CLASS BIBLE READING Acts 2:1-13
1- On the day of Pentecost, they were all together in one place.
2 - And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing
mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3- And they saw divided tongues, as of fire, which rested on each of
them.
4- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in
other tongues, as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.
5-And in Jerusalem were dwelling Jews, devout men, from every nation
under heaven.
6-And when that voice rang out, a crowd gathered and was
confused, because each one heard them speaking in his own
language.
7- And all were astonished and marvelled, saying to one another,
Well then! Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
8- How then do we hear them, each one, in our own language in
which we were born?
9- Parthians and Medes, Elamites, and those who dwell in
Mesopotamia, and Judea, and Cappadocia, and Pontus, and Asia,
CLASS BIBLE READING Acts 2:1-13
10- and Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt and parts of
Libya, near Cyrene, and foreigners from Rome (both
Jews and proselytes),
11- and Cretans, and Arabs, we have all heard them in
our own languages speaking of the greatness of God.
12-And all were amazed and were suspended, saying to
each other: What does this mean?
13-And others, mocking, said, They are full of new wine.
CLASS BIBLE READING Acts 2:1-13
INTRODUCTION
In the early days of the Church, God's people were
revived and walked under the direction of the Holy
Ghost. Therefore, in this lesson, we will study the role of
the filling of the Spirit in early revival. We will analyze
the dynamic aspect of the Church and, finally, we will
make some considerations regarding the revived
dynamism of the Primitive Church for the present day.
KEYWORD: LIFE
I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST
AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
1- The comprehensive call of Jesus. The first condition for
receiving Baptism in the Holy Ghost is to go through the
experience of salvation. Being necessary to repent and believe in
the Gospel (Mk 1.15), for without repentance and faith, there is no
salvation. The second condition is to obey God, for our
repentance and faith must bear worthy fruit (1 John 5:2-4). And
finally, the third condition is sanctification, for without
sanctification no one will see God (Heb. 12:14). This call from
Jesus is for all people. It precedes the experience of baptism in the
Holy Ghost.
2- The promise is for all the saved.* The first to receive this
supernatural manifestation of the Holy Ghost were the disciples who,
saved, gathered in the upper room to persevere in prayer (Acts 1.12-14).
They expected the fulfillment of the promise made by Jesus (At 2.1;
cf.1.4,5,8). And suddenly the Spirit was poured out on all who were
gathered and sitting in the house (Acts 2:1,2). At the end of the second
chapter of Acts, the apostle Peter states that the promise “concerns you,
and your children, and all who are far off, as many as God our Lord will
call” (Acts 2:39). Thus, the biblical text attests to the timeless and
perennial scope of the promise: baptism in the Holy Ghost and for all
those saved in all times, cultures and geographies.
I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST
AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
3- The deceit of the ceasers. The Ceasers is a current of
Reformed Theology and of some historic churches,
which claims that the spiritual gifts ceased in the life of
the Church. According to this current, the baptism in the
Holy Ghost and the spiritual gifts were only for the
apostolic days. There is a “biblical interpretation
gymnastics” to justify this historical fabrication. There
are still others who, following their theologians, assert
that baptism in the Holy Ghost is conversion itself.
I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST
AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
We have already studied in previous quarters that the New Testament,
and especially the book of Acts, shows in detail that the baptism in the
Holy Ghost is a distinct experience of salvation – as we have seen
here, all disciples who received the baptism in the Spirit were already
saved – and that spiritual gifts overflowed the bounds of the apostolic
church. Therefore, as Pentecostals, we affirm baptism in the Holy
Ghost with physical evidence of speaking in tongues, as well as the
relevance of spiritual gifts in the life of the Church. This spiritual
reality permeates all eras, cultures and geographies where there is
someone saved in Christ.
I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST
AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
SYNOPSIS I
Baptism in the Holy Ghost
is a call for every believer
to experience the heavenly
gift. Therefore, the ceasers
are mistaken.
II – THE DYNAMISM OF THE APOSTOLIC
CHURCH
1- The Church is born revived. Historically, the Church
came into being on the day of Pentecost. This took place
under the direct agency of the Holy Ghost. The Church
was born alive! As the Tabernacle was consecrated by the
descent of the divine glory (Ex 40:34,35), the Church was
consecrated by the descent of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2).
So, there at Pentecost, the Lord of the Church initiated
the greatest revival in human history.
