2. • An Instructor comes to you looking to enhance
his class with some technology based activity.
• You ask what they are doing in class and what the
objectives are for the lesson
• The students are doing a bit of data mining of the
different Latin American countries.
• The instructor isn’t exactly sure of her objectives
but knows she wants to have the students do
some kind of analysis of the data.
3. • After some thought you suggest an online
collaborative activity using Google
Spreadsheets
• You create a template for the students using
the categories provided by the instructor
4. • The students are separated into pairs and
assigned a country. They work collaboratively
to find and fill in the data.
5. • Next, each group is given one of the
categories, Poulation, Literacy, ect. and asked
to make a horizontal bar chart and add it to
the shared document.
• Students may need help at this point creating
charts
6. • Ideally, all of the charts would be added to the
Google spreadsheet for analysis.
• However, at this point, it may be necessary to
download the spreadsheet into Excel if the
Google charts become a little glichy.
• Pictures of the charts in Excel could then be
added to a shared Google doc.
7.
8. • Now the students have a collaborative visual
representation of the data from which to do
their analysis.
• I suggested an open ended question for
analysis:
• Which countries would be the best place for
women to live?
