Building Your Profile Sign up or log in to LinkedIn ( http://www.linkedin.com ) Turn off your public profile (settings    public profile) Customize your public profile URL Profile basics to get to 100%: Profile summary Current position TWO past positions Education Specialties (Use keywords!) Profile photo Three recommendations (minimum)
Building Your Profile Getting recommendations Find colleagues on LinkedIn and recommend them Reach out to your network by phone or e-mail Invite your contacts to join LinkedIn When your profile is essentially complete (85% or more) Turn ON your public profile (settings    public profile) Add LinkedIn URL to your e-mail signature & business cards Improve your profile – a work in progress Add applications -- post presentations, file sharing, reading list Add website links -- your company, your blog, your RSS feed
Expanding Your Network Your LinkedIn network consists of: 1 st  Degree Connections People to whom you are directly connected 2 nd  Degree Connections People connected to your 1 st  degree connections 3 rd  Degree Connections People connected to your 2 nd  degree connections People in your groups (not included in Network Statistics) Network Statistics are available in a drop-down under Contacts

Searching LinkedIn Company or Management Research Many companies have LinkedIn pages Look for hiring managers by name Learn some details to help establish rapport Within your network?  (1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd  degree or group) If so, request an introduction!  (or send a message) Find current and former employees Inquire about company culture, satisfaction Look for recruiters (Staffing & Recruiting Industry)
