- Thank you ________ for your kind introduction, and Good morning friends and colleagues. Thanks to you all for taking time out to spend a few minutes with me discussing the future of our great university libraries. So “Addressing the Opportunities and Challenges facing university libraries in the 21st century,” a big question, and one I think about on a daily basis.
- Financial pressures: declining revenues, affordability pressures, publisher inflation, Student success: retention, accessibility, access Evolving research enterprise Scholarly publishing Collection management: print to digital, preservation, Print to digital and just in case to demand driven Inequity and injustice
- Most people when think of their university library, conjure up positive images of books, study tables and comfortable seating. These elements remain important to the modern library, but we also need to embrace innovation and constantly endeavor to redefine what our libraries are and what they can contribute to the priorities of our university. - This all provides opportunities for increased collaboration and engagement. Current important areas for outreach and engagement include the local business community, entrepreneurs and emerging makers.

- We have software development and technology strengths within our libraries. We’ve done great work optimizing the user experience for personal computing.
