In preparing for the AMLE 2015 National Conference my intent was to get
inspiration, and to find something I could use in class and also share with co teachers
I m in a unique position in that I teach at an online school, ECOT, and much of what
is presented at conferences applies well to a brick and mortar school, but needs
adaptation to work for my classroom and my students. I knew finding information to
meet my classroom requirements might not be easy. I also knew there were a few
sessions I was particularly interested in, for instance Cultivating Resilience and
Perseverance in Students with Rick Wormeli.
The energy during the General Session while Marcia Tate spoke inspired me to go to
her session Worksheets Don t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that
Engage the Brain. This session was amazing. She taught the session the same way
she was teaching us to teach in our classrooms. Not only did I realize I use many of
the techniques she employed, but I was forced to think about how I can use strategies
such as movement, and Cooperative Learning and Reciprocal Teaching in my online
setting. This first session with Marcia Tate had me looking forward to the afternoon
as I walked out of her session to meet with a coworker for lunch.
After lunch I attended the 3 hour workshop Talk, Move, and Mess Active Strategies

There are multiple examples and instances where the object of a joke has
something to do with gender and gender stereotypes. These types of jokes seem to
take center stage at any comedy performance or routine, and the audience loves it.
Gender in association with humor brings up a great deal of questions. Do males

view humor? And is there any truth to the thought that humans enjoy crass humor

Dance is not just about technique. It s about taking risks and making art come
alive. The pieces in Hofstra s Fall Dance Concert exemplified this notion through
their use of storytelling and unique choreography. Personally, my favourite piece
was Quadrabox . All of the dances drew me in, but Quadrabox left a lasting
impression. Quadrabox was choreographed and composed by Robert Benford and
Martha Patridge. At the show I saw, the piece began with two groups of four dancers
sitting in square formations on top of wooden boxes. The choreography itself
reminded me of both hand clapping games that kids play for fun and of the art of
stepping. This piece was interesting to watch because it was unconventional. It was
not at all what I was expecting to see. When the piece began, I caught myself
wondering if it really counted as dance. However, as it went on I realized that I was
using too narrow of a definition. The fact that I am not used to seeing something does
not discount it.
The costumes, designed by Meredith R. Van Scoy, were kept very simple. The
dancers wore black clothes and black or white shoes. This was most likely to ensure
that the audience primarily focused on the intricate choreography. The music came
from the beats the dancers made themselves with their clapping, stomping, and
moving the boxes. This piece was exciting to me because in order for it to work,

prison inmate, Shukhov, through a standard day in the gulag system. The novel
displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane conditions and how he
deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides insight
into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of
prisoners hold. By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a
platform from which he can bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise
monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an important role in the structure

the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day that

normal 21 year old. Going out with friends, having a good time and I was in my last

Do you know what function the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
actually serves? No, it is not so that people can go hunting or protect themselves
against personal assault. Neither is it a stupid, brainless provision that some
lamebrain slipped into the Constitution.
Like a shield of freedom, it is one of the primary reasons that the United States
Constitution still stands.
As one who is not a gun owner, I treasure the Second Amendment. It is one of our best
safeguards against tyranny, not from foreign governments, but from our own.
This amendment reads, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a
free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
The militia written of here is a volunteer army that basically provides its own
weapons. That is, these are soldiers who are already armed, who already have their
own guns.
In The Federalist Papers, the authors wrote of concerns that a standing army could
lead to tyranny (loss of freedom), so the Second Amendment was conceived in such a
way that the U.S. could have an army at need, and would not have to have a large
standing army. This was so that the national government would not threaten our

Recycling is always a great idea, but do we really need a law stating what color bin
it belongs in. Should we really be monitored on how much we are recycling? In my
opinion, it is our own right to have privacy in our grabage or recycling. I believe
that recycling is an amazing way to save our world from being destroyed down the
line. When people recycle, it not only gives the companies the material to burn down
the old used materials and use them over again, but it saves our enviorment from
looking trashy or destroyed. Although, there are many ways in changing what item
goes where, what should belong in a landfill, or what should be recycled, but this is
not one of them. Our privacy is what is important to alot of people.
