Views on markets today
• Indian markets snapped the two days winning streak
and closed on lower on Friday on mounting worries
over economic growth and data showing selling by
foreign funds continuously over the past few days hurt
sentiment adversely. The downward movement was
mainly led by selling pressure in consumer durable, oil
& gas, bank and metal stocks while capital goods,
auto, real estate and FMCG stocks witnessed some
buying activities which help the markets to recover
from day low. Telecom stocks extended Thursday's
losses triggered by comments from Telecom Secretary
R. Chandrashekhar that the telecommunications
department has decided that the agreements signed
by some telecom operators for third-generation
mobile-roaming services are illegal. While interest rate
sensitive auto stocks extended recent gains after data
released on Thursday showed food inflation eased to
four-year low, cementing expectations of a steady
easing in overall price pressures. Bharati Shipyard's
closed 1.36% upon news that its lenders plan to
restructure $1.5bn of loans. Monnet Ispat gained 1.5%
after the company's board decided to buy back shares
at a price of up to `500 a share. The company said it
would spend `1bn for the buyback. Suzlon Energy rose
more than 3% after the wind turbine maker got new
orders worth `9.35bn.
• Market breadth was however strong at ~1.31x as
investors bought large cap stocks. FIIs bought equities
worth `0.84bn while domestic institutions sold equities
of `0.78bn.
• Asian stocks are mixed today, as Japanese markets
jumped to catch up with broad gains in the global
equity markets after Friday's holiday while Chinese
shares declined sharply in choppy trades.
• We expect a weak opening for the Indian markets
tracking the cues from the Asian markets today.
Sentiments are weak on account of weak domestic
economic events.
Economic and Corporate Developments
• Reflecting economic slowdown in the world's major
economies, foreign direct investment into India dipped
by over 50% to $1.16bn in October for the second
month in a row.
• Petrol price may be hiked by about a rupee per litre
from next month as the Indian currency has weakened
against the US dollar making imports costlier.

Buzzing Stocks
• Suzlon bagged 166.30MW of cumulative orders in
the third quarter so far in the country.
• Kirloskar Brothers launched Kirloskar mobile pump
controller, at its manufacturing facility at Shirwal
near Pune. This product was launched at the hands
of P G Adsule, director, National Research Centre for
Grapes.
• SAIL to set up five steel processing units in UP.
• Gas Authority of India Limited is planning to set up
an FSRU (Floating storage, regas and unloading)
terminal for regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG)
in the Krishna Godavari Basin followed by a land-
based terminal once the floating version becomes a
success.
• ABB bagged an order worth more than `4,000Cr
from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to deliver
an ultrahigh-voltage direct current (UHVDC)
transmission system. The link will supply hydropower
from the mountainous northeast India to the
populous region of Agra, 1,700 kilometres away.
• Tilaknagar Industries received a favourable order
from the Bombay High Court in a case related to
trademarks 'Mansion House' and 'Savoy Club'.
• Bharti Shipyard's proposal to foray into the
production of defence vessels and ships is believed
to have been rejected by the FIPB, the government
body for FDI clearance.
US markets
U.S. stocks on Friday rallied to their third weekly gain in
four after Congress approved a tax-cut extension and
orders for durable goods in November climbed the most
in four months.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 124.35 points,
or 1%, to 12,294. The S&P 500 index added 11.33
points, or 0.9%, to 1,265.33. The Nasdaq Composite
advanced 19.19 points, or 0.7%, to 2,618.64.
