Executive Directive 09-06 and Ordinance 293-10 were enacted to improve access to San Francisco city data and enhance transparency. Open data provides benefits like increased government transparency, new applications and tools created by residents, economic and social benefits, and more efficient services. Current efforts include an open data working group, revising data standards and software practices, and collaborating with the Board of Supervisors. Residents can get involved by joining discussions, exploring available data and tools, creating apps, joining the Civic Corps, or following social media for updates.

2. HISTORY OF OPEN DATA IN SF
• Executive Directive 09-06 was enacted to enhance
open government, transparency, and accountability
by improving access to City data.
• To continue and expand access to City data, the
Directive became law in Ordinance 293-10.