2- The Church after Pentecost. The signs of God's power in the Acts of
the Apostles can be summarized as follows: Conversions and Baptisms
(Acts 2:41), which were the fruits of the spiritual revival in Jerusalem.
After Pentecost, the Apostolic Church preached in the authority of the
name of Jesus, in the anointing and power of the Holy Ghost. Therefore,
in that church there was perseverance in doctrine, fellowship and prayer
(Acts 2:42); there was also fear, signs and wonders (2:43); in addition to
special care for needy brothers (2.44,45; 4.32,33). The spiritual revival
of the Apostolic Church reveals a deep commitment in two spheres: the
spiritual (piety – Word and Prayer) and the social (Communion – filling
the need).
II – THE DYNAMISM OF THE APOSTOLIC
CHURCH
SYNOPSIS II
The church of Pentecost was born alive and stayed alive.
This explains the dynamism of this Church.
III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE
PRESENT DAY
1- In the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Christian
preaching must be accompanied by power, signs, and
miracles. These signs can be manifested through saving
lives for Jesus; casting out demons; laying of hands on
the sick to recover as Jesus declared would happen (Mark
16:18). A revived ministry, anointed by the Holy Ghost,
is indispensable to the mission of the Church in these
days.
2- Authenticated by God. An anointed ministry does not develop
only through formal and academic instruments within the
hermeneutical, exegetical and homiletic standards of preaching.
All these instruments are important for the improvement of the
worker. But they alone are not enough. God must approve the
work of the worker. This is how it happened in Mark, when Jesus
authenticated the preaching of the disciples, "confirming the word
with signs that followed" (Mc 16.20). Therefore, the model of
New Testament preaching is a message confirmed by the signs
and wonders of God.
III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE
PRESENT DAY
3-Glorifies Christ. Spirit-anointed ministry glorifies
Christ and not man. Not by chance, our Lord declared
that the mission of the Holy Ghost is to glorify Him (Jn
16.13,14). Thus, every Gospel message and activity
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit must glorify Christ.
To the Corinthians, the apostle Paul teaches that “whether
you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory
of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). God in Christ and who
should be glorified from our instrumentality in the work
of the Lord.
III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE
PRESENT DAY
SYNOPSIS III
A Christian ministry must be anointed by the Holy Ghost,
authenticated by God and glorifying Christ.
CONCLUSION
The Apostolic Church was born under the revival of
Pentecost, under the glorious baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Throughout its history, we have learned that the reason
for its success was not the human knowledge of its
preachers, members and congregants. What made all the
difference in the ministry of the Apostolic Church was
the Holy Ghost's anointing on that church. We cannot let
the flame go out. The Holy Ghost anointing remains
available today.

  • 6. 6-And when that voice rang out, a crowd gathered and was confused, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7- And all were astonished and marvelled, saying to one another, Well then! Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8- How then do we hear them, each one, in our own language in which we were born? 9- Parthians and Medes, Elamites, and those who dwell in Mesopotamia, and Judea, and Cappadocia, and Pontus, and Asia, CLASS BIBLE READING Acts 2:1-13

CLASS BIBLE READING Acts 2:1-13
  • 8. INTRODUCTION In the early days of the Church, God's people were revived and walked under the direction of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, in this lesson, we will study the role of the filling of the Spirit in early revival. We will analyze the dynamic aspect of the Church and, finally, we will make some considerations regarding the revived dynamism of the Primitive Church for the present day. KEYWORD: LIFE
  • 9. I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST AND THE TARGET PUBLIC 1- The comprehensive call of Jesus. The first condition for receiving Baptism in the Holy Ghost is to go through the experience of salvation. Being necessary to repent and believe in the Gospel (Mk 1.15), for without repentance and faith, there is no salvation. The second condition is to obey God, for our repentance and faith must bear worthy fruit (1 John 5:2-4). And finally, the third condition is sanctification, for without sanctification no one will see God (Heb. 12:14). This call from Jesus is for all people. It precedes the experience of baptism in the Holy Ghost.
