In this day and age, you don’t have to be a manager or have a position of power to become a leader. Anyone can become a leader. Why? Because leadership is about attitude, not position. It’s about influence, not power. It’s about the ability to communicate effectively, not the ability to make money.
However, many staff-level employees don’t see themselves as leaders. Sadly, many even see themselves as victims of their own leaders and managers. Many more lack the confidence to simply do their jobs right.
Our “Effective Supervision and Staff Leadership” course is designed to bring out the leader in all of us by effectively communicating our information, opinions and needs. This unique course recognizes the fact that great leaders are, first and foremost, effective communicators. But, that’s not all.
Our two-day course will also tackle many important traits of highly effective leaders; such as: assertiveness, negotiation skills, critical thinking, planning and preparedness, influential behavior, and many more.
OBJECTIVES:
By attending this course, participants will be able to:
1. Define staff leadership and calculate their motivation to become staff leaders in the workplace
2. Measure their understanding of themselves and others as well as identify the traits they will need to help them in their leadership and supervisory roles
3. Categorize their styles of staff leadership and identify the styles that will be most effective for their supervisory roles in the organization
4. Align their personal goals with the organizations goals
5. Demonstrate critical and solution-based thinking
6. Apply effective communication techniques and styles to enhance their leadership and supervisory skills
7. Facilitate their work teams effectively
8. Utilize win-win concepts even when communicating assertively
The document discusses the importance of communication skills for leadership. It states that effective communication is the most important leadership skill, as leaders spend over 80% of their time communicating. It then lists several traits of an effective leader and different types of leadership communication. The summary concludes that poor leadership communication can be very costly, while effective communication allows leaders to transform organizations, connect with others, and inspire employees.
The animals of the forest gathered to choose a leader. The elephant, snake, hare, and peacock all argued they should lead but the other animals objected to each for valid reasons. The lion then argued it should lead because it possesses the qualities of kindness, courage, and wisdom that the animals want to see in themselves and their leader. The animals agreed and unanimously voted for the lion to become their leader and the king of the jungle.
If you could enhance a single trait about yourself with the objective of improving your success, your happiness and your effectiveness, what would it be?
Your intelligence?
Your empathy?
Your height?
Well, I'm here to inform you that improving your confidence will earn you the best results 99 percent of the time.
To put it another way, all those self-help books telling you to take vitamins to become smarter, to exercise more, or to put a lump of butter in your coffee are barking up the wrong tree.
You can truly achieve anything if you have self-confidence.
This may appear to be the type of advice you'd hear from a poster depicting someone striking the air in front of a sunset. It may sound like something your mother would say to you, but you feel she isn't really saying it.
This is not fiction. Self-confidence has a significant impact on how you approach each circumstance, how others see you, and how you emerge from each engagement.
This book will teach you everything you need to boost your confidence, overcome social anxiety, and empower your life for success.

This document summarizes chapters 3-5 from the book "Tales for Change" by Margaret Parkin.
Chapter 3 discusses the role of leaders and teams, highlighting that leaders must protect their organization's identity and values. Chapter 4 explores using stories to help manage stress by prioritizing what's important, not dwelling on the past, and being content with what you have. Chapter 5 examines how stories can develop emotional intelligence by increasing self-awareness and understanding other perspectives.
The document discusses lessons that can be learned from the African lion and applied to leadership in the corporate world. It notes that a leader's message should be clear and delivered in a way that prevents distortion as it moves down the hierarchy. Leaders should directly deliver certain important messages and not rely solely on written communication. When interacting with employees, leaders should walk lightly and influence through respect rather than intimidation in order to build a positive culture. Experience, authenticity, and strong moral character are what truly earn respect from others.
1) The document discusses how to build a great team based on research of animal behaviors in nature. It analyzes how different animal species like tigers, eagles, bears, wolves, cats, dogs, and ducks can provide lessons for effective team building.
