1. Students across England received their A-level results, with
the headline pass rate of 98.1% remaining unchanged on
2015.
There was coverage of a decline in the number of pupils
taking A-levels in languages, with French down 6.5 per
cent.
David Hoare announced he will step down as the Chair of
Ofsted after making controversial comments about the Isle
of Wight. Hoare's position had come under pressure after
describing the Isle of Wight as a 'poor white ghetto' during a
conference in Leeds last month.
A report conducted jointly by Barclays and the Centre for
Economics and Business Research found that the amount
apprentices can earn over the course of their lives is
‘outstripping that of graduates by up to 270 per cent’.
The Department for Education announced the finalists for
the National Apprenticeships Awards.
The National Audit Office (NAO) confirmed it will release its
latest report on apprenticeships when Parliament returns in
September.
Research published by Teach First revealed that teenagers
from affluent backgrounds are more likely to enrol on
apprenticeships than poorer school leavers.
The Department for Education published the model funding
agreement for general further education colleges and
specialist colleges for 2016 to 2017.
The IFS published a report which compared the
advantages in incomes of UK graduates from the mid-
1980s and those from the mid-1990s and found that
graduate earnings showed no sign of being diminished by
the growth in student numbers.
Following A Level results, UCAS announced that 474,710
students had been accepted to UK universities and
colleges as of midnight on Monday, a rise of two per cent
on 2015, with a record 33,000 students finding places
through clearing.
