This document outlines the rules and procedures for a Latin class. It discusses expectations for student behavior, materials, daily procedures like homework collection, and rules during tests. The Rules!!
1.Let your behavior show that you respect yourself and
others at all times.
2.Immerse yourself in the moment and give this class your
full attention and energy.
3.Follow all the regulations and procedures for this class.
4.In order to receive full credit on any original assignment,
turn your work in on time regardless of any absences.
5.Leave here each day better than you were when you came
in the door!
Daily Procedures
1.Please be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings. You
should have all your materials including your textbook,
workbook, a binder which every student must have for the
collection of all notes and handouts, agenda book, paper,
and a pen or pencil. It is also recommended to bring your
own dry erase markers. You should also be wearing your
bulla and a smile!!
2.Get out your homework. Instructions will be posted or
immediately announced so you know if you should pass it in
or grab our green pens in preparation for grading. Either
way, when you pass it in, make sure you have your name,
number, and row/via.
3.Once homework is graded or collected you should
immediately begin work on our inceptio if listed on our
website. Please do not talk or leave your seat without
permission.
4.After we finish and discuss the inceptio or if there is no
inceptio, the designated row should pass back papers from
our class folder. These rows are rotated weekly.
5.During class, you will hear the word “Ecce!” when I want
you to be absolutely quiet and turn your attention to me.

2. 6.Please make sure that you replace all materials in their
proper location. Class will not be dismissed if there is trash
on the floor, books in the wrong place, desks moved out of
order, etc. Please be especially careful with our dictionaries-
we have a limited amount and we cannot afford to lose any
more.
7.The bell is not the signal for you to leave at the end of
class. Remain on task until dismissed by the teacher. Do
not close your book or put away your things until
instructed. When you hear “valete!”, you may reply “vale!”
and leave.
Other Procedures and Regulations
8.During tests, you may have no other materials out without
permission.If you have to leave the room during a test, you
may be asked to turn in your work at that time. Any
evidence of cheating will result in a “0” and an office
referral. Please refer to the foreign language department
policy regarding cheating.
9.Daily homework must be turned in when it is due to
receive full credit. Late work is not accepted for
assignments graded in class if you are there. Alternate
grammar assignments are listed on the website if
applicable. Absent students are expected to check our class
website for assignments. Projects, both individual and
group, that are late will be subject to a loss of 10% per day.
Please make sure that you have worked out technical
problems before the posted deadline.
10.If you are absent when a test or quiz is given you must
make arrangements for making it up on the FIRST day you
return. If your test is not made up within a week, you may
be given an alternate test in a different format.
11.Prior to a field trip or prearranged absence, you must
make arrangements with the teacher for making up all
missed work.
12.If you are absent, tardy, you leave early, you are called to
the office, or if you are out of the room for any reason, you

3. are responsible for finding out what you have missed and
completing the work on time. You are expected to know
what the assignments are, find any downloads and online
resources which are required, and come in with your work
prepared.
13.GUM is NEVER allowed! Do not bring in food items
unless it is an approved part of the lesson for that day!!!
14.Use passing periods wisely. Take care of all personal
needs before you come to class. Do not expect pass
privileges.
15.The use of profanity will not be tolerated and may result
in an office referral.
16.You are expected to be polite and respectful of each other
and the teacher at all times. Any disagreements between
the teacher and student will be dealt with privately.
17.When notes are sent home to parents, they are to be
signed and returned the next day. Please be aware that I
keep these on file until the end of the year and take them to
any parent conferences.
18.Please remember that if you want the courtesy of being
treated as an individual, you must accept the responsibility
of being treated as an individual. Please don’t cite someone
else’s situation if you are being disciplined-I will not discuss
another student’s record with you.
19.Please be aware that your classroom behavior and
participation will affect your grade. Some examples are
having all materials ready when the bell rings, listening
well, volunteering to answer questions, working well with
your partner or group.
20.Each student is expected to cheerfully obey these rules.
Please understand that continued enrollment in this course
constitutes acceptance of these rules!!!!!!
21.In Latin class, you will receive reward stickers for
winning games, etc. These can be traded in for prizes and
privileges and used for our "Trojan Horse" auctions. When
you break a rule, you will have to surrender a sticker. If you

4. become an “habitual offender” your sticker fine will increase
accordingly!
Grading Policy for Latin
In each level of Latin, your grade will usually consist of the
following:
1.Regular and/or mastery tests worth up to 100 points each.
2.Your grade record/portfolio test worth 100 points.
3.An occasional “pop” quiz of varying points.
4.Homework and seatwork assignments and/or projects.
5.Class participation grades worth 100 points.
6.Optional assignments of varying points.
7.Extra credit points (which can raise your grade by no
more than one letter)
8.Nine weeks (midterm) exam OR
9.Semester exam
The actual amount of points each grading period will vary.
Extra credit options are generally made available to the
entire class or to those who have already completed
required work. Letter grades are assigned according to the
SHS grading policy.
Each nine weeks, you will earn a class participation grade.
This is based on regular attendance, classroom behavior,
participation and perceived efforts, and completion of
homework, seatwork, and projects. This will also be your
instructor’s subjective assessment of how hard you have
worked. This score will be posted during the nine weeks and
will be fluid, locking in during the last day of the grading
period. All students start with 83%. We use Class Dojo to
keep track of points which will be added or subtracted.
Please save all of your completed tests and assignments
when they are returned to you. These become part of your
portfolio that will be checked at the end of each nine weeks
during our binder quiz.

Policy Regarding Cheating and Plagiarism
You just might be a cheater if:
1.You tattoo the verb endings on your forearm.
2.You sit in the same seat as the smartest kid in the
class…while she is still there.
3.You have a two way radio set up with your textbook’s
author.
4.Your ‘original essay’ starts with “As we have seen in the
previous chapter.”
5.Your assignment is written in Swahili instead of
Latin…courtesy of
Babelfish.
6.You see your group project for the first time on the day it
is turned in.
7.You have whiplash from copying answers from the
student three seats behind you.
8.All your credit card charges are to “Papers R Us.com”.
9.You have the answers for all three versions of the test in
your left shoe.
10.You have a panic attack when the teacher changes your
seat just before the test.
Seriously though, cheating is not a joking matter and will be
dealt with SEVERELY!
According to Webster’s Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary,
cheating is…”to get something from another by dishonesty
or deception,…using trickery that escapes observation, and
to practice fraud…”.

6. In the Foreign Language Department, cheating may involve,
but is not limited to, the following examples.
During the testing period, you compromise the test results
if:
1.You have unauthorized information on or around your
person (e.g., cheat sheets, answers written on the desks or a
pen, notes or books open, etc.). Do not HAVE anything that
will make you look suspicious!
2.You look at another student’s work. Keep your eyes on
your own paper. Do not DO anything that will make you
look suspicious!
3.You talk, whisper, or communicate in any way with
anyone. Do not SAY anything that will make you look
suspicious!
During all other situations, you comprise your grade if :
1.You copy work from another student or misrepresent
work as your own.
2.You give or show your work to someone else.
3.You relay information about tests or quizzes to other
students.
4.You request information from other students about tests
or quizzes.
5.You use information from a source without citing that
source.
6.You use unauthorized sources for translations including
the Internet, other students, native speakers, etc.
If a grade is compromised, you will receive a “zero” and an
office referral.
Be honest. Always conduct yourself in a way that is above
reproach because you will never regret doing the right
thing!
