The Recreation Commission meets at the Borough
Annex, 305 Beechwood Place, on the third Tuesday of
every month at 7:30 p.m. Public is invited to attend.
PAYMENT METHODS
 Prior to attending any program a registration form
must be completely filled out for each course.
 Forms available online or at Recreation Center.
 All fees are due and payable at the time of registration
(except if on a waiting list).
 Late registration will be accepted, space permitting,
but will not be pro-rated.
 Please make checks payable to “Borough of Leonia”.
WALK-IN REGISTRATION
 Walk-in registration will be accepted on a
first-come first-served basis.
 If a program has been filled you may ask to be put on a
waiting list.
NON-RESIDENTS
 Space permitting, non-residents may be allowed to
register for programs after the first week of registration.
 An additional fee of $25.00 will be applied to each program,
unless otherwise stated.
SIBLING DISCOUNT
 Taken at time of registration. Register 2 siblings or more in the
same program and you will receive a 10% discount for
each additional child.
REFUNDS
 All refund requests, at the latest, must come directly to the
Recreation office one week prior to program start date.
 Otherwise NO REFUNDS are given unless:
 The program is cancelled by the Recreation Commission.
 The request is accompanied by a doctor's written medical
excuse.
 Medical refunds are pro-rated based on the date of
notification to the Recreation Commission.
⦁ There are no refunds after a program has ended.
⦁ A $5.00 fee will be applied for all refunds.
INSURANCE
⦁ Accident reports must be filled out within 24 hours of incident.
⦁ Waiver forms must be filled out for all children’s programs.
PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS
⦁ The Leonia Recreation Commission reserves the right to limit
or cancel programs.
⦁ Program schedules will follow school calendar.
⦁ When schools are closed due to inclement weather all
programs will be canceled unless otherwise noted.
PARK & BALL FIELD FACILITY PERMITS
⦁ Registration for parks and/or fields must be submitted to the
Recreation Office for groups over 10.

Julie’s Music AppreciAtion
Instructor:Julie Sung
Content: This class will highlight the universal language of music. Parents and
children will experience a wide variety of musical pieces and learn musical
concepts such as dynamics, tempo, rhythm, tone and pitches. This class is
designed to expose children to a variety of music that will result in a greater
appreciation for music. Ms. Sung is a music teacher with an extensive
background in teaching young children. 15 families per class.

Content: Learn to draw like a professional animator or cartoonist! Everyone loves to
draw, but always gets stuck. We will go over step by step techniques that
sketch artists use so that you can be confident to create your own
characters. Bring your favorite illustrations to class as a reference. No
experience necessary. Materials are included.

will go over your choice of pastels, watercolors or oil paints and all materials are included.

Content: Hop on board and join us each Wednesday after school for a journey
around the world. First stop Australia, where we will do Aboriginal dot
painting. Next we will head over to Holland and explore Van Gogh’s colorful
creations. That is not all, we will also visit Asia, Mexico and more! Come
celebrate Leonia’s cultural diversity and have fun while creating beautiful art

Fencing: Classical French Foil
Instructor: Jared Kirby
Content: Want to get fit while learning a unique skill? Classical fencing teaches fencing as a martial
art so you develop more confidence, self-respect and coordination. For beginners, class
will focus on fundamentals such as the guard, lunge, basic footwork, attacks and
defenses with this thrusting weapon. For returning students, you will need to purchase a
mask and jacket and you will begin fencing with each other. Classes require both mental
and physical exertion which will help you develop strength, stamina, flexibility and mental
acuity.

Kumdo (Also known as Kendo)
Instructor: Jinwoo Chang, 4th Degree Black Belt, Korea Kumdo Association
Content: The concept of KUMDO is to discipline the human character through the
application of the principles of the sword. The purpose of practicing
KUMDO is: to mold the mind and body, to cultivate a vigorous spirit, and
through correct and rigid training, to strive for improvement in the art of
KUMDO, to learn to have honor, to treat others with sincerity and to
forever pursue bettering oneself. KUMDO can be beneficial to oneself by:
learning how to respect others and oneself, improving on concentration,
relieving stress, building confidence, promoting good health, strengthening
spiritual strength, emphasizing good posture, acquiring self-defense skills
and losing weight.

Minds in Motion: Rechargeable Solar Transformer
Content: Build and take home your very own 7 in 1 Rechargeable Solar Transformer!
This innovative solar science kit will encourage you to exercise your sense
of creativity and imagination. A greater starter for those new to robotics, this
kit features all snap together plastic parts where no screws or tools are
required! It is incredibly easy to assemble the 7 different modules, 2 power
charging stations and 5 different vehicles, along with the solar panel and
accessories. Using your box, you can build a ramp and watch them go!
Students will also form teams and work together to see who can build the
fastest and strongest robot! Each team will be given a robotic kit containing
motors, wheels, engines and a remote. Using hundreds of parts, come
hone your robotic skills to free-build your own robot and compete in our
Minds in Motion robot battles!

Content: This sewing class is a blast for children of all ages! No experience is
needed and your children will have the opportunity to sew things they can
actually use and make their own patterns. The class is open to both boys
and girls who wish to pursue their own fashion creativity. Ms. Su has 20
years of sewing experience.

