Hummingbirds are small, brightly colored birds that live in North America and Mexico. They have long beaks adapted for sucking nectar from flowers and eat flower nectar, tree sap, and small insects. Hummingbirds can fly at high speeds, both to escape predators and to reach food sources, and live in trees and flowers to hide from predators like snakes and lizards that threaten their eggs and nests. People are their worst predators as humans destroy habitats and take eggs.
