantees that students who come from lower income backgrounds are
fated to experience this existence as adults, whereas students from higher income families have the
advantages to follow in the footsteps of their parents. Without deeply studying and working to
reverse social reproduction, our current educational system is the story of history repeating itself.
In the humble beginnings for early American understandings, public education was designed to
create productive citizens in part by mollifying any potential class conflicts. According to Horace
Mann s conceptions of public schooling for the country, providing a uniform education meant
providing equal opportunity for all. If the lower class thought that their students had the opportunity
to succeed like the rich did, they would be much less likely to rebel against the systems currently in
place (Brick 2005).

Reverse Discrimination In The United States
Lately the United States media has been focused on the unfair treatment many people receive based
on their skin tone, whether it is the recent police brutality against African Americans or the focuses
the 2018 presidential election has put on illegal immigration. Unfortunately the media has avidly
avoided any subject that may be considered reverse discriminationalso known as reverse racism.
Reverse discrimination is a phenomenon in which members of majority groups receive unfair
treatment in attempt to remedy earlier discrimination against minorities. Many people believe that
reverse discrimination is becoming more prevalent part of modern society, by creating equal
opportunity s this issue can be easily reduced.
Reverse discrimination has become a joke with in many minority communities, approximately
seven in ten black (74%) and Hispanic Americans (70%) do not believe discrimination against
whites is as big of a problem as discrimination against other groups (Public Religion Research
Institute 38). This is because many people hold the opinion that only minorities can be
discriminated against. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Race ...

The Bronx Zoo: Welcome To The JungleWhere in the world can you see grizzly bears wrestling
in the water, giraffes walking through the grass, and penguins playing in the snow, all in a span of
a few minutes? How can you experience incredible and exotic animals without traveling across the

Welcome to the Bronx Zoo.
The Bronx Zoo was founded on November 8, 1899, by the Boone and Crockett Club which was
later renamed the Wildlife Conservation Society. On opening day the zoo boasted a whopping 843
animals in 22 exhibits. The zoo borders the south side of the New York Botanical Garden. The land

This was the first animal hospital in the United States of America to be located in a zoo. In 1941
the zoo got a brand new ambulance specifically for animals. There is a famous photo of
veterinarian Leonard Gross standing in front of the new ambulance holding a lion cub. In 1985,
a new animal hospital was built. This new hospital was over ten times the size of the first one.
Since medicine and technology have changed in major ways over the years, the new animal
hospital also has been updated and modernized to keep with the times (Thompson 1). I m sure
many animals have had their lives saved by this incredible hospital. A unique thing about the
physical property and architecture of The Bronx Zoo is that there are several New York City
landmarks, located within its walls. The biggest one in the park is the area from the Rainey
Gate entrance on Fordham Road which was landmarked in 1967, all the way to the end of Astor
Court at the zoo center, which was landmarked in 2000. The Rainey Gate is named after Paul

Understanding The Core Variables That Affect Our Lives Essay
Aging, although a quite evasive and rather frightening thought, is an inevitable process that occurs
to every form of life, regardless of genetic makeup or origin, and it is a fundamental mechanism in
which our universe/cosmos is able to fuel itself with and ultimately flourish on. It is simply
invariable, in order for there to be creation and rebirth, there needs to be the set process that
eventually leads to death and reconversion in a perpetual system/method of sustenance.
Understanding the core variables that affect these processes are essential because they allow us to
gain a deeper insight into what it means to age, both physically and mentally, but more importantly,
how to live our current lives to ensure a happy, gratifying, and fuller existence.
For my Aging Process assignment, I have chosen to interview my grandfather Joe Pacheco. He
is a currently retired man who is approximately 84 years of age, and presently resides in sunny
Thousand Oaks, California. Never being too prominent in my life at a young age, apart from
occasional family gatherings and outings, there wasn t too much that I really knew about him
before this, so choosing him for my interview assignment was in a way metaphorically killing
two birds with one stone. The things that I DID know were that he was a veteran who went on to
work in the fire department for a large portion of his career and was now retired in California after
his divorce, in which he was apparently ecstatic about. Having spoken to

Essay on Sweatshops
Sweatshops in the United States
Americans love to shop. With malls everywhere you go, shopping just might be America s favorite
past time! When you are out shopping though, do you ever stop to think where all of those clothes
and shoes come from? When I was younger, well, actually until recently, I always thought they were
all made by machines. Shirt machines, pants machines amp;#8230;you get the picture. I have
learned, however, that for the most part, clothes are still made on sewing machines, by people, and
often under circumstances that we can only imagine.
Sweatshops have always been a problem in the Unites States, especially during the past century.

