The document discusses the locations, props, models, and costumes used in creating a magazine. For locations, a dark room at a sixth form college was used for photos of Jessica for its equipment and flexibility. Photos of Derry were taken in the author's kitchen for accessibility and blank walls. The only prop was a chair used for posing Jessica. Jessica was chosen as a model to represent the magazine's target audience interests. Derry was initially considered for the cover but was deemed inappropriate, so he appears in the contents. Casual clothing was chosen for both models to contrast with the magazine's upper-class image in a way that intrigued readers.
2. Location
The location I used when making my magazine was East Norfolk Sixth Form College. When taking
my photos of Jessica I used a spare dark room which had lights, a white back-drop and enough
space to be able to take the pictures in the poses I wanted. As well as having the right
equipment in the room I decided to use this location because it was open at all times and I could
spend as much time as I needed in their taking photos whether it be in the lesson or not.
The other location I used was my kitchen. When taking photos of Derry I decided to use my
kitchen as it was accessible to me whenever I wanted it, also my kitchen has empty blank walls
so I knew it would be easy to edit the background out on the photos if I needed to.
3. Props
The only prop I used when taking my photos was a chair. The chair was used because I wanted to
get Jessica posing different so I could decide which would work best for my front cover. Overall I
decided to use as less props as possible because I felt like some or loads of props would make
the front of my magazine look cheap (this was not the look I was going for). Also I thought if I
used an obvious prop on a photo on or in my magazine it would draw attention more to the prop
instead of what I wanted the reader to see; the image itself.
4. Models
Jessica: I chose Jessica as a model because even though she is a little diverse for my target
audience she represented someone who cares about their clothes and appearance (fashion
aspect of my magazine) and someone who is open to new ideas and concepts (music aspect of
my magazine). Jessica was also working on her own magazine and I felt with her extra
knowledge on media and target audiences she would be able to be more a like my target
audience in the way she presented herself.
Derry: I decided to take photos of my younger brother Derry, originally wanting him to be on my
front cover and to be focus of my feature article. Although because my magazine is directed at
women I decided it would be inappropriate and would make the target audience change slightly.
By still using Derry on the contents page I was able to make my magazine more directed at my
target audience. I used my brother as a model because I could take photos of him all the time
and would not have to rush and worry about getting the best one as I had many opportunities to
take pictures whenever I wanted.
5. Costume
I wanted to make sure both my models were dressed casually as I liked the idea of my magazine
being posh and upper class contrasting with casual clothing. Jessica wore an all in one leotard
with denim high waisted jeans and a black floral kimono. By wearing this it shows the reader she
has an interest in fashion and what's currently fashionable also the floral kimono allowed the
picture to have a different unusual look to it when I had edited the photo to be black and white.
Derry was dressed in jeans also and wore a t-shirt with ‘Los Angeles’ on it. By having on mostly a
plain design again it was easy for me to edit once the pictures were taken. Also by having a plain
look could make the audience think and imagine what they like about the models, therefore
intriguing them to find out more about them by reading the magazine. The blue t-shirt Derry
was wearing also looked trendy and simplistic, which is how I want my magazine to be viewed.
