out.
Who am I?
Tell me two truths and a lie
about yourself.
Tell me two truths and a lie
about yourself.
What do you expect to learn today?
By the end of the session trainees should be able to
identify
The difference between learning and teaching
strategies.
The different learning styles.
The best teaching strategy.
What is learning strategies in the classroom?
A learning strategy is an individual's way of
organizing and using a particular set of skills in
order to learn content or accomplish other
tasks more effectively and efficiently in school as
well as in non-academic settings.
(Schumaker & Deshler, 1992).
What do you think?
How do we learn?
Active learning strategies refer to instructional
methods that actively engage learners in the
learning process, encouraging them to
participate, think critically, and apply their
knowledge.These strategies aim to enhance
understanding, retention, and application of
information
Establishing the Optimal Learning
Environment
Having compassion and empathy among
students.
Creating a secure and dependable structure.
Ramping up the positive behaviour and best
practices.
Teaching active listening.
Building collaborative relationships.
Strategy
The activities the teacher uses (often in a sequence) to
implement the lesson. In a program, strategies are often
prescribed in a set sequence. However, teachers often
change the activity or sequence based on how students
demonstrate their understanding of the material as the
lesson progresses.
-Teacher questions, student answers
- Collaborative learning
-Wait time
- Rubrics
Method
a system of teaching that addresses a pedagogical approach
to learning, emphasizes specific teaching strategies, and
provides an organizational management plan to implement
it.
- Direct Instruction
- Project-Based Learning
- Flipped Classroom
Approach
identifies how instructional material is presented, how
students interact with the instruction, and how learning is
assessed. The approach is often based on pedagogical theory
(how students learn).
-Teacher Centered
- Student Centered
- Lecture
- Facilitator
Activity
activities are the things we do to utilize a strategy.
activities are what students do to show their
comprehension of the topic at hand using any and all
strategies they know {for example...how to solve a
word problem}.
activities are generally content specific. They are the
tasks that we have the students complete, so that
we can monitor their mastery of certain skills or
content standards while implementing the
strategies.
Active learning is an approach to instruction that involves
actively engaging students with the course material through
discussions, problem solving, case studies, role plays and other
methods.Active learning approaches place a greater degree of
responsibility on the learner than passive approaches such as
lectures, but instructor guidance is still crucial in the active
learning classroom.Active learning activities may range in
length from a couple of minutes to whole class sessions or
may take place over multiple class sessions.
Some common active learning strategies
include
Group discussions
Problem-solving activities
Case studies
Role-playing
Hands-on experiments or simulations
Peer teaching
Reflective writing
