Originally: group of smaller independent British Tour Ops & Bars. Larger operators subsequently invited
Purpose: to raise awareness & lobby UK and Euro Governments re impacts of Brexit
Recently: a potential industry response to French secondment issues
Future: a recent survey of members gave strong support to SBIT becoming formalised

SECONDMENT OF WORKERS IN TOURISM TO FRANCE
• In March 2018, the French Ministry of Labour informed a number of the large tour operators that they
intend to challenge the right of foreign tour operators to second staff to France.
• Significant impact on British Outbound Tourism industry.
• Recent inspections suggest a closer scrutiny of tour operators by the authorities in France
• SBIT proposed industry response: “a secondment legal shield” to cover any legitimate UK
companies that are challenged on the principle of secondment
• SBIT also drawn up an industry “code of conduct” which companies wanting to be covered by the
legal shield must abide by. The code of conduct reflects current French Law
• SBIT hosted a workshop (Mon 10th Sept) to assist companies in ensuring they are compliant 32

SECONDMENT OF WORKERS IN TOURISM TO FRANCE • In March 2018, the French Ministry of Labour informed a number of the large tour operators that they intend to challenge the right of foreign tour operators to second staff to France. • Significant impact on British Outbound Tourism industry. • Recent inspections suggest a closer scrutiny of tour operators by the authorities in France • SBIT proposed industry response: “a secondment legal shield” to cover any legitimate UK companies that are challenged on the principle of secondment • SBIT also drawn up an industry “code of conduct” which companies wanting to be covered by the legal shield must abide by. The code of conduct reflects current French Law • SBIT hosted a workshop (Mon 10th Sept) to assist companies in ensuring they are compliant 32