2) Ducks are presented as the ideal model as they work cooperatively in V formations to travel long distances efficiently. Each duck takes turns leading and shares the work load.

This document discusses establishing yourself as the pack leader or alpha in your household in order to address behavioural problems in dogs. It explains that dogs are pack animals and view their human owners as members of their pack. By asserting yourself as the dominant pack member through your body language, energy, and consistent rules, you can help your dog understand the social structure and help reduce unwanted behaviours like aggression, chewing, barking, jumping etc. The document provides strategies for demonstrating pack leadership during activities like walking, feeding, interacting with the dog and handling behaviours. The overall message is that being a strong but fair leader can help dogs feel more secure and obedient.
For Us To Think (What can we learn from Animals?)Seena Zarie
Ants demonstrate strong teamwork, planning, seriousness, ability to face challenges, and initiative - all characteristics positive people should cultivate. Bees work for the benefit of others through honey production. Spiders demonstrate perfection in their webs but have weak homes. Creatures like camels, cows, dogs and lions display patience, productivity, loyalty, warning abilities and bravery. Animals such as squirrels, cheetahs and giraffes move fast, protect themselves, and make good use of their abilities. Positive people should learn to seize opportunities, adapt to their environment, defend themselves, and avoid harmful or ugly characteristics.
The document outlines the stages of personal growth in "The Great Game of Life":
1) Innocence describes being born with unlimited potential but lacking life experiences and subject to negative conditioning.
2) Self-conditioning discusses how people unconsciously condition themselves to cultural beliefs that later interfere with potential.
3) The Awakening stage sees people motivated to change due to crisis, evolution, or creative anticipation of possibilities.
4) Self-fulfillment is reached by reducing interference through awareness, thought changes, and reclaiming one's true potential to freely access it.
If your nonprofit organization is struggling and unable to overcome complex trends, shortfalls, and environmental changes, who should be blamed? Leadership, of course. Absorb 10 leadership skills from the animal kingdom.
The document provides a summary of key concepts from Stephen Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". It discusses that the book focuses on paradigms and how they shape behaviors and thoughts. It outlines the seven habits, including being proactive by consciously choosing responses, beginning with the end in mind by creating a mission statement to guide decisions, and becoming principle-centered rather than focused on temporary satisfactions.
The document provides guidance on maintaining inner peace and composure when facing difficulties or reacting to others. It suggests observing thoughts without judgment, living in the present moment, accepting external situations as temporary without internalizing them, and finding one's true self beyond mental identities and roles.
The document provides information about counseling services offered by Metamorphosis Life Skills. It discusses what counseling involves, common misconceptions about counseling, and answers frequently asked questions. The three main points are:
1) Counseling is a process of growth, empowerment, and learning new skills to deal with difficulties rather than a sign of weakness. It can help anyone going through a tough time.
2) A counselor provides an unbiased listener, helps explore issues from different perspectives, and equips clients with new skills through talking and support.
3) Many myths about counseling are dispelled, such as it only being for severe mental illness, implying incompetence, or requiring long-term treatment
This document provides guidance on reducing behavior problems in shelter animals through proper care, enrichment, training, and handling. It emphasizes that animals in shelters experience stress and may act out due to unmet needs. To help animals feel safe and reduce handler stress, the document recommends providing food, water, shelter, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training. It advises observing animal body language, filling out behavior reports for problems, avoiding punishment and corrections, and getting guidance from behavior specialists for challenging animals. Photos illustrate dog body language cues and a quiz tests the reader's ability to assess whether dogs depicted are safe to handle based on their postures and expressions.

Granger discusses four laws of fulfillment and uses the metaphor of an eagle's journey to inspire the audience to achieve their potential and live fulfilling lives. He calls the audience to action with "Alex's A Game" which involves dreaming big with a clear plan, using affirmations to believe in goals and oneself, taking action while enjoying the process, and asserting oneself to never give up.