In some cases, I ve learned, with brute force. On August 2, 1995, the Department of Labor raided
a factory in El Monte, California. There they found 72 garment workers, mostly Thai and
Mexican immigrants, being forced to work 17 hours a day at wages between $.60 and $1.60 and
hour. They were literally held captive at the factory by barbwire and armed guards. Employees
were threatened with rape and violence if they attempted escape. The El Monte sweatshop was
finally discovered when an employee escaped through a ventilation shaft.
In many sweatshops, however, the workers are there voluntarily. Even the meager wages earned are
more than the undocumented immigrants workers would earn in their home countries. As long as
there is a supply of willing workers, sweatshops will flourish.
So what can be done? How can the sweatshop problem in the United States be resolved? Is there
even a plausible solution? Through my research for this speech I have discovered that everyone
seems to have a solution, yet putting the solutions into action is another thing altogether.
Of the many solutions to the problem, the main, and most obvious solution, is government
regulation. The Department of Labor monitors the garment industry, but with 800 inspectors for
22,000 garment contractors, in addition to 6 million American

`` Hills Like White Elephants `` By Ernest Hemingway
In his short story Hills like White Elephants, Ernest Hemingway uses symbolism and landscape
subtly but effectively to emphasize the tension between the main characters. The reader is asked to
extrapolate much of the information in an indirect fashion. The reader must look into the
symbolism and imagery used alongside the words the characters share and don t share. The natural
landscapecovers almost the entire story, offering vivid images that contain a large amount of
interpretive insight into the story. The setting puts the couple at a crossroads, a stopping place in
their journey through not just Spain, but through their lives as well. Though the exact location of
the train stationis not given, it is often thought to be in Zaragoza, Spain. The trainstation is a
midpoint between their past time together and the future time that they will move toward when
they leave on a train. Train stations, airports, bus stations, and ports give us a sense of transition,
of being between worlds, and between experiences. Placing the stage for the drama in such a
locale really grabs the reader s attention and drives further symbolism in the story. Joseph Urgo
points this out in his writing quite well by stating the junction where the train will stop in the story
is not just the meeting of the Barcelona and Madrid lines, but the clash of male and female sources
of power and authority. (Urgo 36)
Hemingway stresses a few main elements of the story s setting. The oppressive heat,

Misguided Rationale
The truth is not always present in the news. Reporters make mistakes, but when that wrong
information gets to spread the problem begins. The media is in a race on putting out information.
The danger is that there is no checking to make sure the information is true. Media is in a cycle of
the news getting a hold of an alternative fact, the media spreading it, a powerful sourcerestating the
information, and the general audience seeing that story as fact. That information can then be turned
into political policies and ideologies. When the person that are spreading the wrong facts gets
challenged with the truth, they tend to a backlash towards the critic. They refuse to admit to their
mistake deepening the misguided rationale behind their fact.... Show more content on

Gladstone spent the reading illustrating how false news gets spread. Facts can be giving because
they are catchy. This does not make them accurate. When a powerful source gets the fake news,
that is when there is a problem. Technology increases the likelihood of alternative facts being
caught. There is a problem when the person who spoke the information refuses to admit their
mistake. Gladstone uses the example of Lou Dobbs to show this point ( Gladstone 54). He stated
that if we reported it, it s a fact when confronted with the inaccurate numbers he used in his report.
Trump does a similar argument when confronted with his wrong information. Bill O Rielly pointed
out that Trump was wrong when he stated that thousands of Muslims were seen celebrating after 9
/11. Trump refused to admit his mistake, but instead used a Breitbart article that agreed with him
as his defense (Oliver). This shows that people are after the news the want to hear. Breitbart is not
thought of as a reliable source, but they stated Trump was correct so he used them as fact. Trump
and Dobbs both did not want to admit to their mistakes. They both saw what they said as true, even
when others showed them the

Compare And Contrast Relative Dating And Radioactive Dating
There is multiple ways to determine the age of fossils. Two well known techniques are relative
dating and radioactive dating. Even though they are similar, they both come at the situation a
different way. They are both different and they have their own techniques. Relative dating uses the
location within the rocks layers. Radioactive dating uses information that they gather from the
decay of radioactive substances within an object. What s the difference in relative and radioactive
dating? All though, both of these techniques are used for the same thing, they are very different
from each other. They both use different types of things to measure how old the fossils are.
Radioactive dating is something that people use to determine the age of rocks.... Show more content

They were able to learn about dinosaurs and how old they were and when they were discovered
by radioactive dating. Radioactive dating allows scientist to record things in the past. In order to
do this, they have to use the ratios of isotopes to determine the age of the rocks and fossils. Some
chemicals that they use in radioactive dating are Carbon, uranium and potassium. Each one of
these elements are made up of atoms. In each atom, there is a nucleus. Inside of that, we find a
neutron, and when they become unstable, they let go of energy. When they let go of this energy,
it is called radioactivity. It occurs when the nucleus has an excessive amount of neutrons. The
variation of neutrons are called isotopes. Isotopes are a form of an element that are unstable.
When going through radioactivity, the unstable isotopes break down and form a new element.
The isotopes are never destroyed but they turn into something else. As far as the accuracy goes,
people are proven to believe that this is a very accurate method. They say this because radioactive
dating is based on radioactive decay of unstable isotopes. They have ways of proving that this
method is in fact correct and very accurate. They say that radioactive

