Legally required benefits in Pakistan include pensions, gratuity payments, maternity benefits, and leave time. The Factories Act of 1934 mandates that workers receive 10 days of casual leave and 16 days of sick leave. Workers are also entitled to holidays under the Factories Act. Unions are legally protected under the constitution. The Maternity Benefit Ordinance prohibits dismissing women on maternity leave and provides benefits for women in mines. Pakistan's social security system includes some coverage for old age benefits, employment injury, and sickness through institutions like EOBI but coverage and spending are much lower than other countries.
