The greater bilby

 1. 1. The greater bilby
By Ben and Ash
2. 2. what does it look like?
The greater bilby is a bandicoot with long ears and a pointed snout. Both sexes are covered with silky blue and silver fur. The bilby’s nose and inner ears are pale pink and its feet are white.
3. 3. Were does it live?
It lives in western Australia and southern Queensland. It used to live in 2 3rds of Australia except for the wettest and coldest southwest and southeast corners. Now it lives in burrows across the plains.
4. 4. How does it breed?
The female can produce up to four litters per year, with usually one or two joeys per litter. Her pregnancy lasts just two weeks and the joeys stay in her pouch for ten weeks. They can start to breed when they are less than six months old!
5. 5. Why is it endangered?
The bilby is vulnerable to extinction. It’s burrow is no match for a hungry fox! Bush fires can destroyits habitat. However, in places free of foxes and grazing animals, such as Peron Peninsula, the bilby is making a comeback to its habitat.
6. 6. The end
Thank you for listening 3C.
We hope you have learned a lot
