This log book documents the process of creating digital composites for three assignments. For the first assignment, tattoos are touched up and assessed before and after. For the second, the artist aims to depict vastness and solitude using textures at different scales. Concepts and rejected concepts are presented. For the third, the process of photographing students in costumes and compositing them into amusing everyday scenes is documented, with work-in-progress and final images shown for scenes of Catwoman, Super Girl, and Wonder Woman.

9. Assessment 2 -
I want to concentrate on depicting vastness and space
using natural textures and the contrast of the very large
and the very small.
The mood of the song I wish to capture is the loneliness
and solitude of the creature Bahamut.
• Abstract, focus on texture, shape, pattern and line.
• Suggestive of extreme close up of cells or tissue. Things like fur, scales or the iris of
the eye. Finding things in real life to photograph that represent these structures to
connect to the idea of earth. Playing with the concept of immensity. Perhaps mix in
the contours from satellite photos of earth.

11. Reviewers have described the song as “Ageless”, “Primeval” and “Otherworldy”. I
think this is best reflected in modern Indigenous Australian Art which is still
intricately connected with the spiritual roots of their beliefs. Their use of line and
symbolism is what I wish to emulate.

17. Almost Final Concept
I have taken the best texture out of
my design and altered it. At first I
was worried it was too simplistic
but I like it the most and I think it
meets my plan goals.
I am annoyed that so much work
is essentially being discarded, but
thats the nature of this type of
work I think.

18. Final Submission
I have added colour and dodged
and burned the last design to this
result. I love that it is a natural
texture that is altered to look
cosmic and nebulous. This meets
with my goals of contrasting the
very large with the very small. The
initial texture was of tree bark,
which is still recognisable if you
concentrate.
The font is printed across the
whole thing, and if I was printing
this as a cd cover for real, I would
have it printed as a tactile ink
above the surface of the paper.
The single ‘Bohemood’
emphasised in the corner, evokes
the emotion of loneliness and
solitude as mirrored in the song.

Idea Proposal
• Highly processed illustrative work.
• I want to create 3 pieces with a common theme. Each will be a picture of a
superhero doing something mundane with their super powers. I think this will create
an ironic and amusing picture.
• I will be hiring costumes and have 3 students agreeing to model for me. I will be
using the room 210 to shoot them in using the redhead lights(I was told we are not
able to use the studio).

frisbee to a dog in a park.
• Super Girl - Super Girl is at a park BBQ. A plate of uncooked sausages on one side
and a plate of cooked ones on the other. She is holding a pair of tongs with a
sausage in it. She is cooking the sausage with her laser vision.
• Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman is flying home in the sky. She is carrying the
shopping home. In her other hand is her receipt that she is looking at. The bag
behind her is broken and some groceries are falling out.