Spring into Arts and Crafts with Miss Donna 4-6 yrs

Content: Miss Donna is back for another fun filled season of Arts & Crafts classes. Join us each
week for an enriching experience inspired by the colors of Spring. Budding artists will
enjoy painting, drawing, working with clay and so much more. Each week we will begin
with story time, then do a craft project as a group. We will finish of the session with a little
“choice time” at various Creation Stations set up around the room.

Content: Want to know what it is like to sing in a real chorus? Join us each week and learn what it
is all about. Gianna Williamson, Leonia High Schools’ award-winning vocalist will teach
you how to make beautiful music with your voice. Vocal warm ups, rounds, breathing
techniques and keeping the beat are some of the skills that you will learn. You will be
accompanied by Sam Wilson, Leonia High School Jazz pianist.

Content: Welcome to the fun world of Table Tennis where our USA Table Tennis affiliated trainers

Table Tennis invigorates brain functionality, improves concentration and moves every
muscle of a child’s developing body without being stressed.

TGA: Ultimate Frisbee
Content: Play one of the fastest growing youth sports at TGA’s Ultimate Enrichment Program! This
fast-paced team game uses a flying disc (A.K.A. a Frisbee®
) to score points in an end
zone, similar to football. Students develop throwing, catching, marking, and defending
skills while learning about the academics behind throwing techniques and the ‘Spirit of the
Game’ which emphasizes important life skills including fair play, honesty, and respect for
other players.

Content: Improve balance, flexibility, conditioning, and self-esteem while learning self-defense as
well as competition style Tae Kwon Do. Students can advance in belts through serious
practice and dedication. Great for both parents and children to take together! Additional
fee of $25.00 is required to take promotion test. For beginners and more advanced
participants.

TWILIGHT YOGA - MOVE & MEDITATE
Instructor: Cui Wang, 500 Hour Advanced Certified Yoga Teacher
Content: Whether you are looking for improved strength and flexibility, clarity of mind or to de-
stress, this is the class for you! End your day with a well-rounded practice that combines
intelligent asana flow (poses), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation. Cui will
lead you through a practice that focuses on expelling toxins, followed by relaxing
restorative postures to calm the nervous system and foster a good night’s rest. This class
will cater to your individual needs with intelligence and authenticity. With an emphasis on
breathing and healthy alignment, this series is suitable for all levels

PAYMENT METHODS  Prior to attending any program a registration form must be completely filled out for each course.  Forms available online or at Recreation Center.  All fees are due and payable at the time of registration (except if on a waiting list).  Late registration will be accepted, space permitting, but will not be pro-rated.  Please make checks payable to “Borough of Leonia”. WALK-IN REGISTRATION  Walk-in registration will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  If a program has been filled you may ask to be put on a waiting list. NON-RESIDENTS  Space permitting, non-residents may be allowed to register for programs after the first week of registration.  An additional fee of $25.00 will be applied to each program, unless otherwise stated. SIBLING DISCOUNT  Taken at time of registration. Register 2 siblings or more in the same program and you will receive a 10% discount for each additional child. REFUNDS  All refund requests, at the latest, must come directly to the Recreation office one week prior to program start date.  Otherwise NO REFUNDS are given unless:  The program is cancelled by the Recreation Commission.  The request is accompanied by a doctor's written medical excuse.  Medical refunds are pro-rated based on the date of notification to the Recreation Commission. ⦁ There are no refunds after a program has ended. ⦁ A $5.00 fee will be applied for all refunds. INSURANCE ⦁ Accident reports must be filled out within 24 hours of incident. ⦁ Waiver forms must be filled out for all children’s programs. PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS ⦁ The Leonia Recreation Commission reserves the right to limit or cancel programs. ⦁ Program schedules will follow school calendar. ⦁ When schools are closed due to inclement weather all programs will be canceled unless otherwise noted. Classical fencing teaches fencing as a martial art so you develop more confidence, self-respect and coordination. For beginners, class will focus on fundamentals such as the guard, lunge, basic footwork, attacks and defenses with this thrusting weapon. For returning students, you will need to purchase a mask and jacket and you will begin fencing with each other. Classes require both mental and physical exertion which will help you develop strength, stamina, flexibility and mental acuity. The purpose of practicing KUMDO is: to mold the mind and body, to cultivate a vigorous spirit, and through correct and rigid training, to strive for improvement in the art of KUMDO, to learn to have honor, to treat others with sincerity and to forever pursue bettering oneself. KUMDO can be beneficial to oneself by: learning how to respect others and oneself, improving on concentration, relieving stress, building confidence, promoting good health, strengthening spiritual strength, emphasizing good posture, acquiring self-defense skills and losing weight.   • 12. 12 Youth Minds in Motion: Rechargeable Solar Transformer Content: Build and take home your very own 7 in 1 Rechargeable Solar Transformer! This innovative solar science kit will encourage you to exercise your sense of creativity and imagination. A greater starter for those new to robotics, this kit features all snap together plastic parts where no screws or tools are required! It is incredibly easy to assemble the 7 different modules, 2 power charging stations and 5 different vehicles, along with the solar panel and accessories. Using your box, you can build a ramp and watch them go! Students will also form teams and work together to see who can build the fastest and strongest robot! Each team will be given a robotic kit containing motors, wheels, engines and a remote. Using hundreds of parts, come hone your robotic skills to free-build your own robot and compete in our Minds in Motion robot battles! Playing Table Tennis invigorates brain functionality, improves concentration and moves every muscle of a child’s developing body without being stressed.
