4. MY CODE OF ETHICS
A coach must be conscious of the fact that he or she is a role model and
anything they do can have a direct impact on any athlete in sport and in
life (NFHS).
Coach will portray a respectful attitude towards players, coaches,
officials, parents, and opponents to promote a positive and respectful
atmosphere for athletes (Hefty 2014).
Coach shall build trust within the team by promoting cooperation,
structure, and fairness to create stability among all team members (Hefty
2014).
Coach will teach appropriate gamesmanship and sportsmanship
behaviors to all athletes to ensure that the spirit and culture of the game is
upheld before, during, and after competition (Sabock, 3-4).
Coach will preach the importance of showing character during a
competitive event in any all situations, especially when it comes to winning
and losing (Sabock, 4).
Coach will be well versed in all the rules of the game and be prepared for
events, practice or competition, in order to properly pass on the
knowledge to his or her athletes (NFHS).
Coach will influence players to adopt a positive work ethic that can be
applied not only within sport, but within their daily lives (Hefty 2014).