Essay on Karl Popper s Falsifiability
Karl Popper s Falsifiability
Sir Karl Popper s lecture was very thought provoking concerning where to draw the line. Unlike
most people, the validity of the theory was not his concern as much as how that validity is
determined. This is an issue that really does not get the attention that it deserves. Popper s claims
concerning, When should a theory be ranked as scientific? and Is there a criterion for the scientific
character or status of a theory? seems to be put together in the following summary.
At first Popper seems to just be criticizing the integrity of some sciences and/or scientists who
nebulously back their vague and general theories with references to observations that may be
inconclusive or scanty which they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first half of Popper s lecture seems to coincide with Thomas Kuhn s historical account of
science. Kuhn speaks of the old astronomical theories held and how they resemble many types of
theories today. They were believed for the same reasons: they provided plausible answers to the
questions that seemed important (Kuhn p.3). Kuhn, however, would agree with Popper that
theories must go beyond the content of observation; that it was psychological factors that led the
early scientists to group up observations into a systematic formula.
Basically, with every hypothesis, conjecture, observation, etc. I have read about in Kuhn goes to
every extreme to avoid any type of test that might refute their claims. The limited observations that
they did make could always be interpreted into the theory. What was worse was that those
observations that did not fit into the theory were viewed as only apparent observations (Kuhn p.39).
Maybe this is another factor involved as to why Copernicus was revolutionary. He did not follow
this precedent. Copernicus was not the only one. Many had also refuted Aristotle s views
concerning laws of motion (Kuhn p.83). When observable falsifying evidence is present Kuhn
agrees that the conceptual scheme must then be abandoned and replaced. However, a good
distinction is made here. Conceptual scheme is a much better rendering than theory. Much like
what I would call a world view the way we

They challenge concepts that most people would assume as innate and intuitive, namely the validity
of the empirical world that surrounds them. Descartes begins his Meditations of First Philosophy
with his deconstruction, a process in which he uses ultimate skepticism to demolish all of his
preconceived notions about reality hoping to then construct a new, unbiased epistemological system
atop an underlying fundamental axiom. In his deconstruction, he realizes that all [he] has ...
accepted [with] ... the highest truth and certainty, [he] received from ... the senses. This worries
Descartes, as realizes that he might be a madman whose mind tricks him into having vivid, but
ultimately imaginary experiences. Descartes comes to the conclusion that senses [are] mislead[ing],
and thus, he rejects that the world around him is inherently true. Truman arrives at a similar
conclusion after undergoing his own deconstruction. Throughout Truman s life, activists and fame
seekers alike had infiltrated Truman s world and tried to notify him of the nature of his existence.
Even though Truman was quickly escorted away from these outsiders and reassured that they were
insane, Truman nevertheless began to develop a subconscious paranoia that something was wrong

Words As Sweet As Honey From Sakhambi Short Story
The story Words as Sweet as Honey From Sankhambi is a story being retold by a children s book
specialist Linda Rode. Sankhambi plays a big part in many Venda folktales and is very alike to
Hlakanyana from Zulu Folklore. He takes on many different shapes and sizes in these tales but
one thing for certain is wherever he is there is always trouble. This story is about how monkeys
became tall, slender, quick, and nimble from being short, and fat. Back in the early days the
monkeys were fat, little, pot bellied animals that moved rather slowly. They were not nearly as
nimble or quick as they are today, and there body shape was much different. Sankhambi had a lot of
fun sneaking up behind the monkeys and pulling their tails. Obviously the monkeys were not too
happy about this and would throw seeds and bits at him from high in the tree tops while he lay there
basking in the sun. Sankhambi hated the monkeybusiness and one day he decided that he was
going to put a stop to it. He approached the monkeys and said in his sweetest voice that he
wanted to tell his dear monkey friends a big secret. The eldest monkey called out to the other
monkeys not to listen to him, because it was just another one of his wicked tricks. Sankhambi
begged and pleaded the monkeys to listen to him for this very special event. Monkeys are naturally
curious animals so they slowly began to climb down the tree to listen to Sankhambi. Sankhambi

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Hero Research Paper
In tragedy, the tragic hero is the protagonist who possess a weakness that leads to his destruction
and suffers due to his errors. Even though the hero goes through a terrible defeat, his suffering gives
humanity an opportunity to validate itself and display redeeming qualities. Three main theories of
the tragic heroare the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero.
Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis,
and suffering. In the Shakespearean mode of tragedy, the play Romeo and Juliet models the tragic
hero. For instance, nobility is characterized by being upper class and having elevated character.

Marriage isn t considered a marriage even if it is the law of the land. Marriage is very old it was
defined between Adam and Eve. Former gay Pastor Donnie McClurkin said, No matter what my

woman. So someone who has attractions to the same sex, but understand the concept of marriage

The sense of pride and the concept of rainbows has been changed. Pride and the rainbow are very

symbolism to it. In the bible a rainbow appears right after the flood to remove sinful and evil

Essay on Mass Media Coverage of Presidential Election
Mass media coverage of the U.S. presidential election involves two key elements news reporting
and paid advertising. Combined they make the media an important and influential factor in the
election process. The media depends upon the campaigns for both news and revenues. The
candidates then rely upon the media to get in touch with the largest number of voters possible. The
Media has a very powerful and justifiable role
(Fullerton 1) to play in presidential elections and can actually dictate a campaign agenda. It is the