  • 10. 2- The promise is for all the saved.* The first to receive this supernatural manifestation of the Holy Ghost were the disciples who, saved, gathered in the upper room to persevere in prayer (Acts 1.12-14). They expected the fulfillment of the promise made by Jesus (At 2.1; cf.1.4,5,8). And suddenly the Spirit was poured out on all who were gathered and sitting in the house (Acts 2:1,2). At the end of the second chapter of Acts, the apostle Peter states that the promise “concerns you, and your children, and all who are far off, as many as God our Lord will call” (Acts 2:39). Thus, the biblical text attests to the timeless and perennial scope of the promise: baptism in the Holy Ghost and for all those saved in all times, cultures and geographies. I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
  • 11. 3- The deceit of the ceasers. The Ceasers is a current of Reformed Theology and of some historic churches, which claims that the spiritual gifts ceased in the life of the Church. According to this current, the baptism in the Holy Ghost and the spiritual gifts were only for the apostolic days. There is a “biblical interpretation gymnastics” to justify this historical fabrication. There are still others who, following their theologians, assert that baptism in the Holy Ghost is conversion itself. I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
  • 12. We have already studied in previous quarters that the New Testament, and especially the book of Acts, shows in detail that the baptism in the Holy Ghost is a distinct experience of salvation – as we have seen here, all disciples who received the baptism in the Spirit were already saved – and that spiritual gifts overflowed the bounds of the apostolic church. Therefore, as Pentecostals, we affirm baptism in the Holy Ghost with physical evidence of speaking in tongues, as well as the relevance of spiritual gifts in the life of the Church. This spiritual reality permeates all eras, cultures and geographies where there is someone saved in Christ. I- THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST AND THE TARGET PUBLIC
  • 13. SYNOPSIS I Baptism in the Holy Ghost is a call for every believer to experience the heavenly gift. Therefore, the ceasers are mistaken.
  • 14. II – THE DYNAMISM OF THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH 1- The Church is born revived. Historically, the Church came into being on the day of Pentecost. This took place under the direct agency of the Holy Ghost. The Church was born alive! As the Tabernacle was consecrated by the descent of the divine glory (Ex 40:34,35), the Church was consecrated by the descent of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2). So, there at Pentecost, the Lord of the Church initiated the greatest revival in human history.
  • 15. 2- The Church after Pentecost. The signs of God's power in the Acts of the Apostles can be summarized as follows: Conversions and Baptisms (Acts 2:41), which were the fruits of the spiritual revival in Jerusalem. After Pentecost, the Apostolic Church preached in the authority of the name of Jesus, in the anointing and power of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, in that church there was perseverance in doctrine, fellowship and prayer (Acts 2:42); there was also fear, signs and wonders (2:43); in addition to special care for needy brothers (2.44,45; 4.32,33). The spiritual revival of the Apostolic Church reveals a deep commitment in two spheres: the spiritual (piety – Word and Prayer) and the social (Communion – filling the need). II – THE DYNAMISM OF THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH
  • 16. SYNOPSIS II The church of Pentecost was born alive and stayed alive. This explains the dynamism of this Church.
  • 17. III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE PRESENT DAY 1- In the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Christian preaching must be accompanied by power, signs, and miracles. These signs can be manifested through saving lives for Jesus; casting out demons; laying of hands on the sick to recover as Jesus declared would happen (Mark 16:18). A revived ministry, anointed by the Holy Ghost, is indispensable to the mission of the Church in these days.
  • 18. 2- Authenticated by God. An anointed ministry does not develop only through formal and academic instruments within the hermeneutical, exegetical and homiletic standards of preaching. All these instruments are important for the improvement of the worker. But they alone are not enough. God must approve the work of the worker. This is how it happened in Mark, when Jesus authenticated the preaching of the disciples, "confirming the word with signs that followed" (Mc 16.20). Therefore, the model of New Testament preaching is a message confirmed by the signs and wonders of God. III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE PRESENT DAY
  • 19. 3-Glorifies Christ. Spirit-anointed ministry glorifies Christ and not man. Not by chance, our Lord declared that the mission of the Holy Ghost is to glorify Him (Jn 16.13,14). Thus, every Gospel message and activity under the guidance of the Holy Spirit must glorify Christ. To the Corinthians, the apostle Paul teaches that “whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). God in Christ and who should be glorified from our instrumentality in the work of the Lord. III - AN ANOINTED MINISTRY FOR THE PRESENT DAY
  • 20. SYNOPSIS III A Christian ministry must be anointed by the Holy Ghost, authenticated by God and glorifying Christ.
  • 21. CONCLUSION The Apostolic Church was born under the revival of Pentecost, under the glorious baptism of the Holy Ghost. Throughout its history, we have learned that the reason for its success was not the human knowledge of its preachers, members and congregants. What made all the difference in the ministry of the Apostolic Church was the Holy Ghost's anointing on that church. We cannot let the flame go out. The Holy Ghost anointing remains available today.
