With specific reference to
Rahul C. Mahida
 Labour welfare is an important dimension of industrial
relations which includes overall welfare facilities
designed to take care of well being of employee's and
in order to increase their standard of living.
 It means the adoption of measures to promote the
physical, social, psychological and general well being
of the working people.
 Welfare basically means- wellness, health, happiness, cordial
relations, prosperity.
 It is a desirable state of existence involving the physical,
mental, moral and emotional stability.
 Labour welfare are the voluntary efforts by the management.
 Industrial/labour welfare also refers to the Statutory and
voluntary efforts made for betterment of the labour.
 Prof. Richardson includes under it “any arrangement of
working conditions which contribute to the workers health and
safety, comfort, efficiency, economic security, education and
recreation”.
The Objectives and principles of labour welfare includes,
• Necessary for Industrial System.
• Rural and agriculture turns to urban and Industry.
• Key role in Economic Development.
• Need felt seriously by the Royal Commission of labour
in 1931.
• Increases the employees belonging towards org.
• Encourages Healthy and cordial relationships
•Improvement and Development of employees.
•High standards of work, apart from other labour
legislations.
• Improvement in Quality of work life (QWL)
• Improve the Industrial system, and conditions of
work.
• Enhance sense of belonging, responsibility and
dignity among the employees.
.
 The factories act,1948 comprises 11 chapters
and 120 sections with a schedule listing
notiffiable diseases.
 Section 42 to 50 – provides statutory welfare
measures to be provided for welfare of its
workers
 Section 42: Washing facilities
 Section 43: Facilities for storing and drying clothing
 Section 44: Facilities for sitting
 Section 45: First-aid appliances
 Section 46: Canteens
 Section 47: Shelters, Restrooms and Lunchrooms
 Section 48: Creches
 Section 49: welfare officers
 Section 50: Power to make rules to supplement this
chapter The state government may make rules-
 Exempting, subject to compliance with such alternative
arrangements for the welfare of workers as may be
prescribed, any factory or class or description of
factories from compliance with any of the provisions of
this chapter
 Requiring in any factory or class or description of
factories that representatives of workers employed in
the factory shall be associated with management of
welfare arrangement of the workers

Labour welfare & fctory act

  • 2.  Labour welfare is an important dimension of industrial relations which includes overall welfare facilities designed to take care of well being of employee's and in order to increase their standard of living.  It means the adoption of measures to promote the physical, social, psychological and general well being of the working people.
  • 3.  Welfare basically means- wellness, health, happiness, cordial relations, prosperity.  It is a desirable state of existence involving the physical, mental, moral and emotional stability.  Labour welfare are the voluntary efforts by the management.  Industrial/labour welfare also refers to the Statutory and voluntary efforts made for betterment of the labour.  Prof. Richardson includes under it “any arrangement of working conditions which contribute to the workers health and safety, comfort, efficiency, economic security, education and recreation”.

The Objectives and principles of labour welfare includes, • Necessary for Industrial System. • Rural and agriculture turns to urban and Industry. • Key role in Economic Development. • Need felt seriously by the Royal Commission of labour in 1931. • Increases the employees belonging towards org. • Encourages Healthy and cordial relationships
  • 5. •Improvement and Development of employees. •High standards of work, apart from other labour legislations. • Improvement in Quality of work life (QWL) • Improve the Industrial system, and conditions of work. • Enhance sense of belonging, responsibility and dignity among the employees.

  • 10.  The factories act,1948 comprises 11 chapters and 120 sections with a schedule listing notiffiable diseases.  Section 42 to 50 – provides statutory welfare measures to be provided for welfare of its workers
  • 11.  Section 42: Washing facilities  Section 43: Facilities for storing and drying clothing  Section 44: Facilities for sitting  Section 45: First-aid appliances  Section 46: Canteens  Section 47: Shelters, Restrooms and Lunchrooms  Section 48: Creches  Section 49: welfare officers
  • 12.  Section 50: Power to make rules to supplement this chapter The state government may make rules-  Exempting, subject to compliance with such alternative arrangements for the welfare of workers as may be prescribed, any factory or class or description of factories from compliance with any of the provisions of this chapter  Requiring in any factory or class or description of factories that representatives of workers employed in the factory shall be associated with management of welfare arrangement of the workers