Such shows really impact the viewing audience due to the voters chance at speaking directly to the
candidate and expressing their own views. (Gorin 1)
The presidential debates are probably the most important media events covered in a campaign
because voters can see how candidates react in stressful situations and can read numerous articles
analyzing the debate after they occur. The debates basically allow the candidates to go head to head
with one another and see who can handle themselves more efficiently and who has the most going
for them.
As far as coverage, newspapers usually provide more material to the campaign than does
television, due to the large amount of reporters able to cover the campaign as well as less cost and
time restraints as TV.
Newspapers also have the benefit of corrective journalism (Gorin 2).
Instead of printing a candidate s statement one day, an oppositions rebuttal the next and a related
opinion piece the third day, journalists have the capability to include charges, countercharges,
background research and analysis all in the same article.
However, Louis Wolfson, a professor at American University says In a larger sense, I don t think
the media sent the agenda for a campaign he said.
I think the politicians do, because they try to campaign on the issues they are going to be most
successful with and to avoid the ones

Mental Health Act Analysis
The first piece of legislation which supported individual with mental health was the Mad House
Act (1774). This piece of legislation was ineffective as it resulted in negative outcomes for
individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as they were treated in an undignified way in
cramped and unsubstantial conditions being viewed by the public for a penny. However, the
Lunacy Act (1845 1930) was a more positive outcome, making it a legal requirement for county
owned asylum to be inspected and had to have licenses for best practice and to promote the rights
of the patients within and outside the facility, although, this was not the case in some facilities
where failure and low morale caused negative impacts to the patients treatments (Lester, 2010).
Furthermore, in the 1900 s the Mental Deficiency Health Act came into implementation in (1913
1938) where children and vulnerable adults would have been placed institutional settings, until the
amendment to the Mental Health Act (1959). This act abolished the categories of legal distinction
of mental health and prevented those who did not need to go for example, a mother who is unwed
and had repeated amount of children as they were seen to be defective (Pilgrim, D, 2014). The

Letter From The Fringe
Robin Williams once said No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the
world. This quote shows that when someone says something to you either nice or not, it can
change a person s thought about themselves. Just like the character Sally. A Letter from the
Fringe (Joan Bauer) tells about a girl named Sally that got bullied and was made fun of because
of her weight. Towards the middle of the story you can see that Sally was changing she was more
upset about herself wanted to lose weight then to enjoy food. But as we get into the end of the
story you can see that she changed and was happy about herself again and that being different was
okay. Joan Bauer short storyA letter from the Fringe uses the Fringes table to separate... Show more

She tried to hide it on the outside but was really hurt on the inside. For example in the text it
states, But more important, said Ed Looper, plunking his lunch tray down, is you can t seem like
a victim. I don t seem like a victim! Sally insisted. She did, though. Bad posture. Flitting eye
contact. Mumbles a lot. These examples supports the topic because it shows that Sally was really
hurt and trying to make it like nothing ever happened between Booker and her. This also supports
this paragraph because she changed to a very happy person in the beginning and now upset and
feels like she needs to lose weight. My second example is, that she is too upset to talk to anyone
around her. For example in the text it states, I just want to ignore those people, she said sadly to the
group. Can you do it, though? I asked her. She shrugged, mumbled, looked down. This shows that
the bullying really got to her and she feels like she doesn t have anybody standing next to her to
help and support her. She also feels that if she won t talk to them nothing will ever happen to her
again if she doesn t do anything and lay eye contact. In conclusion, this shows how upset Sally is in
the middle of the story and shows that she doesn t feels part of anything

Was Canada An Independent Country
Canada was not always an independent country but through many important historical events,
Canada was able to become the independent country that it is now. Canada had started off as one
of the many colonies of Great Britain, and slowly proved to the world that they weren t just a
colony, but much more. Overtime, canadians were gaining more and more power and were being
recognized as formidable by others due to the key events that had happened throughout history.
Some of the key events that I am going to talk about are The Battle of Vimy Ridge, The Statute of
Westminster, NATO, The Nuclear Debate, as well as NAFTA.

Canada, Mexico and the United States were all involved in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade
Agreement. This agreement had really helped improve Canada s economy and raised the
standards of living in Canada. NAFTA had also proved itself to be a solid foundation to building
Canada s prosperity which is good for Canada s independence as well (North, 1). After the free
trade agreement, there were many positive effects in the Canadian economy. John F. Kerry, an
American politician had once said, NAFTA recognizes the reality of today s economy
globalization and technology. (John, 1) This agreement states that Canada is helping in globalizing
the economy of not only America but Canada and Mexico as well. In this case, the agreement is
improving and benefiting the Canadian economy very well which is great for Canada s
independence. It shows that Canada can make its own decisions with other countries to benefit their
own country in many ways economic wise as well as independence wise. This also shows that
although Canada and America are important trading partners, it doesn t necessarily mean that one
country is a step behind the other. It means that if they work together, they can benefit each other

Comparison of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings and The Handsomest Drowned Man
The old man from the story A very old man with enormous wings and Esteban from the story The
Handsomest drowned man in the world are opposites of each other, maybe the only similarity
that they have is that they are both flat and static characters. First, they are different in terms on
how they are portrayed. The old man who is an angel, was portrayed as an ugly old man who doesn
t even resemble an angel. We can see this in paragraph 2, He was dressed like a rag picker. There
were only a few faded hairs left on his bald skull and very few teeth in his mouth... While Esteban

While, Esteban who is just an ordinary person and at the same time a dead man, was portrayed
as a good looking guy, We can see this in paragraph 4, Not only was he the tallest and strongest,
most virile, and best built man they had ever seen, but even though they were looking at him
there was no room for him in their imagination . What s ironic here is even though he is a
drowned dead man who is supposed to be portrayed as a man full of anguish, he is still portrayed
as a good looking as peaceful looking man. And even though he is already, many women still
fantasize him.
Lastly, the old man, who is an angel, symbolizes Jesus Christ. The old man and Jesus Christ are
very much alike. They are both doubted by the people around them even though they had already
performed many miracles that no ordinary human can do. They are also both mistreated by people
despite of their power. In paragraph 4, tossing him things to eat through the openings in the wire as
if weren t a supernatural creature but a circus animal . From this line, we can conclude that the
angel was treated like a freak show by the people. The same as Jesus Christ, he was tortured by the
soldiers even though it is clear to them that he is a supernatural being.

The Case Of Trayvon Martin Vs. George Zimmerman

African American, male was shot and killed within 70 yards of the home in which he was
residing in at the time, located at Retreat at Twin Lakes Gated Community in Sanford, Florida, by
George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman was a 28 year old Hispanic male, who was a
neighborhood watchman for the Retreat at Twin Lakes Gated Community in Sanford, Florida. E
George Zimmerman had previous experiences with watching the neighborhood in the prior months
when he saw some other crimes that had taken place, a few that were noted by Zimmerman, they
were burglaries of homes being broken into by African American males. However, the suspects of
those crimes were not caught because they were either scared off by police or they had already
gotten away prior to authorities getting to the scene. A In Zimmerman s statement, he voiced
concern for the community that he did not like that nothing could be done about these crimes and
that the suspects were getting away. It would not be presumptuous to say that Zimmerman was
frustrated by these situations and that he could only sit by and watch as these crimes took place.
Zimmerman was instructed by the 911 operator when he called in to report a suspicious person , to
stay in his vehicle until authorities had arrived. Zimmerman disregarded the instructions by the

Essay on Abolishing Corporal Punishment in the United...
Corporal punishment is a discipline method in which an administering adult inflicts pain upon a
student (usually using a paddle) in response to a student s offensive behavior. Nowadays regulations
have been created as to how many swats can be inflicted, by whom, and with what instrument. It is
still used in many U.S. schools as a disciplinary method against disobedient or defiant students.
Although corporal punishmentis no longer tolerated in the military, prisons, or mental institutions,
21 states still allow corporal punishment in full or in part according to the U.S. Department of
Education. Every year, more than 223,190 students are being subjected to this particular form of

Not only are such messages thought to be wrong themselves, but it is claimed that they are
repeated by the children who are hit. In the short term, those who are physically punished are
alleged to commit violence against other children, against teachers and against school property. As
far as long term effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit
crimes were physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying
violence breeds violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that
all violence must be banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools.
(CS) Just because an official is promoting violence, instead of a student, does not make it okay.
Punishing a student with violence is taking the easy way out of the situation. It is like putting a
Band Aid over a cut for the quick and easy fix. It may be a way to create an immediate response,
but it is inhumane and for lack of a better word, lazy. So this leaves us with a choice; either we
continue taking the quick fix , or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No
one wants to treat children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the
long run .(DS) So we need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other
means of punishment.

Comparing Dynastic China And Ancient Egypt
Introduction:
Looking over the shoulder of history, Dynastic China and Egypt were perhaps two of the most
substantial, long lasting, and abiding civilizations. A dynasty is simply defined as a succession of
rulers from the same family. The ancient Egyptian dynasty was present from about 3100 to 332
BC. It was ruled in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Ancient dynastic China, which lasted from about
1000 BC to 500 AD, lay in the Yellow River Valley. It can be seen that both of these societies
shared quite a few cultural similarities. For example, in Egypt, as well as China, polytheism was a
dominant religious belief. Also, they were both primarily well developed in technology and tools.

But, they definitely were not limited to simply working the home. There were many professions
and jobs offered to women at the time. It also should be noted that the range of jobs that were
available for them were based on social class rather than gender. On top of working within the
home, attending to household chores and caring for their children, the lower class women of
the ancient Egyptian society also had the duty of working outside tending livestock and in the
fields, especially during harvest. Occupations such as skilled weavers, mourners, musicians,
stewards, composers, singers, dancers, beer brewers, and bakers were also accessible to women
of any social class. Educated or wealthy women were offered professional positions such as
administrators, priestesses, or supervisors. In some instances, they became judges, overseers,
governors, doctors, or even prime ministers because of their ability to read and write. If a
woman held the same job as a man, she received the same income and rations as a man received
for the work, and so her wages made an important contribution to the family s wealth. Unlike the
Egyptian women s broad range of career options, the average Chinese women s work centered
primarily on the home. Tasks such as preparing food, cleaning and looking after children were the
norm for the majority of women in ancient China. They were expected to have many children and
most women felt the pressure to bear a son. It was common for women to take up manual labour in
the home. Spinning, weaving and sewing were common occupations. Some peasant women worked

The Death Of Dolgushov
The short story The Death of Dolgushov by Isaak Babel is a gut wrenching story, at times literally,
about the dilemmas of killing. Babel, a master of the short story, challenges readers morality by
contrasting two soldiers plights. On the one hand, a soldier, Dolgushov, pleads that he has had it
(241), meaning that he wants his comrade to killhim after being mortally wounded by machine gun
fire; while on the other hand, another soldier, unnamed, cannot bring himself to kill Dolgushov.
Throughout the story, war is depicted as a gameuntil a soldier gets seriously hurt. This device,
combined with the vivid imagery associated with both soldier s plights, complicates how readers
judge the act of killing and war in general.