The document discusses how elephants are trained from a young age to believe they cannot break free from restraints like ropes, even when they are fully grown adults. It suggests that humans also impose self-limiting beliefs on themselves that are not real. To be successful, one must change their negative inner belief systems and attitudes, just as the elephants' limitations exist only in their minds. With determination and God's help, people have the inner strength to change ingrained habits and characteristics. The key is to never act like the elephants and accept perceived limitations.
The document provides 10 steps to help one live their best life. The steps include being real, truthful, in charge of oneself, aware, responsible for one's experiences, energized, loving, compassionate, masterful of opportunities, and being the change one seeks. Managing stress involves accepting what cannot be controlled, avoiding stressors, expressing feelings, adapting, having a positive attitude, being assertive not aggressive, practicing relaxation techniques, getting rest, and seeking social support. Reading is important for knowledge but schools do not always emphasize it well. Parents should read to children and encourage reading to improve lives. Life has hard times but also beautiful matters, so one should enjoy time and make oneself and others happy.

Living an extraordinary life is more about being than doing. Pay attention to how one shows up each day and be the person you want to spend your life with.

Leadership Lessons
1.
2. When it comes to being a leader,
there are plenty of recourses all
around us from which inspiration
can be drawn.
Following are some of those
inspirations:-
4. The Real Flavor Comes Through When The Teabag Gets Into Hot
Water
To get the best flavor, we
need to put the tea bag into
hot water. And then the real
strength will show! Likewise,
the true character of a
person actually shines
through in problems. How
does a person behave under
pressure, when he is in ‘hot
water’? The hot water test is
a good one – to judge the
quality of the tea and the
true character of human
beings.
5. Good Teabag Look Forward To Getting Into Hot Water
Leaders know it will give
them a chance to show their
true worth. So next time you
see a challenge, a tough
situation, think like a tea bag
and dive headlong into it. It
may be the opportunity
you’ve been waiting for to
show what you are capable
of.
6. Teabags Work, Never Mind Where They Are In The Cup
Notice wherever the tea bag
is placed inside the cup –
high, low, vertical,
horizontal, it does not
matter at all. The tea bag
would influence hot water.
Likewise, for true leaders. It
does not matter which
position they hold within
the team. They would
always stand out and
benefit the whole team.
7. Sometimes, You Need To Add Some Milk And Sugar
Sometimes tea itself is not
enough to serve as a perfect
beverage. We add milk and
sugar to enhance its taste.
Similarly, the leader also
need support of his team
members and he himself
need to add more qualities
and knowledge to himself so
that everyone is able to
extract their own
requirements and are
satisfied.
9. Honest Communication And Sharing Information Is At The
Heart Of The Team
Bees use vibrations and
pheromones to help pass
complex messages. We have
so much technology to help us
communicate; let’s not forget
that using it with honesty is
they key to excellent
communication
10. Co-operation Is The Key To Success
Though the individuals are
small, behaving as a single
organism and working to a
common goal means that
great things can be achieved
together
11. Division Of Labour And Thorough Training Can Be Highly
Efficient
As bees mature, they move through all
the jobs in the hive before becoming
food gatherers. This means that they all
know how to perform a whole range of
jobs and in an emergency situation they
can revert to former occupations to lend
a hand. This is the key to enviable
flexibility and adaptability.
12. Bee Prepared
Bees make honey while the sun
shines, they store the extra food
when times are good as they know
that there may be leaner times
around the corner. Again, this
allows flexibility and confidence in
tomorrow.
13. The Leader Is Truly The Servant Of All
We tend to think of the ‘Queen
Bee’ as the leader of the hive,
sitting regally whilst her workers
bring home the nectar. In truth, the
queen is the servant of the team,
laying the eggs to ensure the future
survival of the colony. It’s the team
behaving as one, in pursuit of a
common goal which brings success,
not a leader laying down the rules.
