Rising ocean temperatures due to climate change are negatively impacting ocean forests and their biodiversity in three main ways:
1. Ocean forests are being damaged by increased heat waves and are shifting poleward to cooler waters. This is leading to loss of habitat and declines in species abundance.
2. Genetic diversity of ocean forest species is threatened as climate change endangers glacial refugia that harbor much of their genetic variation. This reduces forests' ability to adapt and recover from stress.
3. Changes in species distributions are altering the composition of ocean forests. Warming is allowing tropical species to move poleward while decreasing the diversity of temperate algal turfs and replacing kelp forests with seaweed

Denver Water's key concern regarding its water supply was vulnerability to drought and a need to better understand long-term drought variability, causes, and impacts. To assess tree rings as estimators of river flow, Denver Water used empirical comparisons of tree-ring data to recorded streamflow in the Colorado River. These comparisons demonstrated a strong correspondence between tree growth and measured river flow, indicating tree rings were a skillful proxy for estimating past river conditions.

The Larsemann Hills range is an ice-free oasis on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elizabeth
Land, East Antarctica, which includes Bharti Island, Fisher Island, McLeod Island, Broknes Peninsula, Stornes
Peninsula, and several other islands, promontories, and nunataks. The Larsemann Hills is an ice-free area of
approximately 50 km2, located halfway between the Vestfold Hills and the Amery Ice Shelf on the south-eastern
coast of Prydz Bay, Princess Elizabeth Land, East Antarctica. The ice-free area consists of two major peninsulas (Stornes and Broknes), four minor peninsulas, and approximately 130 near shore islands. The Larsemann Hills area contains more than 150 lakes at different Islands and peninsulas. Bharti Island of Larsemann Hills in east Antarctica was selected as a sampling site for the present study. Water sample was collected from a freshwater lake during XXXth Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (ISEA) and analyzed for the physico-chemical parameters, major elements, trace metals and major plankton diversity in surface lake water by following standard methodology. The concentrations of metals Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn and Cr were measured using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Phytoplankton and zooplankton were also assessed in the aquatic ecosystem of Lake L3 at Bharti Island, Larsemann Hills over east Antarctica. Psychrophillic bacteria were found 71 cfu in lake water, while total bacterial count was found to be 5.4 × 102cfu.

Over three years, the study would tag and track gray whale migrations, intensively sample areas in and outside the migration zone before, during and after migrations, and test abiotic and biotic parameters to compare productivity with and without whale presence. Results are proposed to show either short or long term increases in productivity, or no effect.

Rising ocean temperatures due to climate change are negatively impacting ocean forests and their biodiversity in three main ways:
1. Ocean forests are being damaged by increased heat waves and are shifting poleward to cooler waters. This is leading to loss of habitat and declines in species abundance.
2. Genetic diversity of ocean forest species is threatened as climate change endangers glacial refugia that harbor much of their genetic variation. This reduces forests' ability to adapt and recover from stress.
3. Changes in species distributions are altering the composition of ocean forests. Warming is allowing tropical species to move poleward while decreasing the diversity of temperate algal turfs and replacing kelp forests with seaweed

Denver Water's key concern regarding its water supply was vulnerability to drought and a need to better understand long-term drought variability, causes, and impacts. To assess tree rings as estimators of river flow, Denver Water used empirical comparisons of tree-ring data to recorded streamflow in the Colorado River. These comparisons demonstrated a strong correspondence between tree growth and measured river flow, indicating tree rings were a skillful proxy for estimating past river conditions.

The ice-free area consists of two major peninsulas (Stornes and Broknes), four minor peninsulas, and approximately 130 near shore islands. The Larsemann Hills area contains more than 150 lakes at different Islands and peninsulas. Bharti Island of Larsemann Hills in east Antarctica was selected as a sampling site for the present study. Water sample was collected from a freshwater lake during XXXth Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (ISEA) and analyzed for the physico-chemical parameters, major elements, trace metals and major plankton diversity in surface lake water by following standard methodology. The concentrations of metals Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn and Cr were measured using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Phytoplankton and zooplankton were also assessed in the aquatic ecosystem of Lake L3 at Bharti Island, Larsemann Hills over east Antarctica. Psychrophillic bacteria were found 71 cfu in lake water, while total bacterial count was found to be 5.4 × 102cfu.

