What is a Shoreline Management Plan?
Developed in partnership by local authorities, regulators and other stakeholders, a Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) is a high level non-statutory policy document designed to assist coastal flood and erosion risk management planning. It provides a large-scale assessment of the risks (to people, property, the natural and historic environment) associated with coastal erosion and flooding at the coast over the long-term. It also proposes policies to help manage these risks sustainably over the next hundred years.
The SMP enables planners and regulators to plan for and manage the way that the coast will change. This could be by maintaining or improving defences, by enabling the natural processes to play a greater role, creating new natural habitat or by helping areas that are at risk of flooding at some point in the future to cope with and limit the impact of flooding events.
The SMP2 for the Severn Estuary updates an earlier SMP1 (2000) for the estuary. It aims to provide more certainty for landowners, residents and businesses; to know how the coast will be managed by regulators during the next 100 years, so that they can plan ahead and make decisions about investments, homes, development and the management of their resources.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

19. What is a River Basin Management Plan (RBMP)?
• An holistic and integrated approach for water resources management
and aquatic ecosystems,
• In order to improve population health, water resources and ecosystems,
to foster development, and consistency of sectoral policies.
• A planning document, developed in accordance with an established
methodology, elaborated with public participation, and respect to local
beliefs,
• A non-technical and clear document with a legal scope for decision
makers and to enhancing awareness.
• Content: characterisation of River Basin (pressures, status); diagnosis and
main issues; trends and objectives; programme of measures and
dashboard.

• Reach the good status of surface waters (ecological and chemical) and
groundwaters (chemical and quantitative),
• No deterioration,
•Objectives to reach in protected areas,
•To suppress the discharges of prioritary dangerous substances in 20
years and
et to reduce emissions of prioritary substances
Environmental objectives:
26. 26
Some objectives and obligations of results
OBLIGATIONS OF RESULTS FOR ALL THE BODIES
All the aquatic bodies are concerned :
rivers and streams, lakes, groundwaters, coastal
zone… wetlands…
A stong ambition clearly expressed : obligations of
results :
–« Going in the right way» isn’t sufficient…
– The good status in 2015 has to be reached… unless motivated
derogations…
27. 27
Reinforcement of economical approach
The text of the Water Framework Directive is introducing a deep
use of economical analysis in the process of integrated basin
management.
Optimising the choice of measures
– Use of cost-effectiveness analysis for the definition of the programme of
measures
Justifying the derogations to objectives
– Use of cost-benefit analysis to justify time delays and lower
objectives for the water bodies
Assessment of the cost recovery for water services
– Including environmental and ressource costs
Economic analysis, a decision tool for :

Public participation:
« Success of this Directive relies on close cooperation and coherent action at
Community, Member State and local level as well as on information, consultation and
involvement of the public, including users. » (Preamble 14 of WFD)
1) « Member States shall encourage the active involvement of all
interested parties in the implementation of this Directive, in particular in the
production, review and updating of the river basin management plans. »
Notion of active participation of interested parties
2) « Member States shall ensure that, for each river basin district, they
publish and make available for comments to the public, including users »
3) « On request, access shall be given to background documents and
information used for the development of the draft river basin management
plan.».
Notion of information and consultation of public
Article 14 of the Directive:
29. 29
Public participation:
must be ensured
Access to information for the
public all along the process
Consultation is concerning only
three steps of elaboration of
management plan (2006 to 2008)
and targets public
Must be encouraged

The notion ofWater Body
On a basin, homogeneous units of diagnostic are defined; the Water Bodies.
They are delineated from morphological, biological, geological,
hydrological… conditions. The delineation is based on criteria given in
the text of WFD and detailed in european workgroups

2. Initial characterisation
38. First step, initial characterisation
- Describe the basin (water bodies, typology
...);
- Describe the human occupation of the
territory;
- Describe the pressures of human activities
on aquatic environments
- Describes the status of water bodies
- Derive an assessment of impacts;
- Predict the risk of not achieving the goals by
2021;
- Assessment of cost recovery.
48. Status : condition of aWB resulting from natural and
anthropogenic factors (= potential)
Status can be : High, good, moderate, poor, or bad.
Depending on ecological, hydromorphological, chemical and
quantitative parameters

52. Data management
the task of the contractor will include:
-To collect the necessary datasets at the level of the producers;
-To work with the data producers in order that the dataset provided are described on line
into the metadata catalogue made available by the project;
-To copy the raw data made available by each producer on the FTP made available by the
project.
The corresponding expected results can be formulated as follow:
-All datasets used are described in English and in Russian (at least) into the metadata
catalogue;
-All raw dataset used are available on FTP.
The letter of request for data should include the obligation that the data producer
provides the corresponding metadata sheet fulfilled.
