The Recreation Commission meets at the
Borough Annex, 305 Beechwood Place, on the
third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m.
PAYMENT METHODS
 Prior to attending any program, a registration form
must be completely filled out for each participant.
 Forms available online or at Recreation Center.
 All fees are due and payable at the time of registration
(except if on a waiting list).
 Late registration will be accepted, space permitting,
but will not be pro-rated.
 Please make checks payable to “Borough of Leonia”.
WALK-IN REGISTRATION
 Walk-in registration will be accepted on a
first-come first-served basis.
 If a program has been filled you may ask to be put on a
waiting list.
NON-RESIDENTS
 An additional fee of $25.00 will be applied to each program,
unless otherwise stated.
SIBLING DISCOUNT
 Taken at time of registration. Register 2 siblings or more in the
same program and you will receive a 10% discount for that
program .
REFUNDS
 All refund requests, at the latest, must come directly to the
Recreation office one week prior to program start date.
 Otherwise NO REFUNDS are given unless:
 The program is cancelled by the Recreation Commission.
 The request is accompanied by a doctor's written medical
excuse.
 Medical refunds are pro-rated based on the date of
notification to the Recreation Commission.
⦁ There are no refunds after a program has ended.
INSURANCE
⦁ Accident reports must be filled out within 24 hours of incident.
⦁ Waiver forms must be filled out for all children’s programs.
PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS
⦁ The Leonia Recreation Commission reserves the right to limit
or cancel programs.
⦁ Program schedules will follow school calendar.
⦁ When schools are closed due to inclement weather all
programs will be canceled unless otherwise noted.
PARK & BALL FIELD FACILITY PERMITS
⦁ Registration for parks and/or fields must be submitted to the
Recreation Office for groups of more than 10.

Creative Movement

Content: A dance class that focuses on the joy of movement using activities that
improve coordination, musicality, and expressiveness.
Day: Mondays
Ages: 3-5 year olds (10 spots available per class)

Julie’s Music AppreciAtion
Instructor:Julie Sung
Content: This class will highlight the universal language of music. Parents and children
will experience a wide variety of musical pieces and learn musical concepts
such as dynamics, tempo, rhythm, tone and pitches. This class is designed to
expose children to a variety of music that will result in a greater appreciation
for music. Ms. Sung is a music teacher with an extensive background in
teaching young children. Parent or caregiver participation required. 15 fami-
lies per class.

Cartoon Character and Graphic Novel Sketching
Instructor:Allen Terrell
Content: Learn techniques to draw your favorite characters and eventually develop
your own. Please come with your favorite graphic novel or cartoon
illustrations. Sketch pads and drawing pencils will be provided.

Chill Time with Miss Nanda **NEW PROGRAM!**
Instructor:Nanda van Ginkel
Content: Each class will start with the sound of a singing bowl and a short guided
meditation. After which the students will use a small journal to create art,
doodle, write and de-stress. We will look at mixed media techniques,
charcoal drawings, and string ink drawings, amongst other mediums to make
the journal expressive and unique to each student. Extra time will be spent to
talk about positive experiences and how to capture a sense of wellbeing
using art and meditation. This class is a perfect introduction into mindfulness
for our busy lives.

Fencing: Classical French Foil
Content: Want to get fit while learning a unique skill? Classical fencing teaches
fencing as a martial art so you develop more confidence, self-respect and
coordination. For beginners, class will focus on fundamentals such as the
guard, lunge, basic footwork, attacks and defenses with this thrusting
weapon. For returning students you will need to purchase a mask and
jacket and you will begin fencing with each other. Classes require both
mental and physical exertion which will help you develop strength, stamina,
flexibility, and mental acuity.
Ages: 10 year olds and up

Kumdo (Also Known as Kendo)
Instructor:Jinwoo Jang, 4th Degree Black Belt - Korean Kumdo Association
Content: The concept of KUMDO is to discipline the human character through the
application of the principles of the sword. The purpose of practicing
KUMDO through correct and rigid training is to mold the mind and body,
cultivate a vigorous spirit, learn honor and respect, treat others with
sincerity and purse bettering oneself. KUMDO can be beneficial to oneself
by improving concentration, relieving stress, building confidence, promoting
good health, strengthening yourself spiritually, emphasizing good posture,
acquiring self defense skills and losing weight.

