Theory of Operations – Mass Flow
Three-wire platinum RTD measures
tube temperature on inlet side of
sensor
– Accurate to +/- 1.0oC
– Available as additional process variable
Flow Calibration factor captures the
proportional relationship between
flow and the measured phase shift
– Same factor for liquid or gas
– Linear over entire range
– Also contains the factor used with the RTD
measurement for temperature correction

Direct Density Measurement
Density measurement is based on the natural frequency
– As the mass increases, the natural frequency of the system decreases
– As the mass decreases, the natural frequency of the system increases

Water massflow test at the Ede plant at
20oC, plus water density tests
between 20oC and 55oC to determine
the unique DT and calculate FT from
DT. No field calibration is required.
Liquefied natural gas or LNG is natural gas natural (primarily methane , CH4) that has been
converted to liquid form for ease of storage or transport.
Liquefied natural gas takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas at a stove burner tip. It
is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.
The liquefaction process involves removal of certain components, such as dust, helium, water,
and heavy hydrocarbons, which could cause difficulty downstream. The natural gas is then
condensed into a liquid at close to atmospheric pressure (Maximum Transport Pressure set
around 25 kPa by cooling it to approximately −162 °C.
The reduction in volume makes it much more cost-efficient to transport over long distances
where pipelines do not exist. Where moving natural gas by pipelines is not possible or
economical, it can be transported by specially designed cryogenic sea vessels (LNG carriers)
or cryogenic road tankers.

Choice of technologyChoice of technology
Study of two different technology
1. Turbine (volume)
2. Ultrasonic (volume)
3. Coriolis (Mass)
Choice of technology
• Coriolis – Mass flow
• Easy installation, start-up and no moving parts
• Its direct Mass and Density (quality) measurement
• Energy value direct from mass
• Lower risks of measurement uncertainty
• Lower OPEX compaired to volume flow technologies
Choice of supplier
• Micro Motion (and Rosemount flow – Vortex)
• Micro Motion gives the end customer experiences of earlier solutions
• Micro Motion gives the best accuracy measurement
• Micro Motion gives the best Smart Diagnostic from the meters
• Micro Motion gives Smart Meter Verification - Self Checking Features at -200 gr C
Storage capacity:
•20.000 m3
•9.260 ton
•126 GWh
