Tukwila School District 2017 WASA Community Award: Pastor Jan Bolerjacksara1beth
The Tukwila School District awards this year's Community Service recognition to Pastor Jan Bolerjack!
"I think she may be an actual angel." "She is the most selfless person I have ever met." "She is THE person to turn to when our families have nowhere else to go." These are just a few of the many, many accolades from counselors and social workers about Rev. Jan Bolerjack—aka Pastor Jan—of Riverton Park United Methodist. Her careers span education, nursing, and ministry, giving her a holistic approach to social justice and service. Pastor Jan's love of our students and overwhelming hope for the future is evident in all that she does. When one of our families runs out of resources and is simply at a dead end, Pastor Jan is there to take our call—whether it be with shelter in her church or its grounds, food from her community food pantry, clothes or hygiene items, or a work/health/social connection. She serves our elementaries as a substitute teacher. She actively promoted our successful 2016 bond measure. She led the fight for a higher local minimum wage. The list goes on and on. She is a true Tukwila treasure.

FOOD is a key input to WELLNESS which is a major component of QUALITY OF LIFE.
The SUPPLY CHAIN for FOOD is a big factor in ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION.
There is also a substantial amount of WASTE throughout the FOOD LIFE CYCLE which also is a factor in ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION.
Fundraising Campaign in support of Street child NepalAlice Lunardelli
This is a fundraising campaign in support of the NGO Street Child UK to help rebuild schools in the communities worst-affected by the earthquake in Nepal. I will join the Nepali team and work with them to implement projects and initiate new ones. Here's an overview of Street Child projects run in Nepal.
Our shared history of love as imparted to us by Sr. Mary Owens. In supporting the project now close to her heart, we build on the love she showered on us so freely.
This slide will provide guidelines to make your own NGO, with respect to its vision, Missons and Objectives. This is also beneficial for the students who are studying civic education and human rights.

1. WHAT WE DO…
We supply the tools of education: books and
other materials that are desperately needed in
Malawi.
Elias is six years old and not at school. Why?
“Ndilibe kope,” he replies, meaning he does not
have an exercise book. It is not only exercise
book, but Elias has no pencil either. Equipped
with both articles, little Elias is advised to cut his
pencil in half to avoid losing the entire essential
tool.
CHIWUNDENI’S STORY
“…If Malawi made a law that people who can’t
read and write should be killed I don’t know
what I would do. Then I would just be killed!”
The Good News
The good news is that since 1994 even if such a
law had been possible Chiwundeni would not be
killed. Primary school children no longer pay
fees.
The Bad News as L. B Mwakayuni currently
Head Teacher of Bandawe Girls Secondary
School explains “…the number of students per
class has been raised from fifty (50) to one
hundred (100)…” which means more
classrooms, desks, chairs, toilets, etc, are
required.
The Geography teacher continues…“…our
means of communication is largely letter
writing…to achieve speed…we sometimes…
travel on issues that would have been easily
addressed by phone. These continuously drain
our meagre financial resources…”
The “issues” include calling for ambulance if a
child falls sick or is injured. Schools need
bicycles and first aid facilities but they have
neither. In remote areas – assuming people there
know about ambulances, which the majority does
not – someone has to travel many miles on foot.
No wonder many people die [needlessly] in our
villages.
The Trustees of Vinjeru wish to support local
communities in their self-help schemes of
development work (chitukuko), such as making
bricks and building school blocks. We do not
give out money but our partner organisation in
Malawi suggests we could employ people and
pay them directly.
WHAT WE NEED
Donations- Picture books and dictionaries,
globes, modern atlases, maps, TOYS, rulers,
pencils, pens, musical instruments of all kinds.
Storage space – we need storage space in
London to store donations until money is raised
to ship the donations to Malawi.
Financial Aid - we need monetary donation for:
shipping donations to Malawi
building classroom and libraries
installing electricity in Malawi Head
Quarter
maintaining use of telephone system
buying a suitable vehicle for travel in the
most rural areas of Malawi, to help
deliver donations and monitor and
evaluate Vinjeru’s work.

“…it is good enough to give someone
knowledge rather than giving him money…”
(20 year-old Aaronie Silwamba, a former student of
Enukweni Community Day Secondary School.)
Vinjeru is a charitable organisation aiming to
support people like Aaronie in their endeavour to
get that knowledge, realise their potential and
gain financial independence.
