Tipp City Area United Way - 2016 LIVE UNITED CAMPAIGNbashfoo
The Tipp City Area United Way mission is "To improve lives by mobilizing community resources and partnerships to create sustained health and human service improvements in the Tipp City, Monroe and Bethel Townships."
Our Story
iFamile Emu Children’s Center was founded June 2014 by Akol Benyamen Jayjay with the help of 친구등록 and Anyango Maureen. The idea for the organization was born when Akol and 친구등록 visited the rural orphan children in Bukedea-Uganda. During this visit Akol saw many children under child labour with little to no access to basic necessities. Since then Anyango has remained actively involved as a Co-founder whilst Akol remains the heart and soul of iFamile Emu. It was at this time that he was so much moved with compassion and decided to start the iFamile Emu Children’s Center.
iFamile Emu means “One Family” in Luganda (It’s the most language used in the central Uganda). We have made all the necessary efforts to bring up the children as members of one family despite coming from different backgrounds. This makes our center stand out from the others because we care deeply not only for feeding, sheltering, clothing and educating them but we also care about the family values we are instilling in them at this early stage of their development. iFamile Emu strongly believes that working together as a family we can make a difference to the future of the children in our care today.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The Nyumbani Story
Nyumbani was founded in 1992
by an American Jesuit priest,
Father Angelo D’Agostino. In
the early 1990s, Father Angelo
D’Agostino discovered that
orphanages in Kenya were
turning away infants with HIV/
AIDS, so he took matters into his
own hands. He rented a
tenement and adopted three
abandoned HIV- positive infants.
Along with Sister Mary Owens, I.V.B.M., and a
dedicated staff, Father D’Agostino – who was also
a doctor and a psychiatrist – started Nyumbani
Children’sHomeonashoestring.Fromthebeginning,they
provided solace and care to babies and children with
HIV/AIDS. Soon, the three children became six, and the
six became 12. Nyumbani now serves more than 4,000
children every year.
Touching 4,000 lives
After the death of Father D’Agostino, Nyumbani is now
run by Sister Mary Owens IBVM, the Executive director.
She is supported by Father Agostino. Nyumbani has
since grown to serve more than 4,000 children per year
through the various programs
Nyumbani now has four programs that serve some of
the poorest and most vulnerable populations of children,
the elderly, and families affected by the devastating HIV/
AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa

Our Shared history
Sister Mary Owens IBVM has been a teacher,
psychotherapist and religious leader. In these roles she
has set a strong Christian foundation for many Loreto
Girls and provided guidance and counselling in ways that
most of us are only now just beginning to comprehend.
We all have a different story to tell of how Sister Mary
and Loreto impacted our lives forever.
Practicing Our Shared Values
Sister Mary Owens is impacting generations from great
grandparents to their children. We can support her by
putting into practice our shared values from our time
in Loreto of kindness generosity and caring for those
who are in need. Opportunities that exist to serve and
support Nyumbani are listed below
1. Giving
The Loreto alumni and community are well placed to
give goods and services as may be needed by Nyumbani.
These could include legal services for the dependents of
Nyumbani, technical support and professional services,
food, clothes and any other donations the home may
need.
2. Providing Employment and
internship opportunities
The first generations of Nyumbani children are now
adults seeking internships and job opportunities. Loreto
alumni can support them by providing references and
opportunities and promoting a stigma free environment
in their organizations.
5. 5
3. Volunteers
Nyumbani programs value a global group of willing and
enthusiastic volunteers. Loreto alumni and their families
can plan and participate in these programs.
Celebrating 25 years of
Nyumbani
This year Nyumbani turns 25 years. The Loreto
Alumniwouldliketobepartofthiscelebrationbymakinga
contribution towards a project that will lead to the
continued sustainability of Nyumbani.
After several discussions with Sister Mary over the last
2 years, we have identified the need to support tertiary
education for the children. Due to heath related issues a
number of Nyumbani children do not make it to the
university. To empower these children to be independent
Nyumbani funds tertiary education at local colleges and
polytechnics. We propose to start a fund to support the
tertiary education of the children.
The cost of funding each child for three years is
estimated at USD 5,000. We would like to raise funds to
support at least one child by the anniversary celebration
date of 28 November 2017.
Contributions and
Accountability
We have opened a Kenya Shilling Account and USD
Account run by 4 volunteer alumni of
Loreto Limuru. The volunteers are:
Patricia Kamiri Mbote
Jacinta Nabangi
Vuhya Obeda Amulyoto
