This document contains discussion questions, assignments, and readings for a course on the relationship between the environment and the human spirit. It addresses topics like global warming, ecofeminism, deep ecology, environmental racism, and sustainability. For their final project, students must write a research paper and creative presentation on one of eight areas of environmental concern, like climate change, toxic waste, loss of species, or human consumption patterns.
A presentation prepared for the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity, June 6, 2018.
Event description: "Join the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity on Wednesday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as we answer Pope Francis’ call to 'each person on this living planet' to care for our common home. Because everyone’s home is different, creating effective campaigns around this initiative can be challenging. During this seminary, Assistant Professor of Journalism Jill Hopke of DePaul University will share insights from the latest social science research on how to design communication strategies that connect climate change to daily life and tips for choosing engaging climate visuals. Participants will get ideas for how to tell new narratives about the human toll of our changing climate, as well as for building community resiliency and climate hope."
28. Climate Change: Ethics and Collective Action ProblemsAdam Briggle
We explore climate ethics through the lens of collective action problems. We discuss Garret Hardin's "The Tragedy of the Commons" and two critiques of that seminal essay. We then wrap up by looking at Project Drawdown.

Abstract: Despite the seismic shifts of the last couple of decades with the introduction of the internet, scholarly publishing has remained basically unchanged. The Mertonian norms were established in 1942 when science was ‘under attack’, and today science is once more being questioned. It is time to return to our base principles. The open agenda offers a path not only to reproducibility and increased trust in research, but also addresses questions related to research culture, allowing a more diverse and inclusive environment.

This Final Paper is a discussion of the relationships between .docxjwilliam16
This Final Paper is a discussion of the relationships between the contemporary human, religious belief, and nature. The following question should guide your paper:
“Is the contemporary human fundamentally alienated from nature?”
Defend your answer to this question, and propose a course of action in response. If you believe most people today are alienated from nature, then analyze the root cause of the alienation, and defend your own solution for overcoming alienation. On the other hand, if you believe most people today are not alienated from nature, then
defend a hypothesis about why so many people falsely think we are alienated, and determine how you would convince them that we are not alienated.
Notice that the overarching question of alienation leads to other questions. As you think about your response to this prompt, consider using the following questions to guide your analysis and arguments. You need not answer all of them in writing, but it will be impossible to write a good paper if you have not at least thought through these issues.
What causes human separation from nature?
How ought the human spirit respond to nature and dwell within it?
What does it mean to say that something is natural, and how does the human fit into the larger web of natural relationships?
How does spirituality or religion lead to more harmony or greater fragmentation of the human with nature?
If we are still connected with nature, what are the attributes of those who are able to exist within nature while also dwelling within our technology-dependent society?
If we are not connected with nature, what are the attributes of our social, political, familial, and natural relationships that force such fragmentation?
What is the most appropriate ethical relationship the human ought to have with nature?
What are concrete methods humans can use to reconnect with nature or enhance their growing relationship with nature?
Are there some cultures that naturally connect more with nature? If so, what might we learn from those cultures if we are not part of them?
As you write your paper, explain your thesis about the primary topic. Think about how you will defend your position. Present arguments that support your own position while also engaging arguments that others might use to attempt to refute your position. Try to objectively put yourself in the place of someone who disagrees with your position and address the concerns of the other positions using factual evidence and logical reasoning. Remember that it is not enough to merely state the position. You must defend each position with evidence and argumentation.
The paper should be 8 to 10 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages - I'll complete the title page), and formatted according to APA style. Utilize at least eight scholarly sources throughout your paper to support your own original argument. These sources should come from the course materials as listed below:

Progressive Case Study-Client Report
Over the past 8 weeks, you have strategically built a learning plan for MacArthur and Associates. Your final step is to put together each section in a professional proposal format and include a recommendation section and a summary for the leadership team to review. Be sure that your proposal is free of errors and includes a list of references to back up your suggestions.
Your final part of the paper (summary and recommendations) should be a minimum of 2 pages. This will be added to the end of the proposal with each of the sections included from your previous weeks. Your final project combined should be a minimum of 16 pages (not including the title and reference page).
You will also combine all of your presentation materials to create a final overview presentation for presenting to MacArthur and Associates. Remember, you want them to be impressed with not only your knowledge, but your professionalism. Be sure to add slides for your recommendation and summary. Double check your work for error and submit to your instructor upon completion.
Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Please include citations to support your ideas.
Week 3, Reading Section 3.1: Introduction
I. Introduction
In Week 3, there will be three foci. First, you will revisit the theoretical discussions of Week 2, regarding the various forms of Egoism. As indicated, above, Egoism is not a single theory, but a collection of related ones, with different sources and roots from Ancient to Modern Times. Second, you will examine the sources and conduits of your own moral belief systems, against the backdrop of religion and secular society. In doing so, you should try to identify how your beliefs are similar to the beliefs of other cultures, not your own. Third, you will be required to discuss the first, substantive issue area, to formulate an Argument regarding that issue area, Global Warming and the Environment, applying the ethical/moral theories you have studied so far, and to defend your position.
Please remember that this is a Secular Morality and Ethics course, rather than a Comparative Religions or Theology course. As a result, using religious sources, per se, and claiming adherence to any particular religion will not be sufficient to support whatever philosophic arguments you make during the upcoming weeks. Here is one very important reason: invoking your own religious beliefs and their tenets will not demonstrate that you understand and can use the secular moral/ethical theories that you will be studying, thus undermining the purposes of the course.

Writing to Convince Essay (Position Essay)
English 10000 – Fall 2015
Writing Assignment
In the second major essay, you were asked to seek a modern social issue that interests you (perhaps
because of your major, a situation in your life, and/or other curiosity). Now that you have begun
researching that issue, you’re asked to identify a specific argument (typically done by finding a problem
to solve). Then, develop a solution (or at least a partial solution) to that problem and craft an argument
that convinces readers that your position on the issue is valid and workable. You may use information
and research from the rhetorical analysis assignment. Your argument must be related to your
professional or academic goals. These arguments need to be real and personal.
When you write to convince, you need to have
a specific purpose in mind,
a strong sense of your audience, and
an idea of what might be an effective way to convince that audience (rhetorical analysis)
In this essay, you need to take a stand on a controversial idea, issue, or practice and provide sufficient
evidence to support that stand, the goal being that your readers will consider changing their behaviors
or beliefs in order to solve a “problem.” Because argument asks for change, you cannot defend the
status quo (unless the status quo is being challenged.
Rhetorical Knowledge
Purpose
What exactly is your goal (x is so/x is good/x should be done)? What can you reasonably expect?
Rhetorical Situation
Your relationship as a writer to your audience, your subject, your purpose, and your motivation
(exigency) are all factors that must be taken into account.
Voice and tone
Tone is very important in convincing others to adopt your viewpoint – should you come across strong?
Subdued? Casual? Caustic?
Critical Thinking, Reading, and Writing Strategies
I. Craft a clearly stated, arguable claim – one that is reasonable and do-able.
II. Present your issue in a compelling way.
III. Be aware of your audience(s).
IV. Provide sufficient reasons AND evidence for those reasons.
V. Use rhetorical appeals effectively.
VI. Acknowledge and discuss other perspectives on the issue (counterargument).
VII. Conclude with a Call to Action (how individuals can act to solve the problem, a need for more
research/consideration, etc.).
Grading and Submission Guidelines
Your final draft should include at least five academic sources (but preferably six or seven—you
should already have at least two from the Rhetorical Analysis with Annotated Bibliography essay) and
should be:
Typed in Times New Roman 12 font and double-spaced
5-7 pages (not counting the Works Cited page)
In MLA format, including:
o in-text citations and a Works Cited page
o formatting for how to list your information on the first page
o use of header to note your last name and the page number