The exchange begins with the telephonist saying I ve had it...(Babel 241), to which Grishchuk
responds I understand (Babel 241). At first glance, it appears that the telephonist is replying to the
joke, however, in reality, Dolgushov is saying that he is injured and wants to be put out of his
misery, in other words, killed. If the real meaning in the exchange escaped the reader, the following
passage that reads: without taking his eyes off me, he carefully lifted his shirt. His stomach had
been torn out, his intestines were slithering down onto his thighs, and his heartbeats were visible
(Babel 241) would certainly clarify things. Although the entire story is about violence and death,
this scene is the beginning of the author s true intention which is asking the bigger question of how
to weigh moral dilemmas of killing someone, especially a comrade; which is asked through the
debate of whether someone, specifically, the unnamed soldier, but later Afonka, should kill
Dolgushov and why or why

Moneyball Psychology
In the film Moneyball, there are many different psychological concepts throughout it. The Oscar
nominated film is a visual adaptation of the book Moneyball, which was written by Michael
Lewis. Both the book and movie are based on the true story of the 2002 Oakland A s season and the
life of their general manager Billy Beane, who decides to play professional ball instead of going
to Stanford University. Later Beane becomes a general manager of a low budget team. Beane,
played by Brad Pitt, has one of the cheapest budgets in baseballand must take a different approach,
then most other general managers, in order to build his team. By doing this, Billy Beane creates a
new blueprint for winning the game of baseball. Beane s success influenced... Show more content

A well defined problem is a problem with the clear description of the start state, goal state, and
the progressions for reaching the goal state. The approach Billy takes to make this happen is by
changing the way people view the road to success in baseball. To do this, Billy used Bill James
algorithm to signs players he believes are undervalued by the league. In the movie, there is a
scene where Billy is asking all the scouts, what s the problem? The scouts all respond by telling
Billy the team needs to replace Giambi, Damon, and Isringhausen. However, Billy knows that s not
the real problem. The real problem that the scouts couldn t figure out was that Billy was trying

Things don t start to turn around for the team until Billy trades clubhouse problem, Jeremy
Giambi, and all star first baseman, Carlos Pena. Billy didn t Jeremy Giambi attitude and the way
he acts off the field, which is that he parties a too much. Also, Billy didn t how Carlos Pena was

with Hatteberg at first base than Pena. Billy and the A s do not go on to win the 2002 World
Series, however, Billy was successful in his approach to his well defined problem and influencing

The Reflection Of Wes Anderson Film
You can tell you are watching a Wes Anderson film instantly the minute everything takes the
shape of an animated painting, each shot is so meticulously designed if it were to be paused in
the middle it would assume the aesthetics form of an artwork. Like an illustration every, patch of
color and screen direction is chosen with the same amount of care put into the script itself. His
work as a director is entirely unique, each of his films has a look and feel that is unmistakably his
and can be recognized from the start. Symmetry and color are the two distinct characteristics every
one associates with a Wes Andersonfilm. But beyond mere aesthetics in detail and what some
would call an obsessive OCD, his themes deal with nostalgia and situations dealing with the
troubled family dynamic. At the heart and root of it all Anderson s personal history is perceived
and ideology that is clearly influenced by his childhood. In this article, I will address how
through the uniquely storybook and whimsical comedic tones of Wes Anderson films he is able
to show the foils and limitations of estranged family relations and address personal subject
matters like loss and acceptance. Mise en scene quite literally means, staging of the scene. It is a
term adapted from the theatre and refers to everything the audience will view and hear on stage,
when applied to film it is everything the audience sees hears and experiences while viewing it.
Mise en scene can be categorized as the most

The Modern State Concerns The Concept Of Property
A core aspect of the modern state concerns the concept of property. Whether property
encompasses objects, land, or even ideas, we have laws to define the process by which we can
justly gain ownership of certain things and to give us security once we hold this property, and a
judicial system to punish those who don t abide by the rules. But to what extent do we have a right
to property, and how do we justly obtain it? The British philosopher John Locke(1632 1704) argues
that the origins of private property are to be found in how we use our labour to appropriate things
to ourselves. Private property, for Locke, is pre political in the sense that it exist prior to the
creation of the state it is a natural right, not by convention. However,... Show more content on