Minds in Motion: CSI - Crime Scene Investigation
Content: Come and join our Minds in Motion Crime Team in this fun and interesting workshop! We
will provide you with all the tools you need to become your very own crime scene
investigator! Learn all about forensics, searching for evidence and gathering clues.
Working in groups, you will conduct many science experiments in our crime labs to solve
the mysteries at hand. As young detectives in training, you will learn all about
fingerprinting and how to classify them. Even bring home your very own fingerprint
classification sheet. You will also perform chemical analyses and observations working
with powders, liquids, and more. Come ready with your thinking caps and be prepared to
use all the skills necessary to solve the crime of the century and help save the Minds in
Motion Lab. We need you!

Minds in Motion: Kingii Dragon Robot Workshop
Content: Build and take home your very own Kingii Dragon Robot! Based on the Chalamydosaurus
Kingii, or Frilled Lizard, this robot is a smart super lizard with artificial intelligence (AI) and
is one of the wackiest lizards to roam planet Earth. The Kingii Dragon Robot has an
infrared sensor that is programmed for two different modes. If it is activated in the
“escape” mode, the robot will feel threatened, gape its mouth, dramatically spread and
flap its frill, illuminate its bi-color LED eyes, and scurry away to safety. In the “follow-me”
mode, the robot will assess danger by bluffing the attacker. When the robot does not
sense danger it might approach you like a pet lizard. You will also team up with your
classmates to build a 6-foot long Crocosaur! Using the wireless remote, watch as this 5-
motor, battery operated robot crawls across the room. If you’re a young lizard enthusiast
and you love robots, then this workshop is for you!

Mixed Media Madness for Kids **NEW PROGRAM!**
Instructor: Michael Tarricone, Water Color and Mixed Media Artist
Content: Time to turn off the Xbox and put away your phone. Sign up for our Mixed Media
Madness workshop and have some fun creating Real Art. You will learn air-dry clay
jewelry making, paper collage, colorful gelli plate monoprinting, creative greeting card
making and more. We create an opportunity for our students to explore and expand their
creativity as never before. All materials are included. (This is an ideal workshop setting for
scout troops)

authorized club under USA Table Tennis. Our Instructors have represented their country
in Table Tennis competitions. Our instructors believe in focused training while having fun!

Content: Want to be a part of a fast-paced, fun and exhilarating sport? You can by
participating in the game of basketball. All Leonia clinics emphasize a
fundamental-based and informative environment while instructing your
child through various skill development drills, friendly competitions and
game-like scrimmages. All participants will be grouped by skill level and
proper competitive balance to allow your child to develop as a basketball
player. The clinic will be led by Tyler Daniel who was a three year all-league
varsity starter at Morris Knolls High School and played collegiate basketball
at New England College.

Winter Wonderland with lots of painting, drawing and more!

Content: Hey kids, do you love to sing? Would you like to perform in from of a live
audience? Join our group and be a part of a real chorus. Each week,
Gianna Williamson, Leonia High Schools’ award winning vocalist, will teach
you how to make beautiful music with your voice. Learn vocal warm-ups,
breathing techniques, and most importantly, how to sing together as one.
(Una Voca - OneVoice) In late March, we will perform in a Winter Concert
at the Leonia Recreation Center. Space is limited.

SCHOOL’S OUT MULTI SPORTS CAMP (age 5 to 11): In an environment that encourages good
sportsmanship and teamwork this camp allows players will experience up to 4 different sports each
morning. In the afternoons players switch their focus to soccer.
Throughout the day participants will learn new skills and develop their understanding of playing a
scrimmage within in each sport. Small-sided tournament style scrimmages creates a fun and exciting

Content: Each class will start with the sound of a singing bowl and a short guided meditation. After
which the students will use a small journal to create art, doodle, write and de-stress. We
will look at mixed media techniques, charcoal drawings, and string ink drawings, amongst
other mediums to make the journal expressive and unique to each student. Extra time will
be spent to talk about positive experiences and how to capture a sense of wellbeing
using art and meditation. This class is a perfect introduction into mindfulness for our busy

Content: The knightly art of longsword was used in Europe for hundreds of years to
fight wars, duels and in personal combat. This simple cruciform hilted sword

the primary guards and defenses. Students will begin working on partner
drills by the end of the session.