Peer review sheet Paper 1Writer’s name SiyuanReviewer’.docxherbertwilson5999
Peer review sheet: Paper 1Writer’s name: Siyuan
Reviewer’s name: Wendy
Directions: Put a check mark below if the statement is accurate for your peer’s paper. Then write a letter on this page or a page that you printed out giving some more suggestions for the paper.
____✓___ Introduction presents Rebekah Nathan (using her full name), the title of her book, her profession, and an explanation of her project.
(I would take out the very general first sentence. It doesn’t seem to belong with the rest of your paper. You can introduce Nathan right away.)
_____ Introduction states the one or two points from Chapter Four that the student writer is going to discuss and elaborates enough so the reader understands them.
(I don’t yet see a place in the introduction where you clearly state the points in Nathan that seemed interesting to you and that your paper will explore. I have to read the whole paper to see what points you cover.)
_____At the end of the introduction, the reader finds a thesis statement which expresses the writer’s main point for the whole paper.
(I don’t yet see a sentence that states your topic and your point of view on that topic.)
___?__ The body paragraphs each have just one main point, and that main point supports/relates to the thesis.
(I have a little hard time understanding what your main point is in some paragraphs. For example, on page 2, I don’t get a key point in the paragraph beginning with “On their side…” You write that American students ask lots of questions, though the students in Nathan said Americans are usually not curious about other countries. Do you want to say that your experience is different? But give examples, too.
That same paragraph ends with the idea of using computers, which I didn’t understand. How does it belong in the paragraph?)
✓? The conclusion is more than a summary of what the writer already wrote in his/her paper.
(Your conclusion does offer a new idea, but it is so optimistic (Americans and international students each continue to learn about each other’s cultures and their own), that is does not seem to match your paper. Your paper suggested, like Nathan’s chapter, that American’s don’t care so much about countries outside the U.S., that they don’t want to learn about other cultures! So I wonder which you really believe—the body of your paper or the conclusion?)
Siyuan,
You have a good beginning that introduces Nathan and tells the reader about her student interviews. But I still would like your intro to name which 1 or 2 points from Nathan you are going to address in your paper and what you want to say about those points. A thesis statement is useful for telling the reader these things. One student in our class did it this way: she wrote, “Like Nathan’s students, I was shocked at how little American students know about other cultures and disappointed to realize that they didn’t care much about learning.” (So now we know her opinion: she was shocked and disappoin.

Policy Briefs Instructions
For Modules/Weeks 3–7, you are expected to submit a 1 1/2–2-page paper (not including the title page, abstract, and reference page) in current APA format in which the May-Can-Should model is applied in the context of the policy focus in the assigned module/week. Be certain to emphasize a focused analysis of a particular issue chosen from the broader policy concentration for the assigned module/week. You must include citations from:
1. all of the required reading and presentations from the assigned module/week
2. all relevant sources from Modules/Weeks 1–2 (especially the "Biblical Principles of Government" article), and
3. 3–5 outside sources. NOTE: These sources should be focused on the problem and the piece of legislation, and you may find that you need more than just 3-5 sources to adequately research and discuss these items.
4. Please feel free to use the following link for the purposes of additional research.
Students often struggle with keeping the analysis needed for these policy briefs to just 2 pages of content at most (not counting the title page and references), and it can be hard to see past one's choice of wording to discover that there are indeed many ways to say the same thing with less words. Attached are "before and after" samples of the same policy brief; the first was too long and includes edits of how to shorten it, and the second shows the finished product at 2 pages. Review these before writing your first policy brief.
NOTE: the sample briefs are not perfect in every respect in terms of following the "May-Can-Should" analysis. It is mean to show you how to be more concise in communicating ideas.
Submit the appropriate assignment by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned module/week.
Ecologists have long endeavored to improve ecologi-cal literacy. This goal goes beyond informing stu-
dents about environmental issues: one must excite their
interest in ecological science, regardless of whether or
not they intend to pursue the more advanced technical
and mathematical education that modern ecology
requires (Golley 1998). The challenge is to motivate
people to tackle difficult ecological problem.