The argument begins with the idea that God gave the world to all men in common, and reason so
that we can make the best use of it a precept derived from both reason and revelation. Yet, while
the world may be common, for Locke it is also clear that we have property in our own person,
and also in our own labour (Locke, 1980 [1689], sections 25 27). Following from this, that to
which we apply our labour in turn becomes our property: By utilising our labour in removing
something from the common, this object has, by this labour something annexed to it, that excludes
the common right of other men (ibid, section 17). So, by picking an apple from a tree or catching
a fish from a stream, I am joining to it my labour, something to which nobody else has rights to but
me, and thus it becomes my own private property. Furthermore, Locke argues that by tilling and
improving land, or enclosing areas of it, this too constitutes the just acquisition of property, subject
to the constraint that there is as much, and as good left for others (ibid).
Despite the apparent strength that one may see in this argument, particularly with regard to its
tight logical structure, if we look to Locke s concept of self ownership, which provides the
foundations for the subsequent theory of labour mixing, we can begin to see how the theory is
unsatisfactory. Key to Locke s idea of

  • 4. The Ph Of A Solution The pH of a solution is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration in the solution. It can be defined as the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH = log [H+] When the pH of a solution is below 7, it is an acidic solution. This means that there is a higher concentration of free H+ ions in the solution. When the pH of a solution is above 7, it is a basic solution and it means that there is a higher concentration of OH ions in the solution. This is because the bases tend to lose their electrons and bond with protons. So When the pH = 7, the solution is neutral. In other words, the acidity of the solution decreases with higher pH values. They play an important role in our life processes. The chemical reactions take place at a specific pH in our body and it is very vital to maintain that pH. When there arise some changes in the pH, this is where buffers come into play. For example, the carbonic acid base buffer helps to achieve the acid base balance in the blood. Buffers also help to maintain the homeostasis of the cells. Antacids help people with their heartburns, which are caused due to excess acid that tries to escape through the pyloric sphincter into the esophagus. This therefore causes heartburn. Antacids behave as buffers by neutralizing the excess acid present in the stomach. • 8. Education In Public Education Education has undergone many rhetorical and definitional changes since its creation; the explicit purpose of teaching the masses, particularly in the framework of public schooling, has varied from culture to culture. At its core, though, the aim is simple: to efficiently construct productive members of a society. This effort has to encompass so much of the values of said societies that it becomes impossible for educational institutions to avoid the influence of larger institutions. Within these constraints comes the effect of social reproduction. This institutional byproduct of education rooted in societal values guarantees that students who come from lower income backgrounds are fated to experience this existence as adults, whereas students from higher income families have the advantages to follow in the footsteps of their parents. Without deeply studying and working to reverse social reproduction, our current educational system is the story of history repeating itself. In the humble beginnings for early American understandings, public education was designed to create productive citizens in part by mollifying any potential class conflicts. According to Horace Mann s conceptions of public schooling for the country, providing a uniform education meant providing equal opportunity for all. If the lower class thought that their students had the opportunity to succeed like the rich did, they would be much less likely to rebel against the systems currently in place (Brick 2005). ... Understanding The Core Variables That Affect Our Lives Essay Aging, although a quite evasive and rather frightening thought, is an inevitable process that occurs to every form of life, regardless of genetic makeup or origin, and it is a fundamental mechanism in which our universe/cosmos is able to fuel itself with and ultimately flourish on. It is simply invariable, in order for there to be creation and rebirth, there needs to be the set process that eventually leads to death and reconversion in a perpetual system/method of sustenance. Understanding the core variables that affect these processes are essential because they allow us to gain a deeper insight into what it means to age, both physically and mentally, but more importantly, how to live our current lives to ensure a happy, gratifying, and fuller existence. For my Aging Process assignment, I have chosen to interview my grandfather Joe Pacheco. He is a currently retired man who is approximately 84 years of age, and presently resides in sunny Thousand Oaks, California. The reader is asked to extrapolate much of the information in an indirect fashion. The reader must look into the symbolism and imagery used alongside the words the characters share and don t share. The natural landscapecovers almost the entire story, offering vivid images that contain a large amount of interpretive insight into the story. The setting puts the couple at a crossroads, a stopping place in their journey through not just Spain, but through their lives as well. Though the exact location of the train stationis not given, it is often thought to be in Zaragoza, Spain. The trainstation is a midpoint between their past time together and the future time that they will move toward when they leave on a train. Train stations, airports, bus stations, and ports give us a sense of transition, of being between worlds, and between experiences. Placing the stage for the drama in such a locale really grabs the reader s attention and drives further symbolism in the story. Joseph Urgo points this out in his writing quite well by stating the junction where the train will stop in the story is not just the meeting of the Barcelona and Madrid lines, but the clash of male and female sources of power and authority. Such shows really impact the viewing audience due to the voters chance at speaking directly to the candidate and expressing their own views. (Gorin 1) The presidential debates are probably the most important media events covered in a campaign because voters can see how candidates react in stressful situations and can read numerous articles analyzing the debate after they occur. The debates basically allow the candidates to go head to head with one another and see who can handle themselves more efficiently and who has the most going for them. As far as coverage, newspapers usually provide more material to the campaign than does television, due to the large amount of reporters able to cover the campaign as well as less cost and time restraints as TV. Newspapers also have the benefit of corrective