The Internet was brought online in 1969 under a contract from ARPA to connect four major university computers, growing to include MIT, Harvard and others by 1970-1971. It allows millions of computers worldwide to connect for research, communication, entertainment and work, but also enables access to pornography, viruses and inappropriate content.
