Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in developed countries. There is growing evidence that earlier diagnosis of lung cancer is an important factor in improving outcomes. Despite this, there is surprisingly little qualitative research that documents lung cancer patients' diagnostic pathway and beyond.
This document contains personal and educational information for Hasnain Raza Shah. It summarizes that he received his M.Phil in Physics from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2016, with his thesis evaluating different tissue equivalent materials for radiation therapy. He received his MSc in Physics from the same university in 2012, with his thesis on the role of positron emission mammography in breast cancer detection. This document summarizes preliminary results from a study examining pathways to lung cancer diagnosis among participants in the 45 and Up Study. The study analyzed health services data from general practitioners, hospitals, and specialists in the year leading up to a lung cancer diagnosis for 363 participants. The results showed that over 1 in 3 participants saw a general practitioner, had medical imaging ordered, and saw a lung specialist before their first emergency hospital admission. Nearly 1 in 4 participants had an emergency hospital admission as their first contact with the healthcare system after being diagnosed. The study aims to further analyze treatment pathways and compare service utilization of lung cancer patients to similar individuals without lung cancer.

Feedback from a session indicated that students were well engaged and enjoyed learning about skills like multitasking, flexibility, time management, attention to detail, problem solving, and teamwork. Resilience is necessary as failure is common in science and competition for jobs is fierce.

Evidence is yet to identify optimal method of nutrition intervention and timing across all tumour stages in this population.

Premkumar Reddy, director of experimental cancer therapeutics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, was honored by Temple University School of Medicine for his 18 years heading their Fels Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Biology. Temple University School of Medicine has a history in fighting cancer. In September 2013 they held a daylong symposium to honor Dr. Reddy, where nine of his colleagues spoke about cancer biology and treatments. Dr. Reddy himself thanked attendees and discussed an anti-cancer treatment he developed while at Temple.

Dr. Roberto Weigert will give a presentation titled "Molecular Mechanism of Membrane remodeling in Live Animals by Subcellular Intravital Microscopy". He is a Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Using subcellular intravital microscopy, his research studies membrane remodeling during trafficking events in live animals.
Charles Curran, who has extensive experience in Australian business and public life, will give a talk reflecting on economic and political developments in Australia over the last 50 years. As the Chairman of Capital Investment Group and a member of Goldman Sachs' International Board of Advisors, Curran has chaired or been a director of several public companies. He has also held leadership roles in many community organizations, including as Chairman of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and St Vincent's Hospital Sydney.

Peter Vogt, a professor at The Scripps Research Institute, will give a lecture titled "MYC and the Non-coding Transcriptome" at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research on November 9, 2015. Vogt was trained as a virologist in Germany and California and his work focuses on retroviral replication, viral and cellular oncogenes, and identifying inhibitors of oncoproteins. He has held faculty positions at several universities and is currently a professor at The Scripps Research Institute studying MYC and non-coding RNA transcripts.

Frederic Meunier is an Associate Professor at the Queensland Brain Institute at the University of Queensland. He will be giving a talk titled "New horizons in vesicular trafficking research" on November 25th, 2013 at 12PM in the NAB Auditorium, hosted by Professor Herbert Herzog. Meunier obtained his BSc and Ph.D in Neurobiology and has worked in the UK and Australia. As the leader of his research group at UQ, he has attracted over $9 million in funding to study neuronal vesicular trafficking in health and disease.

When I was asked to give a companion lecture in support of ‘The Philosophy of Science’ (https://shorturl.at/4pUXz) I decided not to walk through the detail of the many methodologies in order of use. Instead, I chose to employ a long standing, and ongoing, scientific development as an exemplar. And so, I chose the ever evolving story of Thermodynamics as a scientific investigation at its best.
Conducted over a period of >200 years, Thermodynamics R&D, and application, benefitted from the highest levels of professionalism, collaboration, and technical thoroughness. New layers of application, methodology, and practice were made possible by the progressive advance of technology. In turn, this has seen measurement and modelling accuracy continually improved at a micro and macro level.
Perhaps most importantly, Thermodynamics rapidly became a primary tool in the advance of applied science/engineering/technology, spanning micro-tech, to aerospace and cosmology. I can think of no better a story to illustrate the breadth of scientific methodologies and applications at their best.
The technology uses reclaimed CO₂ as the dyeing medium in a closed loop process. When pressurized, CO₂ becomes supercritical (SC-CO₂). In this state CO₂ has a very high solvent power, allowing the dye to dissolve easily.

The pygmy halfbeak Dermogenys colletei, is known for its viviparous nature, this presents an intriguing case of relatively low fecundity, raising questions about potential compensatory reproductive strategies employed by this species. Our study delves into the examination of fecundity and the Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) in the Pygmy Halfbeak, D. colletei (Meisner, 2001), an intriguing viviparous fish indigenous to Sarawak, Borneo. We hypothesize that the Pygmy halfbeak, D. colletei, may exhibit unique reproductive adaptations to offset its low fecundity, thus enhancing its survival and fitness. To address this, we conducted a comprehensive study utilizing 28 mature female specimens of D. colletei, carefully measuring fecundity and GSI to shed light on the reproductive adaptations of this species. Our findings reveal that D. colletei indeed exhibits low fecundity, with a mean of 16.76 ± 2.01, and a mean GSI of 12.83 ± 1.27, providing crucial insights into the reproductive mechanisms at play in this species. These results underscore the existence of unique reproductive strategies in D. colletei, enabling its adaptation and persistence in Borneo's diverse aquatic ecosystems, and call for further ecological research to elucidate these mechanisms. This study lends to a better understanding of viviparous fish in Borneo and contributes to the broader field of aquatic ecology, enhancing our knowledge of species adaptations to unique ecological challenges.
The binding of cosmological structures by massless topological defectsSérgio Sacani
Assuming spherical symmetry and weak field, it is shown that if one solves the Poisson equation or the Einstein field
equations sourced by a topological defect, i.e. a singularity of a very specific form, the result is a localized gravitational
field capable of driving flat rotation (i.e. Keplerian circular orbits at a constant speed for all radii) of test masses on a thin
spherical shell without any underlying mass. Moreover, a large-scale structure which exploits this solution by assembling
concentrically a number of such topological defects can establish a flat stellar or galactic rotation curve, and can also deflect
light in the same manner as an equipotential (isothermal) sphere. Thus, the need for dark matter or modified gravity theory is
mitigated, at least in part.

Abstract: Equivariant neural networks are neural networks that incorporate symmetries. The nonlinear activation functions in these networks result in interesting nonlinear equivariant maps between simple representations, and motivate the key player of this talk: piecewise linear representation theory.

known as the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Currently, she leads Prostate Cancer Research at Monash University and at the Peter MacCallum Cancer
Centre, Victorian Comprehensive cancer Centre where her team is an internationally recognised research team of scientists and clinicians working on prostate
cancer and Andrology related projects. As one of Australia’s leading prostate cancer researchers, she pioneered the use of stem cells for recombination studies
combining stem cell biology with endocrinology. She also holds positions of Deputy Dean, Special Projects, FMNHS; Research Director of Monash Partners
Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (MpCCC) and Chair, Faculty Research Centres & Institutes Committee as well as advisory roles in Andrology Australia and
the Freemason’s Foundation Centre for Men’s Health. Her academic and industry collaborations have built infrastructure and trained a workforce required to