journalism (Gorin 2). Instead of printing a candidate s statement one day, an oppositions rebuttal the next and a related opinion piece the third day, journalists have the capability to include charges, countercharges, background research and analysis all in the same article. • 23. Mental Health Act Analysis The first piece of legislation which supported individual with mental health was the Mad House Act (1774). This piece of legislation was ineffective as it resulted in negative outcomes for individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as they were treated in an undignified way in cramped and unsubstantial conditions being viewed by the public for a penny. However, the Lunacy Act (1845 1930) was a more positive outcome, making it a legal requirement for county owned asylum to be inspected and had to have licenses for best practice and to promote the rights of the patients within and outside the facility, although, this was not the case in some facilities where failure and low morale caused negative impacts to the patients treatments (Lester, 2010). Furthermore, in the 1900 s the Mental Deficiency Health Act came into implementation in (1913 1938) where children and vulnerable adults would have been placed institutional settings, until the amendment to the Mental Health Act (1959). This act abolished the categories of legal distinction of mental health and prevented those who did not need to go for example, a mother who is unwed and had repeated amount of children as they were seen to be defective (Pilgrim, D, 2014). This quote shows that when someone says something to you either nice or not, it can change a person s thought about themselves. Just like the character Sally. A Letter from the Fringe (Joan Bauer) tells about a girl named Sally that got bullied and was made fun of because of her weight. Towards the middle of the story you can see that Sally was changing she was more upset about herself wanted to lose weight then to enjoy food. But as we get into the end of the story you can see that she changed and was happy about herself again and that being different was okay. Bad posture. Flitting eye contact. Mumbles a lot. These examples supports the topic because it shows that Sally was really hurt and trying to make it like nothing ever happened between Booker and her. This also supports this paragraph because she changed to a very happy person in the beginning and now upset and feels like she needs to lose weight. My second example is, that she is too upset to talk to anyone around her. For example in the text it states, I just want to ignore those people, she said sadly to the group. Can you do it, though? I asked her. She shrugged, mumbled, looked down. This shows that the bullying really got to her and she feels like she doesn t have anybody standing next to her to help and support her. She also feels that if she won t talk to them nothing will ever happen to her again if she doesn t do anything and lay eye contact. In conclusion, this shows how upset Sally is in the middle of the story and shows that she doesn t feels part of anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What s ironic here is even though he is a drowned dead man who is supposed to be portrayed as a man full of anguish, he is still portrayed as a good looking as peaceful looking man. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying violence breeds violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that all violence must be banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools. Ancient dynastic China, which lasted from about 1000 BC to 500 AD, lay in the Yellow River Valley. It can be seen that both of these societies shared quite a few cultural similarities. Occupations such as skilled weavers, mourners, musicians, stewards, composers, singers, dancers, beer brewers, and bakers were also accessible to women of any social class. Educated or wealthy women were offered professional positions such as administrators, priestesses, or supervisors. In some instances, they became judges, overseers, governors, doctors, or even prime ministers because of their ability to read and write. Tasks such as preparing food, cleaning and looking after children were the norm for the majority of women in ancient China. They were expected to have many children and most women felt the pressure to bear a son. It was common for women to take up manual labour in the home. The Reflection Of Wes Anderson Film You can tell you are watching a Wes Anderson film instantly the minute everything takes the shape of an animated painting, each shot is so meticulously designed if it were to be paused in the middle it would assume the aesthetics form of an artwork. Like an illustration every, patch of color and screen direction is chosen with the same amount of care put into the script itself. His work as a director is entirely unique, each of his films has a look and feel that is unmistakably his and can be recognized from the start. Symmetry and color are the two distinct characteristics every one associates with a Wes Andersonfilm. • 44. The Modern State Concerns The Concept Of Property A core aspect of the modern state concerns the concept of property. Whether property encompasses objects, land, or even ideas, we have laws to define the process by which we can justly gain ownership of certain things and to give us security once we hold this property, and a judicial system to punish those who don t abide by the rules. But to what extent do we have a right to property, and how do we justly obtain it? The British philosopher John Locke(1632 1704) argues that the origins of private property are to be found in how we use our labour to appropriate things to ourselves. Private property, for Locke, is pre political in the sense that it exist prior to the creation of the state it is a natural right, not by convention. However,... The argument begins with the idea that God gave the world to all men in common, and reason so that we can make the best use of it a precept derived from both reason and revelation. Yet, while the world may be common, for Locke it is also clear that we have property in our own person, and also in our own labour (Locke, 1980 [1689], sections 25 27). Following from this, that to which we apply our labour in turn becomes our property: By utilising our labour in removing something from the common, this object has, by this labour something annexed to it, that excludes the common right of other men (ibid, section 17). So, by picking an apple from a tree or catching a fish from a stream, I am joining to it my labour, something to which nobody else has rights to but me, and thus it becomes my own private property. Furthermore, Locke argues that by tilling and improving land, or enclosing areas of it, this too constitutes the just acquisition of property, subject to the constraint that there is as much, and as good left for others (ibid). Despite the apparent strength that one may see in this argument, particularly with regard to its tight logical structure, if we look to Locke s concept of self ownership, which provides the foundations for the subsequent theory of labour mixing, we can begin to see how the theory is unsatisfactory. Key to Locke s idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