The Culture Divide
Prepare: For those with little understanding of the role of journalists in our society, the profession could be seen through a very small lens of one that is simply about reporting the facts. While there may be a bit of truth to this with regard to hard news coverage, cultural journalism is a much deeper phenomenon. This genre of journalism is more about understanding the connections and underlying factors for the news that we report on. Cultural journalism refers to writing and reporting that lends itself to the particular ways of life in a society, and it can encompass customs, ideologies, or art forms. We are finding that cultural journalism is quite popular among citizen journalists and those in community newsrooms who possess the time and interest to discover the connections. For this discussion, we will focus on cultural journalism from the perspective of community journalism. Read the At the Community Level: Cultural Competence and News Coverage of a City Neighborhood (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. article by Garyantes (2012).
Reflect: After carefully reading the article, consider your feelings on journalists in your own community demonstrating “cultural competence” in news reporting. Do you feel as though this is an important aspect of reporting? How might it impact news reports in your community?
Write: After considering the questions above, write a 250- to 300-word response that discusses how you feel about “cultural competence.” In your initial post, you must include at least one in-text citation from the reading material and an additional in-text citation from a scholarly source that you locate in the Ashford University Library or from another credible source. At the end of your post, include your name and a full reference for all sources cited in the body of your post. All citations and references must adhere to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
Check It! Your post must be submitted through Grammarly prior to submission.
Respond to Peers: After you have written your initial post, read the posts of your peers and respond to at least two others about their views on a journalist’s “cultural competence.” Your responses should address them by name, be between 100 and 150 words in length, and you must include your name at the end of each response.

Sinning is not a normal lifestyle for those people who believe in God. When we commit sin there is always an effect on us and the people around us. Sin takes away our ability to understand the truth in spirit. Christians always depend upon the Holy Spirit so that they may expect to learn permanent values of the spirit. Many believers assume that God loves them so much that He overlooks their indiscretions, lapses and little faults. However, in the eyes of the Lord regardless of how small it is, sin is sin. Eventually sin will always find you out.
In the beginning, there was no sin or evil in the earth. The entire earth was perfect (Koslowski, 2017). However, a time came when sin entered the world and their immediate consequences were catastrophic. Sin is a form of slavery to mankind (peels,2018). It is therefore important to study on how sin enslaves people. We also need to know the effects of our personal relationships with God when we sin. This would help us explore ways in which we can manage and maintain good relationships with our father. The study would also explain how sin causes death and how mankind can avoid it.
In this paper we will analyze the different forms of sin and its origin. We will also outline the Bibles’ view on sin and how it impacts our normal way of living and our relationship with God. There will be a section in this paper for the discussion of the wages of sin and provide numerous examples from the bible. Later, we will come up with ways in which mankind can manage to live a life without sin. We will then come up with a conclusion based on our topics of discussion listed above.

Pi coins is not launched yet in any exchange 💱 this means it's not swappable, the current pi displaying on coin market cap is the iou version of pi. And you can learn all about that on my previous post.
RIGHT NOW THE ONLY WAY you can sell pi coins is through verified pi merchants. A pi merchant is someone who buys pi coins and resell them to exchanges and crypto whales. Looking forward to hold massive quantities of pi coins before the mainnet launch.
This is because pi network is not doing any pre-sale or ico offerings, the only way to get my coins is from buying from miners. So a merchant facilitates the transactions between the miners and these exchanges holding pi.
I and my friends has sold more than 6000 pi coins successfully with this method. I will be happy to share the contact of my personal pi merchant. The one i trade with, if you have your own merchant you can trade with them. For those who are new.
Message: @Pi_vendor_247 on telegram.
I wouldn't advise you selling all percentage of the pi coins. Leave at least a before so its a win win during open mainnet. Have a nice day pioneers ♥️

