A CYCLIC HYDROCARBON (ALIPHATIC CYCLIC HYDROCARBONS) Lec.4 organic chemistry
NOMENCLATURE:
PREPARATION OF CYCLIC COMPOUNDS:  We have seen that the alkyl groups of two alkyl halides can be coupled together through conversion of one halide into an organometallic compound (a lithium dialkyl copper): The same method applied to an di halide can bring about coupling between two alkyl groups that are part of the same molecule:
REACTION OF CYCLIC COMPOUNDS:  Cycloalkanes undergo chiefly free-radical substitution For example:
REACTIONS OF SMALL-RING COMPOUNDS. CYCLOPROPANE AND CYCLOBUTANE:  Besides the free-radical substitution reactions that are characteristic of cycloalkanes and of alkanes in general, cyclopropane and cyclobutane undergo certain addition reactions. These addition reactions destroy the cycld profttrie and cyclobutane ring systems, and yield open- chain products. For example:
