Marine Technical Hull Trade Training
During my five years service with the Royal Australian Navy I completed my trade as a Boilermaker
First class Welder (Marine Technical Hull). I was also instructed in operating, maintaining and
repairing marine machinery and all of its auxiliary equipment as well as the hull and all of its fittings.
Training encompassed the theoretical and practical aspects of Boilermaking, welding, smithing,
joining, sheet metal work, low and high pressure pipe work, boat repairs, plastics and fibreglass
repairs.
I was also trained to watch keep, operate and supervise ships propulsion, machinery and ancillary
equipment.