Davidson, Superintendent Sean Krakower, Program Director David Torres, Administrative Assistant Marion Cassidy, Senior Coordinator LEONIA RECREATION COMMISSION IRA J.GOLD - CHAIRPERSON MARILYN MULATO KARL MARQUARDT ERICA CHACE PAUL SPRINGOB JON ABOUAF BENJAMIN CHOI TODD GELAYDER The Recreation Commission meets at the Borough Annex, 305 Beechwood Place, on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. PAYMENT METHODS  Prior to attending any program, a registration form must be completely filled out for each participant.  Forms available online or at Recreation Center.  All fees are due and payable at the time of registration (except if on a waiting list).  Late registration will be accepted, space permitting, but will not be pro-rated.  Please make checks payable to “Borough of Leonia”. WALK-IN REGISTRATION  Walk-in registration will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  If a program has been filled you may ask to be put on a waiting list. NON-RESIDENTS  An additional fee of $25.00 will be applied to each program, unless otherwise stated. SIBLING DISCOUNT  Taken at time of registration. Register 2 siblings or more in the same program and you will receive a 10% discount for that program . REFUNDS  All refund requests, at the latest, must come directly to the Recreation office one week prior to program start date.  Otherwise NO REFUNDS are given unless:  The program is cancelled by the Recreation Commission.  The request is accompanied by a doctor's written medical excuse.  Medical refunds are pro-rated based on the date of notification to the Recreation Commission. ⦁ There are no refunds after a program has ended. INSURANCE ⦁ Accident reports must be filled out within 24 hours of incident. ⦁ Waiver forms must be filled out for all children’s programs. PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS ⦁ The Leonia Recreation Commission reserves the right to limit or cancel programs. ⦁ Program schedules will follow school calendar. ⦁ When schools are closed due to inclement weather all programs will be canceled unless otherwise noted. PARK & BALL FIELD FACILITY PERMITS ⦁ Registration for parks and/or fields must be submitted to the Recreation Office for groups of more than 10. BUILDING CLOSED: Monday, January 21: Martin Luther King Day Tuesday, February 12: Lincoln’s Birthday Monday, February 18: Presidents’ Day

  • 7. 7 Preschool Creative Movement Instructor:Sharon Snyder Content: A dance class that focuses on the joy of movement using activities that improve coordination, musicality, and expressiveness. Day: Mondays Ages: 3-5 year olds (10 spots available per class) Time: 3:30 – 4:00 pm Date: Jan 28 – Mar 4 (5 weeks) Location: Recreation Dance Studio Fee: $65.00 Dress: Girls should wear any color leotard with pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Boys should wear a t-shirt, form fitting sweat pants or black tights, white socks and black or white ballet shoes. **No class February 18 - Presidents’ Day** Julie’s Music AppreciAtion Instructor:Julie Sung Content: This class will highlight the universal language of music. Parents and children will experience a wide variety of musical pieces and learn musical concepts such as dynamics, tempo, rhythm, tone and pitches. This class is designed to expose children to a variety of music that will result in a greater appreciation for music. Ms. Sung is a music teacher with an extensive background in teaching young children. Parent or caregiver participation required. 15 fami- lies per class. Day: Thursdays Ages: 6 months - 4 year olds Time: 10:00 – 10:45 am Dates: Jan 17 – Mar 7 (8 weeks) Location: Recreation Center Meeting Room Fee: $125.00
  • 8. 8 Preschool Rhythm and Rhyme Music Class Instructor: Gehn Su Content: Play dress up, dance and have fun with all of our new friends singing along to our favorite nursery rhymes. Wonderful opportunity for the little ones! Day: Wednesdays Ages: 18 months - 4 year olds Time: 10:00 – 11:15 am Date: Jan 16 – Mar 20 (10 weeks) Location: Recreation Center Meeting Room Fee: $115.00 Runners Gym Instructor:Gehn Su Content: Get some energy out! This is for toddlers on the go as he/she will run, jump, & tumble through the gym. Balls, beanbags, hula-hoops, and obstacles are some of the play highlights. Circle time songs, and the parachute are also included. Ages: 2-4 year olds Date: Mondays: Jan 14 – March 25 (9 weeks) Fridays: Jan 18 – Mar 15 (9 weeks) Time: 10:30 – 11:15 am Location: Recreation Center Gym Fee: $95.00 **No classes January 21 - MLK Day & February 18 – Winter Break **

Based on the Chalamydosaurus Kingii, or Frilled Lizard, this robot is a smart super lizard with artificial intelligence (AI) and is one of the wackiest lizards to roam planet Earth. The Kingii Dragon Robot has an infrared sensor that is programmed for two different modes. If it is activated in the “escape” mode, the robot will feel threatened, gape its mouth, dramatically spread and flap its frill, illuminate its bi-color LED eyes, and scurry away to safety. In the “follow-me” mode, the robot will assess danger by bluffing the attacker. When the robot does not sense danger it might approach you like a pet lizard.