The Hydrology of high Arctic Lakes and Climate

This study aimed to estimate photosynthetic productivity of phytoplankton and water quality in two floodplain lakes of north Bihar, India. Gross phytoplankton productivity ranged from 1.849 g Cm-2day-1 to 4.994 g Cm-2day-1 at Tarawe chaur and 1.319 g Cm-2day-1 to 3.965 g Cm-2day-1 at Gamharia chaur. The net primary productivity measured as 1.037 g Cm-2day-1 to 3.849 g Cm-2day-1 at Tarawe chaur and 1.003 g Cm-2day-1 to 2.621 g Cm-2day-1 at Gamharia chaur. Primary productivity (GPP and NPP) of phytoplankton show a single annual peak. Respiration rates varied between 0.428 g Cm-2day-1 to 2.017 g Cm-2day-1 at Tarawe chaur and 0.489 g Cm-2day-1 to 1.475 g Cm-2day-1 at Gamharia chaur. Seasonal variation in phytoplankton gross and the net productivity was almost similar, highest in summer and lowest in winter. NPP/GPP ratio and respiration as percentage of gross production were computed. Physico-chemical parameters of water were analysed concurrently.

Pollution resulting from unsustainable agricultural and urbanization activities in the Ruhezamyenda and Bunyonyi catchments are threatening lake Bunyonyi. These have led to high chemical oxygen demand (COD), electrical conductivity, turbidity, pH, iron (II) concentration and low dissolved oxygen (DO5). In this study we have investigated the how COD, turbidity, pH, concentration of iron, total suspended solids, total nutrients and DO5 of water changed with distance in lake. Water sampled from different distances in the lake filtered using Whatman paper at ambient temperatures was tested for COD, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total nutrients, iron, hardness and DO5. COD was 20.8±.0.03mg/L to 16 ± 0.03mg/L; total hardness was 16.5±0.2 mg/L to 18.6 ± 0.3 mg/L total nitrate was 103.5± 2 mg/L to 88 ± 3 mg/L; total phosphate was 100.8 ±.2.5 to 87± 3 mg/L; high TSS values from 3.4 ± 0.1 mg/L to 2.5 ± 0.1 mg/L showed contamination of water. As pH decreased from 8.3 ± 0.03 to 7.6 ± 0.04 revealed that bases were getting removed. The turbidity dropped from 25.7 ± 0.3 NTU to 20 ± 2 NTU due settling down of sediments. Iron (II) concentration ranging from 1.1± 0.1 to 0.8± 0.1 mgL-1 . Dissolved oxygen decreased from 7.9 ±0.3 mg/L to 4.8 ± 0.2 mg/L indicating surface water can uphold life of aquatic organisms. Total hardness ranged from 0.22± 0.05 to 0.19± 0.05 mg/L Electrical conductivity was high and ranged from 130± 5 to 150± 5 µS/cm indicating presence of electrolytes. Lake Bunyonyi water is not greatly polluted, but requires to be safe guarded against poor unsustainable agricultural practices, sewage draining from towns, schools and hotels in nearby settlements.
ABSTRACT
This study measured the organic carbon stock in sediments within four species of seagrass beds in Gazi Bay, Kenya. Sediment cores were taken from vegetated and unvegetated sites within each seagrass species and analyzed for organic matter content at different depths. The results showed significantly higher organic matter content in vegetated versus unvegetated sediments for all species. Sediment organic carbon also varied significantly between species. The study demonstrates the important role of seagrasses in climate change mitigation through carbon storage and sequestration.

ABSTRACT
Variations in rainfall, increased mean surface temperature, persistent drought, reduced soil moisture and nutrient, and crop failures have all been evidently linked to anthropogenic-induced climate change, which impacts food security. Agricultural soils can be used to reduce atmospheric CO2 by altering the physicochemical composition of soil organic matter through biochar soil amendments. This study draws on current literature published online, in peer review journal articles, books, and conference proceedings to assess the implications of biochar soil amendments to enhance soil quality, while reducing atmospheric CO2 concentration. Building on the critical analytical approach, biochar use as soil amendments have been tested to have promising environmental potential, which improves soil quality and quantity thereby enhancing soil moisture status and reduces atmospheric CO2. Analyses of biochar amended soils in terrestrial ecosystems reduces about 12% of the total Carbon (C) emitted through anthropogenic land use change. Biochar amended soil systems are dependable in tracing and quantifying sequestered C and can stay in the soil for thousands of years. The challenge with biochar as soil amendments is the type of biomass that can yield high quality biochar through the pyrolysis process.
