3. Title
• The title uses a bold sans-serif font which stands out at the
bottom of the poster. It is also white which makes it seem
prominent over a black background.
• The lower case ‘I’ in the title of all capital letters represents
many things. This can represent the small group of teenage
characters being towered over by an adult world. It can also
foreshadow a specific characters position in the movie and
their place in a group.
• The mix of uppercase and lowercase writing also represents
the ‘slang’ language which most teenagers use in this day and
age.
4. Main Image
• The main image used on the film poster portrays many
different themes and foreshadows many storylines. Firstly, the
attention of the audience is immediately drawn to the
character holding the baseball bat. From this audiences can
see that he is the main antagonist in the film. Also a baseball
bat is a weapon which is quite popular and portrays many
themes such as violence, death and blood. This can also
foreshadow storylines which can happen in the film.
• However, other characters are seen as a lot more inferior. For
example, the character sitting on the floor is seen as
powerless, in great contrast to the character with the baseball
bat.
5. Continued..
• The image is edited strongly giving it a dark and gloomy feel.
This can again foreshadow the dark themes and narrative
which run through the film. In contrast, the sky is bright and
lighter compared to the other parts of the image which can
represent freedom and hope which the characters are trying
to achieve. As the darkness is extremely overpowering this can
relate to the narrative as the negative turns will outweigh the
positives.
• The back ground emphasises the genre of the film. It shows an
urban area and a broken area again representing social
realism.
6. Tagline
• The tagline used on the poster ‘Before Adulthood Comes…’
immediately foreshadows a sequel to the film which will
attract the same or similar audiences. The tagline also acts as
a marketing technique as audiences will look out for the new
film and will be expecting it.
• The tagline also states the obvious, portraying all characters
are of an age under 18. This can also help in targeting
audiences of the same age group.