US Economic Outlook - Being Decided - M Capital Group August 2021.pdfpchutichetpong
The U.S. economy is continuing its impressive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and not slowing down despite re-occurring bumps. The U.S. savings rate reached its highest ever recorded level at 34% in April 2020 and Americans seem ready to spend. The sectors that had been hurt the most by the pandemic specifically reduced consumer spending, like retail, leisure, hospitality, and travel, are now experiencing massive growth in revenue and job openings.
Could this growth lead to a “Roaring Twenties”? As quickly as the U.S. economy contracted, experiencing a 9.1% drop in economic output relative to the business cycle in Q2 2020, the largest in recorded history, it has rebounded beyond expectations. This surprising growth seems to be fueled by the U.S. government’s aggressive fiscal and monetary policies, and an increase in consumer spending as mobility restrictions are lifted. Unemployment rates between June 2020 and June 2021 decreased by 5.2%, while the demand for labor is increasing, coupled with increasing wages to incentivize Americans to rejoin the labor force. Schools and businesses are expected to fully reopen soon. In parallel, vaccination rates across the country and the world continue to rise, with full vaccination rates of 50% and 14.8% respectively.
However, it is not completely smooth sailing from here. According to M Capital Group, the main risks that threaten the continued growth of the U.S. economy are inflation, unsettled trade relations, and another wave of Covid-19 mutations that could shut down the world again. Have we learned from the past year of COVID-19 and adapted our economy accordingly?
“In order for the U.S. economy to continue growing, whether there is another wave or not, the U.S. needs to focus on diversifying supply chains, supporting business investment, and maintaining consumer spending,” says Grace Feeley, a research analyst at M Capital Group.
While the economic indicators are positive, the risks are coming closer to manifesting and threatening such growth. The new variants spreading throughout the world, Delta, Lambda, and Gamma, are vaccine-resistant and muddy the predictions made about the economy and health of the country. These variants bring back the feeling of uncertainty that has wreaked havoc not only on the stock market but the mindset of people around the world. MCG provides unique insight on how to mitigate these risks to possibly ensure a bright economic future.
USDA Loans in California: A Comprehensive Overview.pptxmarketing367770
USDA Loans in California: A Comprehensive Overview
If you're dreaming of owning a home in California's rural or suburban areas, a USDA loan might be the perfect solution. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers these loans to help low-to-moderate-income individuals and families achieve homeownership.
Key Features of USDA Loans:
Zero Down Payment: USDA loans require no down payment, making homeownership more accessible.
Competitive Interest Rates: These loans often come with lower interest rates compared to conventional loans.
Flexible Credit Requirements: USDA loans have more lenient credit score requirements, helping those with less-than-perfect credit.
Guaranteed Loan Program: The USDA guarantees a portion of the loan, reducing risk for lenders and expanding borrowing options.
Eligibility Criteria:
Location: The property must be located in a USDA-designated rural or suburban area. Many areas in California qualify.
Income Limits: Applicants must meet income guidelines, which vary by region and household size.
Primary Residence: The home must be used as the borrower's primary residence.
Application Process:
Find a USDA-Approved Lender: Not all lenders offer USDA loans, so it's essential to choose one approved by the USDA.
Pre-Qualification: Determine your eligibility and the amount you can borrow.
Property Search: Look for properties in eligible rural or suburban areas.
Loan Application: Submit your application, including financial and personal information.
Processing and Approval: The lender and USDA will review your application. If approved, you can proceed to closing.
USDA loans are an excellent option for those looking to buy a home in California's rural and suburban areas. With no down payment and flexible requirements, these loans make homeownership more attainable for many families. Explore your eligibility today and take the first step toward owning your dream home.

The European Unemployment Puzzle: implications from population agingGRAPE
We study the link between the evolving age structure of the working population and unemployment. We build a large new Keynesian OLG model with a realistic age structure, labor market frictions, sticky prices, and aggregate shocks. Once calibrated to the European economy, we quantify the extent to which demographic changes over the last three decades have contributed to the decline of the unemployment rate. Our findings yield important implications for the future evolution of unemployment given the anticipated further aging of the working population in Europe. We also quantify the implications for optimal monetary policy: lowering inflation volatility becomes less costly in terms of GDP and unemployment volatility, which hints that optimal monetary policy may be more hawkish in an aging society. Finally, our results also propose a partial reversal of the European-US unemployment puzzle due to the fact that the share of young workers is expected to remain robust in the US.