15. THE LEADER OF THE HERD HAS A VISION
The Leader of a herd has the Vision. Yet they do not drive the
others - they lead by example. They protect and nurture the
young and old; engaging and communicating with each
individual within their community. This ensures everyone
understands what is happening before and during activities
with a minimum of surprises
16. Choosing The Right Team Members
Elephants, like humans, can’t
always choose who they work
with, but they can build
relations with those in their
herd. They can make sound
choices about who they bring
into the herd in the future and
they can choose the best ways
to manage “rogues”. Elephants
develop and thrive on
community with every one
chipping in to support each
other.
17. Communication Is The Key
In every elephant herd,
communication is key. Not
something talked about - it is
the way decisions are made
and actions taken. Also, it is
not about the leader telling
everyone what they should
do. The leader makes time to
listen to the members of their
herd and consider their
perspective before changes
are made that affect the
entire herd
18. Focus On Continuous Improvements
The leader of every elephant herd
is constantly and unrelentingly
focused on observing and making
little improvements. They sense
that every little improvement adds
up to a stronger and sustainable
herd. Elephant leaders encourage
their group to make the effort to
see new ways to weather hard
times and seek out new food
sources or ways to reach the food.
20. Quiet Confidence, Quiet Self-assurance
The main characteristic of an
alpha male wolf ‘is a quiet
confidence, quiet self-
assurance. You know what you
need to do; you know what’s
best for your pack. You lead by
example. You’re very
comfortable with that. You
have a calming effect.’
21. Patience
The alpha male wolf is not
aggressive. They don’t need to be.
‘Think of an emotionally secure
man, or a great champion.
Whatever he needed to prove is
already proven.’
22. Team First
An alpha male may be a major
player in a successful hunt but
then, after the take down of
prey, may step away and sleep
until his pack has eaten and is
full.
23. One Team One Family
An alpha male does not act
aggressively toward the
pack members. They are
his family.
24. Defend The Family At Any Cost
An Alpha male is fierce in defence of family and apparently never back
down in a fight with a rival pack. Yet within his own pack, one of his
favourite things is to wrestle with little pups and pretend to loose
26. Ants Aren’t Intimidated By The Size Of Their Workload
Ants aren’t intimidated by the
sheer size of the objects that
they need to carry, so why should
we?
27. Ants Value Teamwork
A single ant can only do so much, but
when they work as a team, they are
able to achieve greater heights!
28. Ants Are Organized
They are so organized in how they carry out their tasks that they
are able to accomplish it no matter how big the task is.
29. Ants Save for Rainy Days
Ants try to carry the food to their ant
colony and save-up for the rainy days
;when applying this to your business,
it isn’t wise to keep on spending the
moment you see the slightest
available cash you can spend.
Remember that you can never really
tell what might happen in the future
31. A Lion’s Roar Can Be Heard From Five Miles Away
LESSON: Make yourself heard
You may have good intentions in mind,
but if you don’t say them out, nobody
will know how noble they are.
32. Lions Are Very Social Animals; They Form Groups Called Prides
With Sometimes As Many As Forty Individuals In a Pride
LESSON: Interact With
Others So That You Can Get
Better
The leader should recognize
himself as a river feeding
others and being fed by
others in turn. A river which
isolates itself, which feeds
nothing and which nothing
feeds will sooner or later start
to stink or dry up.
33. A Lion Can Spend Up To 20 Hours A Day Sleeping
LESSON: There Is a Difference
between a Leader and a Slave,
Find Time to Relax
If you want to have an enjoyable
life, learn to not let activity
dominate your life. Find time to
relax
34. Lions Rarely Eat Entire Prey, They Usually Leave Leftovers For
Other Animals Like Hyenas AND Vultures
LESSON: the ability to share is the hallmark of a leader
35. Male Lions defend the pride’s territory while females go to
hunt. Despite this the male gets to eat first
LESSON:
Learn how to
delegate responsibility
