3. • The Mayor: Marián Mihalda (2021)
• The town is situated in the North of Slovakia
in Žilina region.
• It‘s 11 kilometers away from Žilina which is
the nearest big town.
• Slovak capital city Bratislava is in the south
of the country meanwhile our town is in the
north: their distance is 204 km.
• Population: nearly 15 000 inhabitants
• There are many kindergartens, 3 primary
schools and 3 high schools.
• We don‘t have any hospital, but there is a
health centre. Basic shops can be found on
Belanského Street - the main street going
from the park to Liberty Square. There are 3
supermarkets.
• INA and ZVL factory + some smaller
factories provide work for people living in the
town and in the region. INA and ZVL produce
car components.
4. • Town districts: Dúbie, Suľkov, Budatínska
Lehota, Oškerda - mainly zones with
detached, semi-detached or terraced houses
with gardens around/close to houses.
• Kamence – the upper town part with blocks
of flats built during communiste season in
the 1960s - 70s.
• The lower part of the town, Clementisova
Street, also consists of blocks of flats, but
they are older, smaller and built of bricks.

6. The Liberty Square – the houses there
are one of the most valuable
monuments in Kysuce Region. The
houses were built in the 17th century.
Annual fair has been held on the
square every year since 1666. It‘s like
a market where you can buy a lot of
different things, for example: food,
balloons, clothes, jewellery, etc. In the
evening there are also a few concerts.
Municipal Town Hall - The Mayor
works there. There‘s also a municipal
police. It‘s located on The Liberty
Square.
Churches - We have 2 churches in our
town. They have their own names, but
we call them as the „upper and lower“
churches. The upper church is known
as St.Jacob‘s Church meanwhile the
lower one is St. Mary‘s Church. There
are 2 parishes in the town. Both
churches are catholic.
7. Toll house - a building on the corner of
the square and on the corner of this slide
There lived a reeve and court sessions were
held there. When there was a big fire, this
building was damaged a lot. Today, we can
find there a bank, a hotel and a pharmacy.
Brewery - It is from the second half of the
17th century. They re-built it later into baroko
style. Nowadays, there‘s a restaurant. The
stork nest used to be there many years ago.
They are about to coming back again.
Memorial in the park - In the past, there
was a cemetery. They carried the remains
into another cemetery. The memorial was
built in 1994. In 2015, they put a new
memorial board here, which commemorates
victims of WW2.
Community centre or Cultural House - It‘s
a big building. Various festivities and
concerts take place there, even some
8. Hotel Kriváň - was built in 1332. It burned
down in the big fire. Later, they repaired and
renovated the whole building and today, there‘s
a hotel with a restaurant.
Love bench - It‘s located near the St. Jacob‘s
Church. It‘s been finished recently, at the end of
August 21. It attracts attention not only of
couples but everyone who passes by.
Observatory in Kysuca - It‘s a regional cultural
institution, you can find it in Suľkov borough. It
organizes a lot of trips, lectures for schools or
public and interlocutions. They play popular
science films. It also participates in a lot of
international activities.
Protected linden tree - This tree is older than
300 years. It‘s tall about 23m and its
circumference is 582cm. They have recently put
some benches near the tree, so people can sit
there and relax.
9. Lookout tower Tábor - is located in the altitude
of 697m above sea level It‘s fine for a walk with
your family, because the road there is not really
difficult. It‘s built from a wooden construction, it‘s
got four floors and underneath there are a few
benches and tables. Right next to it, there‘s a
small fireplace. There‘s a very pretty view on the
whole town from the top of it.
Manor house Radoľa - represents one of the
oldest monuments in Kysuca region. It originated
in the 16th century. t was probably fortified by a
castle wall. There are displayed various findings,
for example: a mammoth tooth, pieces of
working tools, ceramics, etc. We can also see
traditional furniture in the living room, bedroom
and dining room.
Jewish cemetery – is from the 19th century. It
was used for Jewish inhabitants that died. They
also buried people from nearby villages there.