basics | Pew Center on global climate change. Also, watch An
Inconvenient Truth.
In your opinion, is global warming fact or fiction? What
responsibility, if any, do individuals, corporations and/or
governments have regarding the world
General Questions - General General Questions
Week 1
The Connection between Nature and Spirit . Gottlieb asks,
“Of what value is nature?” Based on your reading of Part I,
“can we speak of love or mutual respect for a particular tree,
an endangered species, or an ecosystem?” Select at least two
writers from this section and analyze how their responses to
these questions may vary or agree with your own.
Perceiving Nature . In the Introduction, Gottlieb suggests that
there is both “good news and bad news” regarding the
environment. He states that how individuals view nature may
be influenced by their personal theology, philosophy, or
worldview. In your opinion, do we need religion or
philosophy to help us perceive the value of nature? Is religion
or philosophy essentially a “private matter of personal faith”
or is it a necessary prerequisite to create a community
response to an environmental crisis?
2. Week 2
Traditional Views of Nature . Based on your reading of Part II
of the textbook, how have traditional religions or
philosophies helped to shape our understanding of and our
conduct towards nature? Compare and contrast two
different views of nature.
Transforming Traditional Views . Gottlieb asks, “How has the
environmental crisis challenged and transformed modern
theology and spiritual practice?” Based on your reading of
Part III of the textbook, select at least two different views of
nature. In your opinion, has contemporary ecotheology
transformed traditional theological or philosophical
perspectives toward the environment? In your opinion, “will
this body of thought remain merely an intellectual construct?
Or will it, as in the case of the Civil Rights Movement, bring a
religiously inspired vision into critical social struggles?”
Final Project Proposal . Submit a written proposal for your
final project that includes the following:
a. An outline of the project written in paragraph form that
includes format, issues, and your potential message.
b. A preliminary annotated bibliography that includes at least

a brief description of the contents of each selected source as
well as the title of the source, author, publisher, place and
date of publication in APA (6th ed.) format.
c. A minimum of three pages written in double-spaced type.
Include as much detail as possible to provide your instructor
with a complete understanding of your proposed final
project.
Week 3
Ecofeminism . Based on your reading of Part IV of the
3. textbook, how does the ecofeminist perspective view
humanity's spiritual relationship with the natural world? In
your opinion, will an ecofeminist perspective positively or
negatively affect society’s ability to address current
environmental concerns? What impact do you think
ecofeminism has on these contemporary environmental
debates?
Deep Ecology . Based on your reading of Part V of the
textbook, how would you define Spiritual Deep Ecology ?
How does this perspective affect our utilization of nature? In
your opinion, what influence does this perspective have on
contemporary environmental debates? Can individuals in
capitalist societies still be deep ecologists?
Final Project Draft: Research Paper . Submit a draft of your
Research Paper to the instructor. The draft should include a
minimum of three pages summarizing your progress as well
as the written notes supporting your project . Include enough
details to give your instructor a comprehensive picture of
your progress in completing and submitting your final
project. You will turn in a draft of the Creative Presentation in
Week Four.
Week 4
Environmental Racism . Read Environmental Racism: An
ecumenical study guide. What is your definition of
“environmental racism?” According to this document, what is
the relationship between the environment and the human
spirit? In your opinion, is environmental racism a reality that
governments must address, or it is an intellectual construct
without a basis in reality? Your initial post should be at least
250-300 words in length. Support your claims with examples
from
4. Sustainability . Visit Sustainable Supply Chain – About
McDonald’s and review McDonald’s Corporation corporate
policies related to “Sustainable Supply Chain,” “Resource
Conservation,” and “Environmental Responsibility.” Also,
watch The Road to Sustainability – About McDonald’s.
In your opinion, should the public care that large
multinational corporations like McDonald’s are promoting
sustainable environmental practices? Why do you think
McDonalds would invest considerable resources in
sustainable programs? Should multinationals that promote
sustainable practices be praised for their leadership,
condemned for hypocrisy, or ignored because it does not
make a difference?
