2. BASICS OF LED LIGHTING
 What is light :- Light is electromagnetic radiation that can be
detected by the human eye.
 What is LED :- light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor
device that emits light when an electric current
is passed through it

3.  Why LED is USED
 LED lights are up to 60-80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and
incandescent lights.
 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. This is compared
to fluorescent lights which convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light.
LED lights also draw much less power than traditional lighting; a typical 84 watt fluorescent can
be replaced by a 36 watt LED to give the same level of light.
Less energy use reduces the demand from power plants and decreases greenhouse gas emissions.

5.  LUMEN & LUX
 Lumens are a measure of the total amount of visible light
from a lamp or light source.
The higher the lumen rating the “brighter” the lamp
will appear.

6.  CRI
 CRI :- Colour rendering describes how a light source makes
the colour of an object appear to human eyes
 The Colour Rendering Index (CRI) is a scale from 0 to 100 percent
 The higher the CRI, the better the colour rendering ability.
 Light sources with a CRI of 85 to 90 are considered good
at colour rendering.

7.  CCT
 CCT :- Correlated Colour temperature (CCT) in lighting describes how the colour
of the light appears from a lamp, measured in kelvins (K)
 Imagine a scale from 1000K (very red) to 10,000K (very blue). The higher up
the scale you go, the closer the light resembles blue daylight.

8.  IP
 IP :- Ingress protection determines if an electrical product’s exterior case or enclosure will protect
the working parts from water, dust or solid object intrusion, keeping the product electrically safe
and lasting longer
 IP20 :- IP 20 Rated products are suitable for Indoor Lightings
 IP 44 :- IP 44 Rated products are suitable for bathrooms and other applications where water spray
is a risk.
 IP65 :- Water resistant. “Protected against water jets from any angle”
 IP67 :- Water resistant plus. “Protected against the events of temporary submersion (10 minutes)”
 IP68 :- Waterproof “Protected against the events of permanent submersion up to 3 meters”

9. Beam Angle
 A beam angle is a measurement of how the light is
distributed & is measured in degrees.
 Specific Beam angle required for below lighting:
•Task Oriented Lighting – used in areas that need high
productivity and are well lit.
• Accent Lighting – This type of lighting highlights a certain
space or object.
• General Lighting – makes occupants feel safe and comfortable.
