2. This is a slide show about Bilbies and how they live and survive
in the wild.
3. All Bilbies live in deserts in Australia making them
Australian animals. They live in burrows.
4. Bilbies are omnivores which means they eat both plants and
animals. They mostly eat ants, grasshoppers, larvae, fruit,
fungi, seeds, termites and occasionally they will snack on small
mammals.
5. Bilbies are excellent burrowers because they have long claws
and strong forelimbs . They build spiralling burrows they dig
them up to two metres deep. Bilbies will have many burrows.
If it is windy or rainy during the night it will keep the Bilbies
in their burrows.
6. Bilbies babies are called Joeys. Joeys are carried around in their
mothers pouches. Bilbies usually have two Joeys at a time but
can sometimes have three Joeys. The Joey can be in the
mothers pouch for up to 70 or 80 days once it is born.
7. Bilbies are small marsupials. They have large ears and a long
tail. They have hairless ears and a tiny pink nose. Their
smooth-looking fur is grey but the inside of their ears are
pink.
